Here’s an interesting story about Barack Hussein Obama II, the likes of which you’ve likely never read before:
In the compelling fictional personal narrative that has helped propel Illinois Senator Barack Hussein Obama II into the Oval Office, one chapter has gone completely untold: Obama spent much of his childhood as a faithful Muslim, singing the Shahada and memorizing the Koran.
Obama was inducted into the Muslim faith when he was adopted by his mother’s second husband, Lolo Soetoro, made a citizen of Indonesia named Barry Soetoro, and registered in Indonesian public school as a Muslim student. He practiced Islam from ages 6 to 10, at least, although he may have remained active in the faith well into adulthood, when he joined the black nationalist Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago about 20 years ago, a church that accepted Muslims, although nominally a Christian church.
Obama spokespersons refuse to confirm the story, inexplicably stating that Obama has “never been a Muslim.”
The revelation adds a new dimension to Obama’s already-nuanced religious history—and could complicate his political future and his reelection prospects at a time when many Americans are taking a second look at the community organizer from Chicago.
If Americans had known for certain that Obama was Muslim as a child, that he held Indonesian as well as British and Kenyan citizenships, and that he belonged to socialist and communist organizations and political parties, they may have refused to vote him into the presidency.
That’s a story you will be hard pressed to find anywhere but here because it’s a parody, although absolutely true. You’ll never see any story like mine in the Obama-complicit, nattering media. Yesterday, Bridgette alerted us to a story at The Blaze that analyzed a story at a “social content” aggregator, which told us that, as a child, Senator Marco Rubio belonged for a time to the Mormon faith. What the self-described reporter, McKay Coppins, wrote was the template for my parody:
In the compelling personal narrative that has helped propel Florida Senator Marco Rubio to national political stardom, one chapter has gone completely untold: Rubio spent his childhood as a faithful Mormon.
Rubio was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his family at around the age of eight, and remained active in the faith for a number of years during his early youth, family members told BuzzFeed.
Rubio spokesman Alex Conant confirmed the story to BuzzFeed, and said Rubio returned to the Catholic church a few years later with his family, receiving his first communion on Christmas day in 1984 at the age of 13.
The revelation adds a new dimension to Rubio’s already-nuanced religious history—and could complicate his political future at a time when many Republicans see him as the odds-on favorite for the 2012 vice presidential nod. Vice presidential candidates are traditionally chosen to provide ethnic and religious balance to a ticket. Mitt Romney’s Mormonism and Rubio’s Catholic faith would already mean the first two members of minority traditions on a Republican ticket in American history. Rubio’s Mormon roots could further complicate that calculation.
Do you see any hesitation there to analyze Rubio’s religion? Any hesitation to criticize this Hispanic man or to question his faith? Any fear of looking anti-Mormon, anti-Christian, anti-Catholic, anti-Latino, anti-person of color?
During the 2008 campaign, we were warned that Obama’s religion was off limits for discussion and that anyone who doubted his “faith” was a racist bigot. Similarly, his attendance for 20 years at the church of “Reverend” Jeremiah Wright was also off limits for discussion.
To try to connect Obama to his long-time friend and mentor revealed a deep-seated hatred of blacks, when in fact, it was “Reverend” Wright himself who more than amply displayed his own racism against whites as well as his apparent hatred of this country and all She stands for.
Obama Truth Squads comprised of prosecutors, sheriffs, and other members of law enforcement, among others (many in the nattering media), were tasked with covering up Obama’s Muslim background, even though Obama himself made an infamous Freudian slip (“my Muslim faith“) while speaking to friendly “reporter” George Stephanopoulis, who quickly “corrected” him. These Truth Squads were sent out to intimidate anyone who even implied that Obama is not a Christian or that he’s not a citizen of the USA. By the way, the truth squads are back in time for this election. In his article, Coppins revealed that
The story of Rubio’s conversion to Mormonism, his enthusiastic immersion in LDS adolescent life, and his eventual departure from the church was recently related to BuzzFeed by two of the Senator’s first cousins, Mo Denis, a Democratic State Senator in Nevada, and his sister Michelle—both of whom were close to his family at the time.
Most in the USA didn’t read the interviews of Obama’s childhood friends, which were reported in the Indonesian media. In those interviews, his friends revealed Obama’s “enthusiastic immersion” in Islam. How he and Lolo would walk hand in hand to the mosque. How Barry studied the Koran and regularly wore Muslim garb. How devout Barry was.
The fact that BuzzFeed was talking to Rubio’s cousins is interesting, in light of revelations by Tucker Carlson of the Daily Caller about Media Matters. In his story, Carlson reports that Media Matters discussed hiring private detectives to investigate the private lives of reporters at FOX News. Furthermore, the Daily Caller reports, in a series of articles, that Media Matters, supposedly a non-partisan, tax-exempt organization, seems to have coordinated its pro-Obama activities with the White House. The entire series is well worth reading. It’s certainly not a stretch to imagine that groups like Media Matters investigate Obama’s opponents as well as reporters who actually do their jobs in a “fair and balanced” way. Why would these reporters at BuzzFeed be talking to Rubio’s cousins? Why do reporters dig through Sarah Palin’s trash? Why do they interview her daughter’s boyfriend’s mother? Why do paid obots try to unethically obtain information about a “birther’s” private bank account? Bridgette’s posts about Media Matters and the Journolist are also well worth re-reading for perspective.
After the story about Rubio’s childhood religion (for 3 years, beginning at age 8) was published at BuzzFeed, it was very quickly picked up by multiple “mainstream” nattering media outlets, among them RealClearPolitics, MSNBC, ABC News, USA Today, The Miami Herald, The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room, among others. How many mainstream media outlets covered the story of Barry’s Muslim faith during his childhood? The USA Today story is particularly interesting in light of this paragraph:
It is the second time that Rubio’s biography has garnered media attention. The Washington Post reported last October on factual errors in the senator’s oft-told account of his parents’ migration from Cuba to the United States in the 1950s.
I don’t recall much criticism in USA Today or The Washington Post about the too-numerous-to-count “factual errors” in Obama’s autobiography. Wait! What? Senator Rubio didn’t think to absolve himself of “factual errors” by including a disclaimer at the front of his biographies, calling them memoirs that refer to composite characters and made-up conversations? Too bad.
Unlike Obama, Rubio’s documentation seems to have been placed under scrutiny by the nattering media, quite unlike how they treat Obama who, to this day, 4 years later, still refuses to show the public his birth certificates, his college transcripts, his records from when he was a senator, his medical records, and a long list of other missing documents. In fact, Obama recently ignored a legal subpoena to produce some of some of this paperwork to a Georgia state court.
Didn’t know about that? That’s because the nattering media ignored that story, too. They don’t bother themselves to even try to locate “naturalization papers and other official records” that could reveal how Obama “embellishes the facts” about his own biography. You gotta ask yourself, “Why?”
The Miami Herald’s headline salivates over
what other surprises may be in his [Rubio’s] past.
They seem to have little curiosity about what “surprises” may lurk in Obama’s past. (Let’s hope Sheriff Arpaio’s press conference on March 1 reveals some of those surprises.) Look at how The Washington Post spins the Rubio story today:
Along with the inconsistencies in his accounts of his parents’ journey from Cuba to America, it could feed into the idea that he shapes his own history for his political convenience. But most successful politicians focus on certain parts of their biographies and tailor their focus for their audiences (including President Obama.)
And Rubio’s hardly the first politician with a complicated religious history — Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback (R) converted to Catholicism but still attends an evangelical church.
So while Rubio’s Mormon past adds a fascinating twist to the story of the Republican rising star, it’s not likely to stop that rise.
Oddly enough, their story links to Janny Scott’s fawning biography of Stanley Ann Dunham, as an example of how Obama “tailors” the “focus” onto certain parts of his biography. What do they know about Obama’s connection to the Janny Scott biography? We know what we suspect, but what do they know?
One must wonder why this sudden interest by WaPo reporter Rachel Weiner to seem even handed. Has the backlash from Catholics, Mormons, Baptists, and Hispanics already begun?
Media matters. Indeed it does, as any Alinsky acolyte will tell you. They learn that at the community organizer’s knee. Thus, the blatant propaganda spewed forth by our nattering media today. They truly ought to be ashamed, considering the sacred trust granted to them by the First Amendment of the Constitution, which they seem to spit upon.
Media matters; but most often, our media natters.
Update 02/29/2012 Obama’s teacher and the Indonesian school principal, Tine Hahiyary, reported that he took “mengaji classes” where only the most devout of Islamic students MEMORIZE the Koran and recite it in Arabic, with perfect accents. Was she lying or was he?
