Quite the kerfuffle surrounding Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal” proposal. This link shows her pie-in-the-sky plan, as published by the representative herself, on her very own government website. The link came from an Internet archive because the plan was pulled from the government website not long after it was published. The very same plan, in FAQ form, was transmitted directly to media outlets, including NPR, by the representative’s staff.
Why is it important to point out that the plan was on Ocasio-Cortez’s dot-gov site and sent to media by her people? Because after the plan was read and deservedly criticized (and mocked) for quite a number of its outrageous proposals, Ocasio-Cortez’s people went on television or social media to blame Republicans or the amorphous “right” for allegedly taking her document, “doctoring” it to add controversial and ridiculous components, and then passing a trolled version off as belonging to Ocasio-Cortez. All this to cover for the plan’s writer(s) own naivete and incompetency.
To believe the spin, one would have to believe that an anonymous trolling Republican or right-winger was able to replace the original document with the “doctored” version on her government website and somehow also at the websites of news agencies to which they’d sent the FAQs.
In other words, anonymous Republican or right-wing trolls would have to have hacked Ocasio-Cortez’s publicly funded webpage! That’s federal property. Government resources. Wouldn’t that be a major crime? Wouldn’t that demand an FBI investigation? Isn’t it extremely serious if someone–whether a Republican, a right-winger, or (gasp!) maybe even a Russian–could access and change information on U.S. government websites?
Is this really what Ocasio-Cortez’s supporters expected us to believe?
The ploy to blame Republicans and gaslight the public is of a piece with a similar Democrat plan in which the Democrats blamed “the Russians” (in collusion with Donald Trump) for hacking the DNC server, when to all appearances, it was an inside job all along.
Mind you, each version of the plan–the one transmitted to the media as well as the one published on Ocasio-Cortez’s government website–contained some of the same controversial passages.
Fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes
The Green New Deal sets a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, at the end of this 10-year plan because we aren’t sure that we will be able to fully get rid of, for example, emissions from cows or air travel before then
… the plan is to transition off of nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible [and use what for energy?]
This provision goes farther than just calling for a ban on new fossil fuel infrastructure. Instead, it tackles all greenhouse gas emitting and pollution emitting sources in our economy and global trade. However, the more important driver to phasing out fossil fuel usage in the Green New Deal is the large-scale mobilization that will make new fossil fuel infrastructure or industries untenable. The Green New Deal is a 10-year plan to reorient our entire economy to be pollution and greenhouse gas emissions free
This plan represents projects paid for by the government, mind you, not the private sector, which means, paid for by We the People, whether we want to pay for them or not.
“Economic security” for those “unwilling” to work was a bridge too far even for some college students previously eager to support Ocasio-Cortez’s “progressive” plan to save the environment from an imaginary but allegedly imminent global climate disaster ( aka, the “existential threat”).
The promise of “economic security” for those unwilling to work was presented as an extension of FDR’s “second bill of rights.”
What any of that has to do with the imaginary threat of man-caused climate change (aka global warming) is anyone’s guess; but socialists do whatever they can, use whatever excuse they can find, never letting a good crisis go to waste, in their never-ending battle to reorder society and run everybody else’s lives as they see fit, individual freedom notwithstanding and always, of course, with social justice busybody elites in the driver’s seat. In other words, they know better and so they will rule you.
Resembling “fundamentally transforming” the nation, as was promised by Barack Obama in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez echoes his words with a promise of “large-scale transformation of society” to be achieved via her plan that she claims is designed to deal with the “existential threat” of climate change.
But we know better, don’t we?
(Where, by the way, does the Constitution of the United States of America factor into her plans? Don’t bother her with pesky details. She has dreams to dream.)
We’ve seen this movie before. We’ve heard the refrain too many times from would-be socialist dictators who claim to know what’s best for us and who will use any excuse to impose their plan for a socialist utopia upon us, the free peoples of the United States of America.
Fundamentally transforming the United States of America.
The moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.
Another blank screen.
Another “exotic” whose “appeal comes not from the things [s]he says, but from who is saying them.”
Just like Obama, Ocasio-Cortez is, we are told, a rising star. This plan of “hers” isn’t hers. We’ve read its like before.
This isn’t even legislation; it’s only what it appears to be: A pie-in-the-sky wish list for a socialist who wants to fundamentally transform our nation by taking over the economy and reordering our society.
We’ve seen it before and heard it before and rejected it before.
Zombie-like, socialism rises from the dead, over and over again. Ad nauseum.
