Random Thoughts and News for a Monday Morning

Following are some random thoughts concerning issues in the news:

Whatever became of “our girls“ in Nigeria? Their cause fell off the front pages fast, didn’t it? The girls are still in captivity, and now have been joined by others. Where’s Michelle Obama now? Off to California, on the taxpayers’ dime, to visit Malia, an aspiring filmmaker.

When “mass shooters” who happen to be white strike, the media always report how many guns were involved, the types of guns, how much ammo, what type ammo, and the source of the weapons, as well as whether or not the person had a permit or had legally purchased the weapon(s). Why don’t they do the same for inner-city shootings perpetrated (mostly) by “persons of color”? See here, here, and here for a reports about how at least 16 were killed and 82 were shot in Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend. How’s that strict gun control working out for the people of Chicago?

BSoBS: An IRS Blue Screen of BS

A Blue Screen of Death (or Doom; aka BSoD) or, in the case of the IRS, a Blue Screen of BS (BSoBS).

The IRS and Lois Lerner blame “dated technology” for the computer crash that they unbelievably, even laughably, claim was responsible for the loss of Lerner’s email from 2009 through the middle of 2011, the crucial period of time during which any conspiracy to target Tea Party groups would have been hatched and carried out. Targeting began in 2010. [emphasis added to quotes]

“Frankly, these are the critical years of the targeting of conservative groups that could explain who knew what when, and what, if any, coordination there was between agencies,” said Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) in a statement. “Instead, because of this loss of documents, we are conveniently left to believe that Lois Lerner acted alone.”

Some Extra News (Open Thread)

Do you notice how the stories and the outrages are coming fast and furious?  Well, that’s the plan, isn’t it?  To overwhelm us and wear us all down. In the ensuing confusion, many stories go unnoticed and unremarked upon. We can’t have that! So let’s look at some other stories that have been in the news lately.

Law of the Land? It All Depends. (Open Thread)

Lately, the Democrats and Obama supporters in the media (aka the JournOlist) have settled on a new meme that’s been repeated by Senator Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton, among others.   Sayeth Senate Majority Leader Reid:

Obamacare is the law of the land, and will remain the law of the land as long as Barack Obama is president of the United States and I am Senate Majority Leader.

There’s the meme:

The IRS Is Not Off the Hook

Acting IRS commissioner Danny Werfel, whose surname, quite appropriately, means “whirl” in German (my first thought was that it meant weasel) has engaged in an awful lot of whirling for the Obama administration recently.  As much as Werfel and white–African-American-who-identifies-as-black Barack Obama would like the IRS scandal to disappear, it’s not going anywhere, thanks to our representatives in Congress.

IRSgate: Nobody Knows Anything (Open Thread)

The outrage at the IRS continues.  By now, nearly everyone knows that Tea Party, 9/12, “patriot”, and other conservative groups, including religious groups, were specifically targeted by the IRS, after Obama and his party were “shellacked” (by the Tea Party) in the 2010 election and after the Supreme Court issued the Citizens United decision, affirming that such groups have free speech rights under the U.S. Constitution.
