Obama recently announced his newest initiative, My Brother’s Keeper Alliance. This “alliance” follows and compliments his previous similar initiative, My Brother’s Keeper Challenge. [emphasis added to quotes]
Wikipedia tells us that the latter initiative, the “challenge”,
is a public-private partnership of the United States Federal Government to promote intervention by civic leaders in the lives of young men of color to address their unique challenges and to promote racial justice.
The former initiative, the “alliance”, is set up as a not-for-profit:
President Obama on Monday announced the formation of a corporate-backed nonprofit organization to help boys and young men of color, describing it as a group that will outlast his presidency and advance his administration’s goal of achieving greater racial and social justice.
The organization will focus on improving early childhood education, keeping black and Latino boys out of the criminal justice system, and on preparing young men to be more successful when entering the workforce, he said.
Obama plans to devote the rest of his life to the issue of “young men of color,” which is apparently a topic (he says so) that is close to his heart. After all, he wouldn’t want to suffer the “consequences” of “indifference,” not that his threatening-sounding words were intended for himself. They sound more like a warped justification for riot and arson.
In any case, considering these two initiatives, one or both at least partially funded with public money:
What is wrong with this picture?
How can such a program be even remotely constitutional when it singles out for benefits young, black males? Age-ist, racist, sexist.
As Roger Clegg, of the Center for Equal Opportunity, wrote:
It is almost always unconstitutional for the government (and any private program that receives federal money) to discriminate on the basis of race and ethnicity. There is no “compelling” interest to do so here. It may be that a disproportionate number of blacks and Latinos are at-risk, but many are not, and many whites, Asians, and others are. This is just another kind of “profiling.”
Nor will it do to say that there are other programs available for those being excluded here, as one White House official is quoted as saying. This is just another separate-but-equal argument.
So let’s get this straight: Christian bakery owners are not allowed to discriminate against gay couples (who do not belong to a constitutionally or legally protected class), but Obama can create two organizations that overtly discriminate by age, race, and sex and everyone applauds? Well, almost everyone.
Todd Starnes asked whether Obama will help men who are “eggshell white.” Good question:
[Obama] said he wants to expose young men of color to career options that could pay as much as $35 an hour.
“Across the board from the time they’re young all the way to their first job, we want to help more young African-American men and Latino men succeed,” he said.
I applaud the president’s initiative – but what about the young, white man looking for a job?
Where are the special programs designed to help him get a leg up in the world? Where are the mentoring and interning opportunities for white kids from impoverished neighborhoods?
Apparently skin that is white (or pink or beige or olive or yellowish) does not a “person of color” make.
Some “chicks on the right” wondered:
In a nutshell, what about the poor WHITE boys? What about poor chicks like me that are so white, we’re practically see-through? I mean, aren’t pasty-white people Americans, too? Or do they not matter to this President? Because if he had a son….well, screw all the other kids that don’t look like Trayvon.
I’d add this question: What about older men and women of any color who have lost jobs because of changing technology as well as Obama’s very own economic policies? Do they not matter? Do their LIVES NOT MATTER, to borrow and modify a phrase?
Don’t older people, women, and men who are not black or brown also deserve a chance at that $35 an hour job? Isn’t that the American Way?
Let’s put it like this:
Obama has declared war on older people, men who aren’t black or Hispanic, and women of any color.
Do you doubt that this would be how Obama himself might characterize any conservative who used tax dollars to create an organization to specifically favor young white men?
That’s quite a legacy he’s after. He’s a divider, not a uniter.
His initiatives are both unconstitutional as well as un-American.
Why do Democrats hate women? Why do Democrats hate white people? Why do Democrats hate anybody who isn’t black or brown? Why do Democrats hate older people?
See! We can play that game, too.
