Philosopher Cornel West (second from right) joins members of the clergy as they minister to Ferguson police in front of the Ferguson Police Department on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014.

as they minister to Ferguson police …

Members of the clergy got in the faces of law enforcement officers and offered opportunities for them to do penance. Amazing restraint was demonstrated by these police officers, who were forced to stand there and take this outrageous abuse:

The biggest [demonstration that day] took place outside the Ferguson police station, where about 500 people stood in heavy rain to chant and cheer 100 clergy members who offered themselves for arrest. About a dozen ministers walked toward a police line as a man on a bullhorn said they were offering to hear the confessions of police officers.

Ebola Lola and the Pity Party

Can you take another post about Ebola? Just a few bits of new information and some commentary:

Yes, we can!

Catch Ebola from surfaces, upon which the virus can survive for nearly two months! We can also catch Ebola from sitting next to someone on public transportation, from airborne droplets, and even from toilet seats. We can catch Ebola not only from the seats, but also from simply being in the same restroom with, or after it’s used by, a person with Ebola, given the particulars of how our modern toilets so rigorously flush, sending aerosolized waste droplets flying. Isn’t THAT special?

Yes, that is a stuffed Ebola virus “toy” in the photo above. Isn’t he cute?

Obama! Guard THIS Nation from EBOLA!

Barack Obama refuses to send the National Guard to the U.S. border to protect OUR PEOPLE from illegal alien criminals, drug cartels, Enterovirus D68, drug-resistant TB, severe Coxsackie viral infections, and (worse) deathly EBOLA. Yet NBC News reports that Obama “may” send the National Guard to Liberia: [emphasis added to quotes]

President Barack Obama is expected to issue an executive order Thursday paving the way for the deployment of National Guard forces to Liberia to help contain the Ebola outbreak there, sources told NBC News. The sources said that eight engineers and logistical specialists from the Guard, both active-duty and reservists, would probably be included in the first deployment. They are expected to help build 17 Ebola treatment centers, with 100 beds apiece. The sources said that no decision had been made.

The “Spiral of Silence”: Self-Censorship and Political Correctness

don'tspeak - Copy

Despite that it’s commonly believed that the Internet facilitates free speech, a new study indicates that on social media people tend to not speak out if they believe that their views are unpopular or if they perceive that they may be negatively criticized for expressing their heart-felt opinions. The authors explain that it’s long been known that people self-censor in face-to-face interactions:

A major insight into human behavior from pre-internet era studies of communication is the tendency of people not to speak up about policy issues in publicor among their family, friends, and work colleagueswhen they believe their own point of view is not widely shared. This tendency is called the spiral of silence.”

Some social media creators and supporters have hoped that social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter might produce different enough discussion venues that those with minority views might feel freer to express their opinions, thus broadening public discourse and adding new perspectives to everyday discussion of political issues.

Brave New World of Three-Parent Children

We addressed the topic of children with three biological parents in another post back in April. At that time, a story in the mainstream media reported that researchers had applied to the FDA for permission to begin using a

provocative new fertilization technique that could eventually create babies from the DNA of three people, with the goal of preventing mothers from passing on debilitating genetic diseases to their children. … [emphasis added to quotes]

Brown to Illegals: “You’re All Welcome in California!” USA Is the “Other Mexico,” Says Mexican President

brownandpenanieto - Copy

Recently, Governor Jerry Brown of California (CA) welcomed illegal aliens into his state. But just a few weeks ago, television network Univision released an interesting survey showing that, unlike what Democrats want us to believe, “Latinos” in CA are very much like the rest of America. First what Brown and the president of Mexico reportedly said: [emphasis added to quotes]

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto kicked off a two-day tour of California with a speech to Mexican immigrants in Los Angeles on Monday [8/25/14] in which he pledged to make life better for his countrymen living on both sides of the border.

“This is the other Mexico,” he said of the United States, which is home to an estimated 11 million Mexican immigrants. [Isn’t that the figure for illegal aliens?]

Brown spoke about the interwoven histories of Mexico and California and nodded to the immigrants in the room, saying it didn’t matter whether they had permission to be in the United States.

“You’re all welcome in California,” he said.
