Happy April Fools’ Day, everyone! Apparently this is a “holiday” that most of the world happily celebrates.

Alex Boese, curator of the Museum of Hoaxes in San Diego, has a theory:

Boese believes … that April Fools’ Day simply grew out of age-old European spring festivals of renewal, in which pranks and camouflaging one’s identity are common.

Joseph Boskin, Boston University professor emeritus of American humor, shared another theory:

In 1983, Boskin told an Associated Press reporter that the idea came from Roman jesters during the time of Constantine I in the third and fourth centuries A.D.

As the story goes, jesters successfully petitioned the ruler to allow one of their elected members to be king for a day.

So, on April first, Constantine handed over the reins of the Roman Empire for one day to King Kugel, his jester. Kugel decreed that the day forever would be a day of absurdity.

In Italy, the day is “celebrated” by perpetrating the pesce d’Aprile on unsuspecting victims, a tradition that

consists of a youngster surreptitiously attaching – with the help of tape or glue – a paper cutout of a pesciolino (small fish) to the rear shoulders of a school companion. Then everyone jokingly questions: L’hai visto?—Chi?—Il pesce d’Aprile! (or Have you seen?—Who?—the April Fool!) and makes derisive remarks about the victim.

Why not celebrate the holiday in a special way, one that doesn’t involve pranks or jokes?

Make some April fool for dessert tonight! It’s simple:

Crush up some fresh fruit–typically berries–sweeten them, and then layer them in a parfait dish with whipped cream.  (See recipes at this link.)  Make it “skinny” by using Stevia or Splenda, or no sweetener at all.  Substitute non-dairy whipped topping or non-fat, non-dairy, “lite” whipped topping and it’s even “skinnier.” But look!  Why worry?  Science now tells us that saturated fats have little to no bad effect on heart disease, and dairy saturated fats are actually good for your heart, so enjoy whipped cream while you can, before they do another 180 in the latest example of unsettled “settled science.”

Back to the fool recipe:  Kick it up a notch by layering granola and/or nuts with the fruit and cream.  Sliced almonds are wonderful (and good for your heart).  Make it even easier by using frozen fruit.  Top it all with a maraschino cherry, and the family will be fooled into believing that you’re a gourmet cook.

    The AP photos are clearly doctored. How is that the seat back cushion has grown on one side of the vehicle? Even more magical is how the bar and seat back cushion are in front and in back of the same shoulder…..

      btw, it’s good to hear from you. You’re right. It does look fishy. Look at the photo that ends with “01.jpg“. What is that peeking up over the back of the jeep, on the far right side, behind Craig Robinson’s head? To understand what 57th State means, look at where the seat cushion ends in the front row, behind the guide on the far left side. Then compare it to the cushions behind Craig. They seem to go all the way up to the bar. In the case of the one closer to the viewer, we may be seeing the cushion of the seat behind him; but that can’t be true for the last seat. Can it? There should be space between the top of the seat and the bar, through which we should see grass and weeds, unless it was filled in to prevent us from seeing the rest of whatever that is behind the last seat, which seems to be peeking up over the back of the jeep in the photo I talked about above. Look to the left on that same photo and you’ll see grass showing between the seat cushion and the bar next to Mooch and the guy sitting behind her. You can see Malia’s shirt between the bar and the cushion that Sasha’s leaning against. Even though these are AP photos, that still doesn’t mean that the WH doesn’t enforce the “right” to edit them before they’re released to the public, in the name of “national security” or whatever. As for the photo where the woman’s face appears behind Craig Robinson, it may be that somebody missed it OR it may be that the face was photoshopped in. I say that because of what we’ve seen too many times before–something around the person’s neck (a scarf, a lei) that makes it easier to join the head to the body. Based upon the clothing, it seems to be a different person altogether, although s/he is looking the other way, so we can’t really compare faces or hair. The jacket is much darker. btw, there’s a scarf around Mooch’s neck, too, in some photos. As you see, in the photo I just linked, her scarf is up over her head, as if she’s cold or feeling religious. Also in that same photo, note that the cushion behind that unidentified wo/man goes up above the bar, so does that mean that perhaps somebody can move the cushion? Maybe turn it on it’s side to make it taller? Like Papoose suggested, maybe the woman is Secret Service. You’d expect some body guards there, especially in Africa. It seems to me that in other photos, I saw a second jeep behind Mooch’s.

    These experiments exposed people, including those with asthma and heart problems, to dangerously high levels of toxic pollutants, including diesel fumes, reads a EPA inspector general report obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation. The EPA also exposed people with health issues to levels of pollutants up to 50 times greater than the agency says is safe for humans.

    The EPA conducted five experiments in 2010 and 2011 to look at the health effects of particulate matter, or PM, and diesel exhaust on humans. The IG’s report found that the EPA did get consent forms from 81 people in five studies. But the IG also found that “exposure risks were not always consistently represented.”

    “Further, the EPA did not include information on long-term cancer risks in its diesel exhaust studies’ consent forms,” the IG’s report noted. “An EPA manager considered these long-term risks minimal for short-term study exposures” but “human subjects were not informed of this risk in the consent form.” …”

    Mengele, anyone? I swear. They probably don’t care so long as the subjects were old and/or WHITE. Not like these were the Tuskegee tests.

      Miri, they spray our skies incessantly. They’ve never seen a natural blue sky that they don’t come rushing in to muck up. Its appalling.
      They are denying “chemtrails” and claim they’re contrails. Water would evaporate, not create a haze that blocks the sun…condensation does not create a thick, milky, fake sky. it disappears.

Who seriously believes given a huge database that stores EVERYBODY’S email and phone calls, especially those belonging to Obama’s “enemies” and POTENTIAL domestic terrorists, that they DON’T monitor it regularly?       Okaaaaay. So suddenly now progressives idiots are also followers of social Darwinism? Every person of color for himself! We wouldn’t want to insult persons of color; therefore, we MUST stop all government benefits provided by anybody who’s not a person of color. So exempt all white people from taxes so that their offensive white bodies that earned that money don’t insult, demoralize, or disempower persons of color by giving them help.

    The missing airplane with 239 people on it will just be a memory, too. We need to get that off the radar, (no pun intended, in respect to the victims), as soon as possible. pfft, just like the humongous plane. We need something to happen at Fort Hood to keep news out of the news.

Further labeling of our military and veterans as potentially dangerous people. Thus, they must be kept disarmed. Heard a normally non-conspiracy-theorizing radio host this morning ask why the troops on base are disarmed and then he asked, “Are they afraid of them?” The answer is a big honking YES. When they plan to “move forward,” they don’t want to risk certain “folks” siding with the People.

            The story goes on to say there was only one gun, when other stories said two: a .45 and a 9mm. The story says he dropped one, pulled another out of his jacket, and shot himself. The usual conflicting tales.

Now that I have time at computer went to get to put here and took me to UK which left out this part of the story.       He only just arrived at Ft. Hood in February. They “believe” he got in a dispute with another soldier (so that’s why he killed 3 people and wounded 16 others). As usual, they first thought there was a second shooter. But nope. Only one and he killed himself, so cannot be analyzed for motive or training, if you get my drift. (Oh, heard on radio news that he wasn’t “religious”.) Oh, I’m taking down the photo that this story says (I believe) was NOT the right guy. Figures. So where’s a pic of the real guy? I knew when I posted it that it was probably a mistake. I should have listened to my instinct. [Update: I can’t confirm or deny that it’s the right guy, so I left it up. I found another guy yesterday who would have been too young and who has already killed himself, so obviously wouldn’t be the same guy unless … stolen identity? Anyway, this shooter is said to be 34, and be married with at least one kid. I found one guy on intelius who lives in Killeen but is 36. Guess we’ll have to wait for the WH to give the media the pic of whoever they’ve decided it will be.)

      Earlier in the day, Clinton helped announce a new campaign with the U.S. Agency for International Development that aims to harness science and technology to end extreme global poverty by 2030. USAID is undertaking the anti-poverty effort with 32 partners from private industry, colleges and universities, philanthropies and nongovernmental organizations.
