Sickening. I have to add that I know parents who raised their kids with this model. Higher achieving kids were deliberately not praised and their accomplishments were downplayed. Nobody talked about them. Nobody praised the kids, especially in front of siblings who didn’t achieve as much. As a result, the high achievers were demoralized and distanced from their parents and the low achievers were not encouraged or motivated to try harder. Instead, being “spoiled,” they truly were spoiled. Achieving nothing in later life. Complete failures, iow. This system works about as well as socialism does. The Mayflower pilgrims provide the best example of the failure of socialism and collectivism there ever was.
