    ” After six years, many of the people detained during a mass arrest at a 2017 protest [RIOT] in downtown St. Louis received compensation checks on Friday.

    St. Louis agreed to pay 84 people a total of $4.9 million — an average of more than $58,000 per person — after police used a technique known as “kettling” to mass arrest protesters, videographers, onlookers and others following the acquittal of former St. Louis police Officer Jason Stockley in the fatal shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith. The city denied any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

    On a per-person average, the settlement is among the largest class-action agreements in U.S. history. After fees, payment amounts ranged from $28,000 to more than $150,000. Recipients have 30 days to pick up their checks, or the money goes back to the city. …”

    And the taxpayers get the bill. (In both instances.) The photos of the happy recipients are priceless. The wisecracks just write themselves. iirc, this is the riot or set of riots that led to the murder of retired black police officer who was being a good Samaritan, protecting a friend’s business.

    Very sad story but worth reading. This is what our world (in this case Canada) is coming to. And they’re eating their own.           I know! I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve been so busy with family obligations. Can’t believe I haven’t posted since Aug. 3. It sometimes gets overwhelming. We have been coup’d, for sure. I can’t wait to see what TC gets out of LS. He’s the only one covering it and I’m sure it bugs both Barry and Joe. I hope there’s mention of St. Beau’s role in LS’s situation. That was one of the early signs of what’s coming and the corruption level we’d experience. Take care. Good to hear from you. I hope other of our long-time friends weigh in, at least periodically.
