Are You On Obama’s “Enemies List?”

By Howard Rich for Rasmussen Reports
May 13, 2011

Wherever possible President Barack Obama has sought to dilute or disguise the ideological war his administration has been waging against capitalism over the past twenty-seven months. As a result, his massive bureaucratic bailout became an “economic stimulus.” His takeover of the financial markets was labeled “Wall Street Reform.” His socialized medicine plan became the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” act (which of course would magically shrink, not expand deficits).  And his massive energy tax increase was cleverly billed as a “cap-and-trade” emissions marketplace.

Yet when Obama’s union goons on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) challenged aircraft manufacturer Boeing’s right to locate a new facility in the right-to-work state of South Carolina, all subtlety evaporated.

There, in a black-and-white complaint, is indisputable evidence that the Obama administration is waging war against the American free market on behalf of union thugs and entrenched government bureaucrats. It’s a costly war, too – one that’s being funded by trillions of tax dollars (and trillions more in deficit spending).

Obama’s silence on the NLRB-Boeing issue has been deafening.  Rather than rebuking this unprecedented imposition on a company’s right to move new business where it sees fit – Obama has hidden behind his goon squad like a fashionable gangster unwilling to get his hands dirty.

Earlier this week, he was abruptly – and deservedly – called out for these tactics by U.S. Sen. Rand Paul.

“Mr. President, do you have an enemies list?” Paul asked. “Is this decision based on the fact that South Carolina appears to be a Republican state, has two Republican senators? Is this decision based on the fact that South Carolina is a ‘right to work’ state? Are they on your enemies list?”

Paul didn’t stop there – blasting Obama for his recent threat to require government contractors to disclose donations to groups that participate in political activities.

“The president has said now that he’s going to ask contractors who do business with the government ‘Who have you contributed to?’” he said. “Mr. President, do you have en enemies list? Will you now punish contractors who have given money to Republican candidates? I’m concerned – there are two Republican Senators from Kentucky. Are we on your enemies list? Is Alabama on your enemies list? Is Texas on your enemies list?”

Paul’s invocation of a Nixonian “enemies list” provides a useful framework for examining the conduct of this administration – which is simultaneously trying to muzzle and strong-arm corporate and individual citizens.

Who else is on Obama’s enemies list?

What about shareholders in General Motors – whose assets were wiped out when Obama’s creative bankruptcy maneuvering handed control of the company to the government and the unions?

What about America’s private health care insurers, who in addition to being saddled with costly new government mandates were overtly threatened last year by Obama’s Medicaid czar Kathleen Sebelius?

More broadly, what about individual citizens who beginning in 2013 will be compelled to purchase health care insurance or face stiff fines?

What about American motorists, who face soaring gas prices due to Obama’s moratorium on offshore drilling and his refusal to support expanded domestic energy exploration?

What about the 13 million Americans who remain unemployed despite Washington’s costly efforts at economic “stimulation?”

And what about the American taxpayer – whose per capita share of the national debt now totals more than $123,000?

Perhaps the more useful question would be “who isn’t on Obama’s enemies list?” – other than bureaucrats and union leaders obviously.

In his relentless pursuit of a dependent citizenry, Obama is attempting to impose his will upon both the free market and the “marketplace of ideas.” Not only is he trying to dictate where private companies can expand their operations – but he’s simultaneously attempting to muzzle their ability to protest against such overreaching.

Sen. Paul deserves credit for standing up to both of these threats – and exposing the underlying motivations associated with each of them.

  1. Rep. Poe: It’s Time to Cut Off US Foreign Aid to Pakistan
    14 May 2011 12:18 PM Snips

Rep. Ted Poe tells Newsmax that Pakistan is playing both sides of the war on terrorism and he is calling for the U.S. to halt foreign aid to Pakistan until it divulges its true role in hiding Osama bin Laden.

The Texas Republican also charges that Obama is merely paying lip service to border security and is waging war against red state Texas by denying disaster aid. Rep. Poe was first elected in 2004 and is a member of the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.

Poe was asked if it was appropriate for the president to engage in fund-raising in El Paso, Tex., this week in light of to FEMA’s decision to deny a disaster declaration for the Texas wildfires while doing so for other states battling floods.

“Of course it was an insult to Texas, another example of the administration’s war on Texas,” Poe declares. “There are over 2.2 million acres that have burned in Texas. That’s the size of Delaware and Rhode Island put together.

“The president ignored the obvious. We need some help. FEMA needs to do what they’re supposed to do, helping disaster recovery, and he didn’t mention that. All he did was go to El Paso, politic, make promises to try to get votes, and go on his way as campaigner-in-chief.”

Check out my latest at the American Thinker:

Mainstream Media’s Mea Culpa: Arab Spring or Nuclear Winter? Pamela Geller
The Washington Post wrote Thursday that the “Arab Spring” has taken “an altogether darker and more sinister turn, one in which the prospect of a brighter future no longer seems so readily assured.”

finally recognizing what was happening from the very first in US-allied Muslim countries across the world.

    >Uh, I told you so — from the very first “Allahu akbar” I warned readers of my website AtlasShrugs.com (and anyone who would listen) that Islamic supremacists would seize power and destroy the little democratic reforms that had inched their way into many of these backward, barbaric cultures. It was little noted that these uprisings were stirring in the Muslim countries with the most freedom — such actions were near impossible where the iron fist of Islamic law reigned.

  3. I deleted Lame Cherry from my bookmarks today.
I thought he knew something, maybe he does,
but “I don’t get the Jews with all that Zylcon gas nonsense and death camps”,
    No,
    enough,
You build trust over many years and from a thousand sources,
and I no longer trust whoever he or she is.

  4. dave m – I felt exactly the same when I read that in “Lame Cherry.” In fact , the whole thing reeked of some-one else posting. It reminded me of posts by “ulsternan” at “NewsFlavor.” The real “Ulsterman” ( posting at Triond) gets usurped by an obummer obot who tells lies and insults everybody.

  5. Why Obama is Just Not That Into You
    By Robin of Berkeley
    May 18, 2011 Snips

Obama adopts a superior attitude toward the citizenry, who are treated as if they were his royal subjects. The US is in the unenviable position of having a President who disdains his own people.

Obama’s arrogance has been crystal clear from the start. He sneered at Hillary Clinton during a debate: “You’re likable enough.” Obama then demonstrated the class of a l3-year-old by using his middle finger to gesture about Hillary, menacingly.

But it’s not just our traditional allies that Obama treats reprehensibly. He dislikes most of the American people and our culture, a fact that was apparent early on.

Candidate Obama derided middle America for its bitter clinging to guns or religion. President Obama publicly humiliates the Supreme Court Justices and Rep. Paul Ryan; kicks BP’s a__; chastises automotive company executives; nastily tells Rush Limbaugh that he can go “play with himself”; and snubs the 9/11 families.

Obama’s contempt is so far reaching that it transcends beyond the human realm. Even God is not exempt from Obama’s hubris. Obama mocks the Bible, leaves God out of the Constitution, and covers up crucifixes at the College of Notre Dame.

Even more disturbing about Obama is not what he does, but what he fails to do — most especially, protect this country. Obama allows Radical Islam to grow unfettered from within and without. He embraces countries in the Middle East that are falling into the hands of Islam, leaving Israel to fend for itself. The DOJ refuses to prosecute terrorist organizations, like CAIR. A recent attempted jihad against American Airlines flight 1561 generated no comment from the usually outspoken Obama.

Has there ever been an American President more contemptuous of his own people than Obama? Has any other President been as ungrateful for the honors bestowed on him?

  6. It’s possible.
    Thanks, I will consider it.
i am still struck by the sudden disappearance of Chronwatch, a conservative site that had been robust for a decade or more,
It got infected by malware and then a week later,
attempts to log onto it were greeted by a cheery message from founder Jim Sparkman just saying thnanks, I’m retiring.
    Seemed weird.
Like if you had a popular website and you didn’t want it anymore you could sell it or at least offer to,
    but it’s just gone.

  7. Orlt too unreachablE,
    DATABASE ERROR,
    WHATEVER THAT IS!

  8. What the heck is this?

Evil Google has a Toolbar Notifier to let them know when a brower user is viewing/commenting on a page regarding Barack Hussein Obama?!?!

    “Google Toolbar Notifier BHO“?!?!

    Seriously?!?!

    • So people will be tracked when they look up information on Obama? I wonder how many people know about this. I don’t have a Google toolbar, but will check to see if it has been added to my browser. This is sick, totally sick.

      • Bridgette,
I don’t know for sure what “BHO” stands for. I did a bing search on “Google Toolbar Notifier BHO”, and it appears that it may stand for “Browser Help Object”, but I’d like to know if that abbreviation existed before 2004 (when BHO ran for U.S. Senate) or not.

I don’t trust it. So, I disabled it when I found it. I don’t need any Google Toolbar “helping” me, thank you very much.

  9. As of today, Israel should be added to the Obama Enemy List.

Also read that the regime has disallowed the Boston Globe reporters to be invited to events to report on news in their own city by BHO. They reportedly ran a story about Mitt Romney on their front page that angered BHO, so they are being shunned.

When Obama was running in 2008, he also removed reporters from certain papers from the airplane because they weren’t writing nicey nice articles about him. Then he added magazine writers like Ebony in their place. He also added Huff Po, a blog, to the pool reporters at the White House. Barry needs to be in the headlines or his feelings get hurt.

Barry…hey, the news is no matter what you do..we are going to find out! Your propaganda machine may be powerful, but truth will always win over lies.

  10. America, Israel, Brittian, are at the top of Obama’s hit list. I mean Obama’s enemies list.

  11. Adding the Boston Herald to the list. They didn’t give O enough kudos..so they are being ostracized. Obama did it to FOX or tried to, and now they are going after a smaller fish, The Boston Herald. Who in the media is standing for them? It is almost the identical situation. No pool reporters or reporters from Boston Herald are “allowed” to participate at O events.

I can’t remember which reporter was put into (locked in) a basement room for hours at Joe Biden’s event a few months ago. He was released after the event was over.

Shut Out: White House Punishes Boston Herald for Paper’s Romney Coverage
    May 18, 2011 Snips

If you’re a news source, and the White House doesn‘t like what you’re putting on your front page, watch out.

The Boston Herald has just released e-mails between the outlet and White House spokesman Matt Lehrich, in which Lehrich explains why the administration has decided to deny full access to one of the Herald’s reporters. Why? Lehrich questions if the Herald is “unbiased.” Why exactly? Because he objected to an op-ed by Mitt Romney being placed on the paper’s front page in March, and news of a presidential visit not getting the same treatment.

“My point about the op-ed was not that you ran it but that it was the full front page, which excluded any coverage of the visit of a sitting US President to Boston. I think that raises a fair question about whether the paper is unbiased in its coverage of the President’s visits,” Lehrich wrote.

    • VP Biden’s Office Apologizes for Confining Reporter in Storage Closet During Fundraiser
      March 28, 2011

Scott Powers, a reporter with the Orlando Sentinel, was relegated to the storage space during a fundraiser Wednesday for Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., apparently to prevent him from speaking to people before Vice President Biden showed up.

A “low-level staffer” put Powers in a storage closet and then stood guard outside the door, Powers told the DRUDGE REPORT. “When I’d stick my head out, they’d say, ‘Not yet. We’ll let you know when you can come out.’”

Reporter Scott Powers was the designated “pool reporter” for the vice president’s Wednesday visit to the massive Winter Park, Fla., home of developer and philanthropist Alan Ginsburg.

  12. Obama skirts rule of law to reward pals, punish foes
    May 24

Question: What do the following have in common? Eckert Cold Storage Co…..
Answer: They are all among the 1,372 businesses, state and local governments, labor unions and insurers, covering 3,095,593 individuals or families, that have been granted a waiver from Obamacare by Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.

All of which raises another question: If Obamacare is so great, why do so many people want to get out from under it?
More specifically, why are more than half of those 3,095,593 in plans run by labor unions, which were among Obamacare’s biggest political supporters? Union members are only 12 percent of all employees but have gotten 50.3 percent of Obamacare waivers.

Just in April, Sebelius granted 38 waivers to restaurants, nightclubs, spas and hotels in former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco congressional district. Pelosi’s office said she had nothing to do with it.
On its website HHS pledges that the waiver process will be transparent. But it doesn’t list those whose requests for waivers have been denied.

One basic principle of the rule of law is that laws apply to everybody. If the sign says “No Parking,” you’re not supposed to park there even if you’re a pal of the alderman.

Another principle of the rule of law is that government can’t make up new rules to help its cronies and hurt its adversaries except through due process, such as getting a legislature to pass a new law.

The Obamacare waiver process appears to violate that first rule. Two other recent Obama administration actions appear to violate the second.
One example is the National Labor Relations Board general counsel’s action to prevent Boeing from building a $2 billion assembly plant for the 787 Dreamliner in South Carolina,
which has a right-to-work law barring compulsory union membership. The NLRB says Boeing has to assemble the planes in non-right-to-work Washington state.

The other example is the Internal Revenue Service’s attempt to levy a gift tax on donors to certain 501(c)(4) organizations that just happen to have spent money to elect Republicans.

In a Univision radio interview during the 2010 election cycle, Barack Obama urged Latinos not “to sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re going to punish our enemies and we’re going to reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us.”

Punishing enemies and rewarding friends — politics Chicago style — seems to be the unifying principle that helps explain the Obamacare waivers, the NLRB action against Boeing and the IRS’ gift-tax assault on 501(c)(4) donors. They look like examples of crony capitalism, bailout favoritism and gangster government.

One thing they don’t look like is the rule of law.

  13. KUHNER: Obama’s assault on conservative speech
Michael Savage is no threat to the peace
    May 26, 2011 Snips

The party president is at it again. In Ireland, he belted back some Guinness. In Britain, he savored $1,000 wine and toasted the queen. In Poland, he is sure to feast on pirogi and vodka. Yet President Obama’s European trip is more than a waste of taxpayer dollars on celebrity diplomacy. It is a cultural watershed – a key moment when the leader of the free world stood by and did nothing while the free-speech rights of an American citizen were violated by the very government he was praising. Mr. Obama’s slogan should be: “Give me fine French Burgundy, or give me death!”

An attorney for the British government reaffirmed that the ban on popular talk-radio host Michael Savage will remain in place. Britain’s previous Labor government put the fiery conservative on a national enemies list along with Hamas terrorists, neo-Nazis and Russian skinheads – vicious men who have committed murder or other serious criminal acts.

The ban is more than simply the persecution of an innocent man. It signifies the triumph of a creeping soft totalitarianism. There is an unholy alliance between the hard left and Islamic fascism.

Media Matters, a group funded by socialist billionaire George Soros, spearheaded the drive to get Mr. Savage on the blacklist. Mr. Soros is using his millions to stifle conservative voices. Like all Leninists, he believes in using state power to eradicate opposing points of view. Mr. Soros is a transnational progressive. He believes in one-world government marked by high taxes, lavish social programs, abortion on demand, euthanasia, the legalization of drugs and the appeasement of Islamic terrorism. He shares with Islamists one overriding impulse: the hatred of America. The political gods demand that Mr. Savage be sacrificed on the altar of multiculturalism.

Power trumps decency. Today, it is Mr. Savage. Tomorrow, it may be you.

  14. There are no exaggerations in this article. If anything, I am sure something has been left out. I say this because as fast as we find his infractions, he is committing another with the other hand! This man can only be stopped by impeachment before he makes his move and takes over.

  15. Obama’s Undeclared War on America
    June 9, 2011 Snips

Republican US House Speaker John Boehner, and US Senate Foreign Relations Committee ranking minority member Richard Lugar, are both obsessed with bringing President Obama to account under the War Powers Act for his intervention in Libya.

Libya is typical of Obama’s foreign policy: timid, tardy, aloof, and counterproductive. Accordingly, the outcome from Obama’s Libyan humanitarian adventure has been predictable, needlessly adding over $1 billion to the US federal deficit while emboldening a stalemate benefitting Gaddafi, who continues to inflict civilian casualties with impunity.

Whatever Obama’s disposition of the War Powers Act concerning Libya, it is still trivial stuff compared with Obama’s undeclared War on America. Boehner and Lugar need to stand down from the snipe hunt over Libya and pay attention to Obama’s destruction here at home.

Obama’s undeclared War on America has been as intense, unrelenting, costly, and devastating as any undeclared war since Korea. Obama’s carpet-bombing through taxes, regulations, energy policies, and pledging to do more of the same has paralyzed and bankrupted the nation, plunging it into a despondency not seen since eight decades ago.

Apart from James Buchanan, no president has been so ill-prepared and willfully ignorant as Obama when presented with an unprecedented national crisis……
