An Eventful Week

This is a very eventful week in the USA. Today, Monday, is President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. Let’s celebrate the Republican president who kept our Union together and who freed the slaves from bondage.

Happy Birthday, President Lincoln!

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras:

Mardi Gras, also called Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday, in English, refers to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras isFrench for “Fat Tuesday”, reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.

As indicated above, the day after tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. But wait! It’s also St. Valentine’s Day:

Each year on February 14th, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “valentine.” The day of romance we call Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia.

Can Catholics hope for a dispensation from fasting so they can enjoy Valentine’s Day?  Seems they’re out of luck, for the most part. Catholic leaders in Birmingham, Chicago, New York, and Detroit have already said no, but the ever-hopeful can always check with their local bishop.

Finally, Friday is Chinese New Year:

Chinese New Year is the most important holiday in China. In 2018, Chinese New Year begins on February 16 and marks the beginning of the Year of the Dog. Tied to the Chinese lunar calendar, the holiday was traditionally a time to honor household and heavenly deities as well as ancestors. It was also a time to bring family together for feasting.

Chinese Catholics will also face a conundrum this year: Feast or fast?

There’s something for everyone this week, and we can also count on the carnival clowns in Washington DC to keep us entertained, as well.

    As detailed on Glenn’s book, ”Control”, long ago we didn’t have this Problem of Nuts taking gun(s) to a school & massacring people. This is
    a relatively new phenomena that popped up — coincidentally — after the invention of television & the Left’s destroying of mores & values.
    Guns didn’t change — they’re still guns and don’t have brains, & since guns don’t go around killing people rather it’s people using guns to kill people, that only leaves the people as the ones who have changed.!!!^^^

    I’ll be the even braver one…
    This isn’t (or shouldn’t be) about gun control, but about child control
    (yes, I know the young man Wasn’t a Child when he did this). If he hadn’t used a gun, he very well would have used a bomb, or a car, or set a fire. The problem is more about the WHY …. than the HOW !!!
    These young men(so far) have been abandoned to an increasingly amoral world. Most of their peers will develop some form of socially acceptable internal code that would prevent them from acting out like schools shooters have. Some of their peers will walk the edge with involvement
    in groups like Antifa, BLM, and OWS. But the Ones that have Mental issues in conjunction with this era’s Moral relativism, become a danger
    to themselves & society. Till society acts, & once again fosters a unified moral code, this will continue, regardless whether we have gun control or not. Obviously, this is a primer on the subject. And more could & will be said. But I’ll leave you with the last line of the comment I have reposted several times on This Subject…

    Without a belief system to Sustain them, ….
    nor a Moral Code to Restrain them,
    the resulting mix bodes ill F O R …..Society as a Whole.

      About that indictment: notice how often they mention summer, 2016, and specifically JULY, August, and SEPT. 2016. This is released now in order to innoculate the DOJ/FBI against the blowback from the Russian dossier caper and the illegal spying on the Trump campaign. It’s another “insurance policy.” It’s to give an excuse to “explain” why they truly believed that these non-“knowing” participants just may have been participants in this terrible “conspiracy” to affect the election. WHY isn’t there a similar indictment of Fusion GPS and its unregistered FOREIGN agent Steele who, btw, has lied to the FBI? How is it okay for Clinton’s campaign to KNOWINGLY conspire with foreigners to affect the election but not okay for others? Now we know, reading carefully, why Steel and Simpson make a point of saying that no Russians were “paid.” That’s to protect themselves from being accused of breaking election finance laws. Similarly, they’re going to argue that Steel WASN’T trying to interfere in the election–he just wanted to make sure that law enforcement knew about the potential crimes and that, when they didn’t seem to him to be taking the dossier seriously, share it with the media out of patriotism (even though he’s a FOREIGNER)! A foreigner who did his stuff ON U.S. soil, apparently. How else did he “brief” all those media companies unless he was here? This is just more of the CYA same BS. Mueller knows that these indictments will go nowhere because the Russians and the companies AREN’T here. Therefore, all the allegations will stay allegations because there will never be any test in court. And therefore the media will accept all these BS allegations as TRUTH, just as they accept the BS that the Russians hacked the DNC. He hurried up this indictment to throw shade on the upcoming OIG report and the activities of Nunes and Grassley. He’s giving the complicit propaganda media a “plausible” reason to spin WHY the FBI/DOJ spied on Trump.

      Gateway Pundit says Moore was a dupe of the “Russian” conspirators who organized an anti-Trump rally in front of Trump Tower. Oh, but they reassure us that THESE Americans were “unwitting” accomplices. Isn’t it odd, too, how the indictment doesn’t even mention those BLM activists who were PAID by the Ruskies to organize and train people in “self-defense?” Remember that? They are downplaying the connection between these Russians and BLM (more “unwitting” dupes). Of course, Trump Jr. and those in the Trump campaign? “Throw the book at them, unwitting or not.”

      Amazing. I’d forgotten those details. So much corruption. And here we see the trend continuing, in that the OIG is turning over the Strzok/Page “missing” texts to DOJ first and not to Congress, who asked for them. Same m.o. with the request to the FISA court for the warrant applications because Congress can’t trust that what they saw when they went to the SCIF is the SAME as what was presented to the court. Yet the court balks at directly giving the applications to Congress, telling them to get them from the DOJ. It’s circular, though. They asked for the copies from the court because they can’t TRUST the DOJ to present them with unedited versions. Already, the Page/Strzok texts imply that “302s” were edited BEFORE they were given to Congress.
