Welcome to the Illinois Rogue Gallery of Gangsters who masquerade as honest politicians, “friends” of politicians, associates of politicians, union officials and their notorious thugs, underground criminals, and the endless parade of their debtors or creditors. Their mentality of “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” has led to a mafia type organization with corruption to match. Opposition leads to usual/unusual consequences including suspect suicide and deaths. Although their game increased profits for Chicago and state morticians, their gangland stronghold kept the city from thriving. Knowledge about the inner workings and connections in Illinois are the backdrop to the shenanigans we are watching on the Washington, D.C. stage.
Following the path of these people will shine a brighter “green” light on those that now inhabit the White House and those who are occupying the Washington, D.C. administration. Previously, they were all in bed with each other and they continue their backroom deals, back scratching, and hand washing across state lines. Much as they are accustomed to the gangster world, we the people are now their unwitting and unwilling victims.
With friends such as these, who needs enemies? Ooops, I forgot, those opposing or criticizing opposition to anything “they” choose to do are the enemies. Oh come on, we’ve already been called mobsters, accused of being members of the KKK, and right-wing terrorists so what’s another label. Is being an enemy a step-up or step-down from those labels?
Let’s take a look at one costumed politician.
Alexi Giannoulias
Illinois State Treasurer, Running for the Senate (D)
NBC Chicago describes him, “Basically Eddie Haskell to Obama’s Wally Cleaver. State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is a former ‘Bama b-ball buddy, emulator of the president’s mannerisms, and would-be senator seeking the approbation of a White House that has yet to lend its full-throated support to the Greek town scion.
The youngest person ever to be elected State Treasurer, Giannoulias has youthful vigor and charisma on his side, and a track record of modest in-office accomplishments.”
Alexi was the son of Anna and Alexis, both Greek immigrants. Demetris and George are his older brothers. Alexi attended Tulane University Law School and after law school he returned to Chicago and joined Broadway Bank that his family owned. While there between 2002 – 2006, he held the positions of Vice President and senior loan officer.
During the 2006 campaign for Illinois State Treasurer he was endorsed by U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky and Jessee Jackson, Jr. Additionally, Senator Barack Obama gave his endorsement to Alexi. Like Obama, Alexi had little experience for the State Treasurer position that he won. Has he received any accolades for how the state’s monies have been handled?
Convicted felon, Tony Rezko, received real estate development loans from Broadway Bank. Rezko was convicted of fraud and money laundering in 2009. According to Sean Hannity this week, Rezko still has not been incarcerated, and no one knows where he is being housed. Rezko was supposedly “singing” for the Feds, and so his prison date still hasn’t been set. It appears that the Feds have a real hidden asset in the upcoming trial for Rod Blagojevich. Although Alexi was at the bank when Rezko took out the loans, supposedly he didn’t personally approve them.
Michael Giorango, another convicted felon, received real estate development loans from Broadway Bank. Giorango was convicted for prostitution and bookmaking. Alexi claimed he wasn’t on the Loan Committee that approved the loans to Michael. Who was responsible for making all of these bad loans?
According to Wiki, “Giannoulias was endorsed by Planned Parenthood, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), AFSCME, the AFL-CIO, and the Sierra Club. He was also endorsed by U.S. Reps. Jan Schakowsky, Luis Gutierrez, Michael Quigley, Bill Foster and Phil Hare. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, the Assistant Majority Leader and second-highest ranking Democrat in the Senate, has endorsed Giannoulias and serves as the chairman of the Giannoulias Senate campaign.” Do you see any Red Flags from these endorsements?
What is the connection between Tony Rezko, Alexi Giannoulias, and Barack Obama? Are they just basketball chums?

Obama Friend’s Bank Shut Down During U.S. Senate Bid
April 23 (Bloomberg) — U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias, the Democratic nominee seeking the seat once held by President Barack Obama in Illinois, vowed to press on with his campaign after regulators seized the bank his family owns. “My campaign for the United States Senate goes forward, with a renewed determination to turn Illinois’s economy around and to fix what’s broken in Washington, D.C.,” Giannoulias said.
Broadway Bank had been operating since January under terms of a consent order with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. because of commercial real-estate loan losses.
“Unlike the big Wall Street banks, there was no bailout for my father’s bank,” Giannoulias said, fighting back tears at a news conference at a Chicago hotel. “It is an incredibly sad and heartbreaking day for me and for my family.”
The bank, whose profits helped finance and provide credibility to Giannoulias’s successful 2006 state treasurer bid, has shaped a contest for a seat Democrats have unexpectedly found themselves defending and one that will help determine whether Obama’s party keeps its Senate majority.
Republican nominee Mark Kirk, 50, a five-term congressman from Chicago’s northern suburbs, has repeatedly suggested Giannoulias, 34, exercised bad judgment while working at the bank from 2002 through 2006 as a senior loan officer and vice president.
‘Risky Lending Schemes’
“While years of risky lending schemes, hot money investments and loans to organized crime led to today’s failure, it’s a sad day for Broadway Bank employees who may lose their jobs due to Mr. Giannoulias’ reckless business practices,” Kirk’s campaign said in a statement.
Expecting Support
Giannoulias said he expects support from the White House, although stopped short of saying he had commitments for such things as fundraising help. “I can’t tell you what date they are coming and what they’re going to be doing exactly, but they’re supportive,” he said. “They’re going to come and campaign for me and all Democrats.”
Giannoulias, who first met the president through basketball, helped Obama tap Chicago’s Greek-American community for contributions during his Senate and presidential bids.
FDIC closes Broadway Bank, Amcore, two others

“Banking regulators seized Broadway Bank, the family-run lender that helped launch U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias’ political career. Giannoulias worked for his father at Chicago-based Broadway before entering politics, and the bank’s struggles in recent years with real estate loans gone bad have weighed on Giannoulias’ Democratic bid for higher office.
The government said Broadway’s four branches will reopen Saturday as branches of MB Financial Bank.
In other actions by the FDIC, the government took over Rockford-based Amcore Bank N.A., and sold certain of its assets and liabilities to Harris Bank. Citizens Bank & Trust Co. of Chicago, with assets of $77.3 million, was also seized and is being acquired by Republic Bank of Chicago in Oak Brook.”

This way, they can cross reference and trace users as they crawl the Web, locating them at their residence, presumably without having to subpoena ISP records.
Do you think Google’s NOT doing the same in the USA? Obama’s administration already argues that information in the “cloud” isn’t private and needs no warrant from the judicial branch for his peeps to read/see. Google is in bed with the administration; that’s already been demonstrated many times, in many ways. Giannoulias family bank made $20 million in loans to felons

The family bank of Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias loaned a pair of Chicago crime figures about $20 million during a 14-month period when Giannoulias was a senior loan officer, according to a Tribune examination that provides new details about the bank’s relationship with the convicted felons.
Broadway Bank had already lent millions to Michael Giorango when he and a new business partner, Demitri Stavropoulos, came to the bank in mid-2004. Although both men were preparing to serve federal prison terms, the bank embarked on a series of loans to them.
Alexi Giannoulias took a senior position at the bank at about the same time and used it as a launching pad for his political career. But as he campaigns to step up from state treasurer to the U.S. Senate, he has tried to distance himself from the bank’s business with the pair and has been reluctant to detail his role.

Stavropoulos in 2005 began a two-year sentence following a felony conviction for running a multistate bookmaking ring, while Giorango would serve six months intermittent confinement on a felony for promoting a nationwide prostitution scheme as Broadway financed their land deals from downtown Chicago to Florida, California and South Carolina.
In the most complete examination yet of Broadway’s loans to the pair, the Tribune found more than $27 million worth of mortgages to Giorango and his land trusts and companies since 1999. Stavropoulos took part in many of those deals. Broadway officials have cited privacy laws in declining to document the full extent of their business with the men. The new figures exceed reported totals by about $7 million.
Shortly after Broadway began lending money to a Chicago firm the pair formed, Giorango and Stavropoulos used that company to launch their own lending business and make more than 40 short-term loans to borrowers who might not qualify for traditional bank financing, the Tribune found. Such so-called hard-money loans are typically riskier than long-term mortgages offered by banks.
Broadway officials say they were unaware of the pair’s lending operation and believe the bank’s loans were used solely to fund real estate purchases. They acknowledged they did not inspect or audit the company’s business records, though Broadway’s loan provisions allowed the bank to do so.

Complicating things for the president in Illinois is that Giannoulias was battered by primary opponent David Hoffman, who used the Giannoulias family’s Broadway Bank — and its loans to mob figures and a convicted influence peddler — in a series of devastating TV spots. That influence peddler is none other than Obama’s own real estate fairy, Tony Rezko.
The state of the world is one thing. But in the summer, as the Senate campaigns heat up again, the state of Illinois will be about one thing: Corruption. Political corruption is a gigantic, steaming hill in Illinois. Democrats and Republicans are entombed in it, fossilized.
And former Gov. Rod “Dead Meat” Blagojevich is the rooster promising to hop up to the top of it all, puff out his chest and crow. He has promised to put the political establishment on trial, and the Republicans will certainly take advantage of it. His theory: If he goes down, everybody goes down with him.
Dead Meat isn’t the only casualty. A close friend and former top aide, Christopher Kelly, was indicted, and then committed suicide in September.
Even before Dead Meat was elected, he, too, offered feel-good promises. I called him The Unreformer back then, but he conned enough people and got himself elected with the help of the same guys who put Obama over the top.
The slogans then were about how Rod was a reformer, and that he would clean up the state and erase the stains of former Republican Gov. George Ryan, who is now in federal prison on corruption charges of his own.

“Obama’s candidate” Giannoulias needs to explain alleged mob ties, says state house speaker
Alexi Giannoulias was an unknown candidate for state treasurer until US Senator Barack Obama agreed not only to endorse “Mr. G.,” but “St. Barack” went further than that by appearing in a Giannoulias television commercial. Alexi went on to thrash the state party’s endorsed candidate. However, the chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party, Michael Madigan, refuses to back “Obama’s candidate.”

SLPC =Southern Poverty Law Center Published their “Patriot Hit List” that appear to be most right wing groups.
Interestingly, the Oathkeepers are posted for each state, as well as “We the People” organization/foundation and the American Grand Jury.
This is another “non-partisan” group that are really leftists. The Southern Poverty Law Center bills themselves as non-profit also. Would be interesting to see their records to see if they match their retoric. Many groups rely on SPLC for information that appears to be inaccurate, grossly overstated and unquantified.

They’re all prominently featured in a new list of 40 “patriots” and “enablers” that a left-leaning group thinks Americans should be concerned about. In its new report titled, “Meet the Patriots,” the Southern Poverty Law Center states: “In the last year and a half, militias and the larger anti-government ‘patriot’ movement have exploded, accompanied by the rapid expansion of other sectors of the radical right.
This spectacular growth is the result of several factors, including anger over major political, demographic and economic changes in America, along with the popularization of radical ideas and conspiracy theories by ostensibly mainstream politicians and media commentators.”
It defines “patriots” as “people who generally believe that the federal government is an evil entity that is engaged in a secret conspiracy to impose martial law, herd those who resist into concentration camps, and force the United States into a socialistic ‘New World Order.'”
The report calls Fox News host Glenn Beck “the Ringmaster” of the movement.. ..Topping the list is Chuck Baldwin, a Pensacola, Fla.-based pastor and radio talk-show host, who also ran for president in 2008 as the nominee of the Constitution Party.
“The sad truth is, however, our federal government has chosen to exalt the SPLC to the position of being its ‘go to’ source for information regarding ‘potential domestic terrorists’ and similar characterizations. As a result, the information and reports disseminated by SPLC wind up in police reports and bulletins all over the United States. …
“One could even question whether the SPLC is merely a front organization for Big Brother. Therefore, it is highly likely that the report negatively profiling 40 American patriots will find its way into Department of Homeland Security fusion centers and be distributed to police agencies all across the country. So, should the 40 people who find themselves targeted by SPLC expect some kind of government/police attention? Are we really that close to Nazi-style persecution in America? If the SPLC has its way, the answer seems to be a definite yes.”
Some other well-known names on the list include U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga.; Fox News legal analyst and former Judge Andrew Napolitano; tax protester and former IRS special agent Joe Banister; columnist Devvy Kidd; and radio talk-show host Alex Jones.
Just last month, as WND reported, the SPLC launched an attack against the tea-party phenomenon, claiming the movement is “shot through” with radical ideas and tied with “hate groups,” “furious anti-immigrant vigilante groups” and “so-called ‘patriot’ groups.”

Farah v. Morris Dees
Well, I finally made a list. It’s not the Pulitzer Prize I expected.
Instead, it’s the list of the most dangerous “patriots” in America as defined by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the multi-hundred-million-dollar “nonprofit” racket run by the shameless Morris Dees.
Hey, even so, I’m honored.
Who is the SPLC? I think Reason writer Jesse Walker may have said it best last month when he wrote: “The Southern Poverty Law Center … would paint a box of Wheaties as an extremist threat if it thought that would help it raise funds.”
Morris Dees’ stock-in-trade is raising hundreds of millions of dollars through fanning the flames of phantom threats posed almost exclusively by those who love America and its Constitution. He also files lots of lawsuits, sometimes even on behalf of real victims of racism, and pockets most of the money raised through heart-wrenching direct-mail pitches.

Giannoulias also appears to have lied about the bank’s financing of a casino boat marina. And in what may or may not be an ugly coincidence, convicted felon Tony Rezko racked up $450,000 in gambling debts by writing bad checks on his Broadway Bank account. According to Crain’s Chicago Business, “Obama kept his 2004 Senate campaign funds” at Broadway Bank as well.

Giannoulias himself has accepted at least one controversial campaign contribution, from Spiros Naos, an owner of a line of gambling cruise ships, who got ownership of the company after his uncle “was gunned down in an execution-style slaying after selling the gambling fleet to a group that included indicted Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff”, according to the Chicago Daily Herald. After initially defending the contribution as one Greek helping another, Giannoulias eventually returned the money once the media began dogging him about it.
We know what Giannoulias has done for Obama. What about the other way around? Why would a man with banking ties to organized crime (and a man who had generally not contributed to Democrats) become such a big supporter of Barack Obama?
Much in the same way that Obama was groomed for his elections by people in power in Chicago, and much in the same way that Obama supported the corrupt Stroger family even when he could have supported a reform-minded (liberal Democrat) opponent to the Strogers, the Obama-Giannoulias relationship seems one of political payback.
Obama endorsed Giannoulias for State Treasurer when the latter was just 29 years old, but the NY Post reported that “Giannoulias is so tainted by reputed mob links that several top Illinois Dems, including the state’s speaker of the House and party chairman, refused to endorse him even after he won the Democratic nomination with Obama’s help.” Obama remained a big supporter and is credited with having been an important factor in Giannoulias’s victory.
But, as Crain’s asked, “Just why did Sen. Obama last week endorse for Illinois treasurer an unknown 29-year-old whose financial experience is limited to working at a family-owned Chicago bank, and who, as recently as five years ago, was shooting professional hoops as point guard with team Panionios of Athens, Greece?”
Media reports say that Obama was grateful for Giannoulias’s early support of Obama, including the six-figure fund-raising for Obama’s first campaign. But what about be the mutual connection to Tony Rezko, and could there be other connections we don’t yet know about?
Giannoulias has clearly believed he had something to gain. As someone who lived in Chicago for 15 years, I know that politics general and Chicago politics in particular is about who can help people make money or gain power. One way in which Obama could return the favor of political support to Giannoulias would be to support the possibility that Giannoulias could be selected to fill Obama’s US Senate seat if Obama wins the presidency.
The close association of Obama with a man who seems clearly to be involved in some shady deals with convicted criminals is yet another example of questionable judgment at best and typical dirty Chicago politics at worst. I wonder if Giannoulias will turn out to be the next in Obama’s never-ending series of “He’s not the man I knew”.

Two state representatives called on Gov. Pat Quinn Sunday to deploy the Illinois National Guard to safeguard Chicago’s streets.
Chicago Democrats John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford said they want Quinn, Mayor Richard Daley and Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis to allow guardsmen to patrol streets and help quell violence. Weis said he did not support the idea because the military and police operate under different rules. Fritchey and Ford serve two different constituencies, representing the North Side and the West Side respectively.
“Is this a drastic call to action? Of course it is,” Fritchey said. “Is it warranted when we are losing residents to gun violence at such an alarming rate? Without question. We are not talking about rolling tanks down the street or having armed guards on each corner.”
So far this year, 113 people have been killed across Chicago, the same number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined in the same period, Fritchey said
“No help is too much help” Ford said. “This is not just about the murders. It’s about the crime. It’s about people being stabbed, robbed and in the hospital on life support.”

Roll down to see the UPDATED story. It’s interesting that they modified it to conform the dates with his story about when he was born. I still do not believe that it’s possible for a woman to forget the age of her own child, while she was simultaneously babysitting an infant. There’s a big difference between an 18-month old and a 2 1/2 year old. I could kick myself for not copying and saving the original story.

I think I did, but not on this computer. I can see some of the differences in the story line, and modifications.
I researched this family and found land deeds in LA. I certainly didn’t know anything about Alaska as this sentence states.
“Mary Toutonghi now lives in Soldatna Alaska and was 2001 President of the Alaska Speech-Language-Hearing Association.” Nor do I remember any picture of her.
Bringing up a Obama Sr.’s tribe in the story was different too. ” but because her husband had an obligation to his tribe she realized he would have to take another wife that was a full blooded Kenyan².

This is dated only a few months before the updated story about her being Obama’s babysitter. Isn’t it odd that in all of that story, about her Obama signs being vandalized and how she’s a long-time Dem supporter, there’s no mention of her babysitting him?

Nobody was killed? That bad bomb didn’t kill anyone? Why did Billy bring up his friend’s kid if no one died? Perhaps the death didn’t occur during the action but happened during the pre-party so that doesn’t count.

It is Ayers that is doing the suing saying he is being denied his free speech rights…because the university cancelled his appearance. It is probably a lawsuit by the ACLU (I don’t know that, just guessing!).

That is an excellent piece! I have read it a couple of times before, but it always hits home! These folks who want to come to America (the greatest country in the world) can do so if they want to devote time and effort into becoming legal aliens and then citizens eventually. They have this wonderful opportunity because America is the land of opportunity and freedom.
Those who break the law to get here and don’t ever really intend to make this their legal home should not be afforded the benefits of citizenship. Arizona is being overrun with illegals, and not only that, but it has become the corridor from Mexico to the rest of the U.S., with all of the criminal elements of drug running, transporting of illegals to other parts of the country, etc. This is a very fair, well-crafted law, I understand, and it has been designed to withstand court challenges that are expected.
All of this about becoming Nazi Germany is a bunch of baloney. There is language in the law to rule out just pulling people over for I.D. because of profile. There has to be a lawful reason for stopping someone, and if that person is suspected of being here illegally then the immigration authorities have to be notified.
Would AZ lawmakers have been so foolish to bring down nationwide wrath by not being sure that this law could withstand court challenges?
The answer is “No.” Will it be tested? You bet!

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer last week signed a new law into effect that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 60% of voters nationwide favor such a law, while 31% are opposed.
Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans support the law along with 62% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Democratic voters are evenly divided on the measure.
At the same time, however, 58% of all voters are at least somewhat concerned that “efforts to identify and deport illegal immigrants will also end up violating the civil rights of some U.S. citizens.” That figure includes 29% who are Very Concerned about possible civil rights violations…..

It didn’t help that Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon recently shocked the Latino community by appointing a panel to explore whether the Phoenix police should regularly check for immigration status. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has arrested nearly 1,400 undocumented immigrants, with the blessing of County Attorney Andrew Thomas. Arpaio relies on state laws that outlaw human smuggling and federal laws that allow officers to check citizenship or residency status in the course of their duties, for instance a routine traffic stop. “We don’t arrest randomly,” says Lisa Allen, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office. But immigrants fear they may be deported if they have even one traffic violation. And now the employer sanctions law looms.

Most Phoenix City Council members said Monday they will not support a plan by Mayor Phil Gordon to file a lawsuit against the state seeking to block the new law that targets illegal immigration.
Gordon, a Democrat, has called the legislation “unconstitutional,” saying it will lead to racial profiling. He intends to put the proposal to a vote at a council meeting set for 2 p.m. today, said his chief of staff, Debra Stark.
But the council’s five Republicans – Sal DiCiccio, Bill Gates, Claude Mattox, Peggy Neely and Thelda Williams – told The Arizona Republic they won’t back a legal challenge to the law, which they say deals with immigration problems long ignored by Washington.
They also said it is fiscally irresponsible for Arizona’s largest city to launch a taxpayer-funded suit when other entities, including the American Civil Liberties Union and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, are contemplating litigation.
“The last thing we should be doing is spending money on this lawsuit when we have so many pressing needs in this city,” Gates said. “We know there will be other entities bringing lawsuits – ACLU, MALDEF – we know that will happen.”
Williams said the state had to toughen its illegal-immigration policies because of inaction by the federal government.
“I don’t think people in Phoenix, people in Arizona need to be subjected anymore to the crime and drugs pouring across the border,” said Williams, who formerly worked for immigration-hardliner Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Today, Gordon will ask the nine-member council to direct the city attorney to prepare a lawsuit seeking an injunction to prevent the law from taking effect.
For days, the mayor has refused to speak to The Republic’s City Hall reporter, but he told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Monday that he personally would sue the state if he could not corral the five necessary votes.
Gordon added that he’s troubled by recent calls for economic boycotts of Arizona. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will consider a resolution banning the city from doing any business in Arizona-based firms or the state.
His CNN appearance was part of a days-long media blitz to drum up opposition to the law and support for potential litigation. Since Senate Bill 1070 was signed by GOP Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday, Gordon has given interviews to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, ABC’s “Good Morning America Weekend” and CBS News.
The law “unconstitutionally co-opts our police force to enforce immigration laws that are the rightful jurisdiction of the federal government,” Gordon wrote in an opinion piece in the Washington Post.
The law makes it a state crime for a person to be in Arizona illegally and requires police officers to make a reasonable attempt to determine the immigration status of a person if there is suspicion that person is in the country illegally.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Gov. Jan Brewer is dismissing the threat of an economic boycott over the new state immigration law she signed last week.
Appearing Monday at an Arizona Town Hall in Tucson, Brewer said she doesn’t believe the law is “going to have the kind of economic impact that some people think it might.”
U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, a Tucson Democrat, has called for a boycott of convention business for the state and other calls have come for a boycott of Arizona goods, services and tourism because of the nationally controversial immigration law.
The Arizona Daily Star reports that Brewer says outrage over the ability of police to ask people for citizenship documentation will fade. She recalled how another uproar faded when she was secretary of state and rode herd over a requirement that voters show ID at the polls.

Everyone is is now chiming in about the Immigration law in AZ. Obama, (the people shaping laws in AZ are misguided as are the 70% of AZ CITIZENS that support the new law!) Then Obama goes on to use racism to promote the Democratic agenda for the November vote by appealing to specific people, i.e., Latinos and mothers in his radio address.
Eric Holder, Al Sharpton, and Janet Napolitano are the latest ones! Sharpton (its racism..its racial profiling) wants to take “Freedom Marchers” into AZ when the law goes into effect and force an arrest of one of the marchers. Holder wants to challenge the law (he hasn’t finished investigating the Sheriff!). Napolitano wasn’t responsive enough about the immigration problem when she was governor and now wants to weigh in with her “expert” knowledge. Now she is afraid too many will be arrested and the Feds won’t have the resources to handle them.
So AZ will hold on to the detained illegals and the Feds won’t answer the calls! Great answer. I guess they need to hire some more people! My gosh.. will JOBS be created or saved?

WASHINGTON (AP) – Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says Arizona’s new immigration law could siphon federal money and staff needed to go after dangerous immigrants. Napolitano says Immigration and Customs Enforcement fears it will have to use its stretched resources to deal with those arrested under Arizona’s new law. She testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.
President Barack Obama has called the new law “misguided,” and critics say it will lead to racial profiling. Supporters say it is needed to stem illegal immigration.

The illegal mexicans, as well as the legal thanks to Reagan, operate in a similar fashion as acorn in that they are all well-versed in how to scam the system. And the many who don’t marry so as to procure more freebies, free healthcare, free dental care, free education, free university tuition, room and board for all their anchor babies — all on the taxpayer dime, while american citizens have to pay full price. This phrase appears in El Plan Espiritual de Aztlán and is often claimed to be the “slogan” of MEChA, despite little attestation of its use by MEChA members or alleged importance within MEChA. The official motto of MEChA, as seen in its logo, is “La Unión Hace La Fuerza”, meaning “Unity Makes Strength”.[1] MEChA members themselves differ in their interpretations of “La Raza”. While some use the term to strictly refer to only mestizos and Chicanos, others use it to mean all Hispanics and minorities. A likely origin of the phrase is the Cuban communist Revolution, which used a similar slogan: “Por la revolución todo, fuera de la revolución nada!”
A 1998 MEChA youth conference at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) featured a printed program that introduced the school as “Cal Poly State Jewniversity”. The program also referred to New York as “Jew York”. When the Anti-Defamation League objected to the program, the university’s MEChA chapter issued a formal apology. MEChA has also been linked to La Voz de Aztlán (The Voice of Aztlan), a Chicano webzine that regularly publishes articles attacking Jews, Zionism, and Israel.
The National Council of La Raza has distanced itself from MEChA due to controversial allegations made by some of its members. In a public press release, NCLR declared, “NCLR freely acknowledges that some of the organization’s founding documents, e.g., Plan Espiritual de Aztlán, contain inappropriate rhetoric, and NCLR also acknowledges that rhetoric from some MEChA members has been extremist and inflammatory… NCLR has publicly and repeatedly disavowed this rhetoric”.[11]

The national MEChA organization claims to not advocate violence, citing the example set by the late labor activist César Chávez. However, on several occasions, MEChA members and chapters have been involved or implicated in violent or criminal disturbances. In the largest such instance, on May 11, 1993, Chicano students at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) caused damage to the Faculty Center estimated between $35,000 to $500,000 during a riot which ensued following the university administration’s rejection of the creation of a Chicano Studies program.[12][13]
In February 2002, MEChA members were implicated in the theft of an entire press run of a particular issue of the UC Berkeley conservative newspaper California Patriot which was featuring an article that labelled MEChA a “neo-Nazi”-like organization. Police reported that over 3,000 copies (valued at $1,500 – $2,000) were stolen during a break-in at the Patriot office in Eshleman Hall. The issue of the paper included an article, entitled “MEChA: Student Funded Bigotry and Hate,” blames the group for impeding “advances in civil rights toward a colorblind American society” through “anti-American hate” and “a mentality that leads its adherents to believe anyone who is white and male is to blame for any historical injustice.” However, MEChA denied any involvement in the incidents and “condemns harassment,” said Livia Rojas, a leader in the group. The case was ultimately dropped as insufficient evidence was found to implicate any suspects.[14][15]
On May 18, 2006, MEChA members claimed (in writing) to have destroyed the entire press run of the May 18, 2006 issue of the Pasadena City College newspaper. Nearly all 5,000 copies of the Courier were removed from newspaper boxes on the Pasadena, California, campus, torn in half and returned to the paper’s campus office with a signed note claiming responsibility. The letter expressed disappointment for the lack of coverage provided for a MEChA-hosted event on May 12, 2006, which had involved “months of hard work”. It ended stating: “As students of P.C.C., we can not accept this issue of the Campus Courier.”[16]

A passage from MEChA’s national website reads: ‘As Chicanas and Chicanos of Aztlán, we are a nationalist movement of Indigenous Gente that lay claim to the land that is ours by birthright. As a nationalist movement we seek to free our people from the exploitation of an oppressive society that occupies our land. Thus, the principle of nationalism serves to preserve the cultural traditions of La Familia de La Raza and promotes our identity as a Chicana/Chicano Gente.’[7] Such statements have led MEChA to be criticized by a variety of sources, including the National Review[8] and Michelle Malkin[9] which alleges that MEChA is a Hispanic nationalist organization tinged with racist and separatist views. Groups such as American Patrol are even more vitriolic in their criticism, accusing MEChA of outright Aztec supremacism and irredentism. The Times Online has referred to MEChA as “a radical Latino student organisation”[10] in describing the associations of California gubernatorial candidate Cruz Bustamante.
