New Questions about the Tsarnaev Investigation (Open Thread)

Another day, another set of questions about the many discrepancies in this evolving story about the Boston Marathon Islamist terrorist attack.  Here are just a few:

After authorities claimed that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev engaged in a shootout with police from his hiding place in a boat, they now say that no weapons were found.  Dzhokhar was unarmed, even though early news reports claimed he had “several weapons.”

What’s This Flag, Obama?

The Obama campaign is selling a flag that they call “our stripes”.  Many suspect that they understand the subliminal symbolism of this new flag.  (See also here and here.)  These rightfully outraged citizens see too much of a similarity to the publicized images of blood smears on the walls of the consulate/mission in Benghazi, where four of our citizens were murdered in cold blood by a planned terrorist attack that was or wasn’t, depending upon whom you believe, whom you listen to, and what day it is.

When Obama wrote a book and said he was mentored as a youth by Frank (Frank Marshall Davis), an avowed Communist, people said it didn’t matter.

When it was discovered that his grandparents were strong socialists,  sent Obama’s mother to a socialist school and introduced Frank Marshall Davis to young Obama, people said it didn’t matter.

A scholarly paper published January 15, 2008, by Cass R. Sunstein and Adrian Vermeule, both of Harvard Law School, addresses “conspiracy theories” and what governments can do about them.  One might be forgiven for wondering why “governments” should think that they ought to do anything about them. Or perhaps I should say, why someone who now works in OUR government thinks the government should do anything about what free people think.  This is, after all, the United States of America, founded upon the idea of freedom of speech, and by implication, of thoughts and beliefs, no matter how esoteric or wild. However, Sunstein and his co-author write,

Those who subscribe to conspiracy theories may create serious risks, including risks of violence, and the existence of such theories raises significant challenges for policy and law.

This is in response to an article from FactCheck Blog, “Donald, You’re Fired!”, posted on April 9, 2011.  Excerpts from their article are included for ease of rebuttal–an educational effort.

If FactCheck staffers worked for us, we’d have to say:  “FactCheck, You’re fired–for incompetence, blatant obfuscation, and use of Alinsky tactics!”  When it comes to getting facts straight, FactCheck fails miserably, again, and again, and again.

She found very interesting FACTS about the provenance of all versions of the supposed “contemporaneous” birth announcments posted on the Web. An article by John Ellis, “Birther Issue Goes Mainstream” reveals that “journalists” today must include the word birther in their copy to generate internet hits to their articles. They are walking a tightrope in how they use the term because they don’t want to alienate their JournOlistic comrades,

all of whom in New York-Washington media circles are resolute in their belief that “birthers” are insane!

Two days ago, President Barack Hussein Obama II stood in front of the American people and said:

Of course, there is no question that Libya – and the world – will be better off with Gaddafi out of power. I, along with many other world leaders, have embraced that goal, and will actively pursue it through non-military means. But broadening our military mission to include regime change would be a mistake.

The task that I assigned our forces – to protect the Libyan people from immediate danger, and to establish a No Fly Zone – carries with it a UN mandate and international support. It is also what the Libyan opposition asked us to do.  If we tried to overthrow Gaddafi by force, our coalition would splinter. We would likely have to put U.S. troops on the ground, or risk killing many civilians from the air. The dangers faced by our men and women in uniform would be far greater. So would the costs, and our share of the responsibility for what comes next.

Less than 24 hours later, Obama’s UN ambassador, Susan Rice, “left the door open to tactics like arming the rebel fighters.”
