Mass Murder in DC, Where Guns Are Already Banned (Open Thread)

USS_Balaos_(SS-285)_sail_is_painted_pink - Copy

Another “active shooter” incident in Washington DC.  The shooting took place inside a building at the Navy Yard, where a shooter stood at a railing on the fourth floor, picking off people who walked through a cafeteria atrium, four stories below.

TV news stories state that to access this particular building, a person must go through a checkpoint, show identification, and prove authorization to gain entry.

As is usual with these incidents, the stories conflict and facts are hard to come by:  There was one shooter, or multiple shooters.  There were two shooters killed, or only one. There are six dead and dozens wounded, or not.  Initial reports said a bald black man was the shooter.  From one story:

One suspect is dead after a shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, but two others may be on the loose, the D.C. police chief said Monday.

“The big concern for us right now is that we potentially have two other shooters that we have not located at this point,” Washington Police Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters.

Multiple people were killed in the shooting rampage, Lanier said, which sent police in SWAT team gear swarming to the scene Monday morning.

Hours later, Lanier said authorities were still looking for a white man and a black man in military-style clothing who could be connected to the shooting.

“We have no information to believe that either of those folks are military personnel, but we do have information that those individuals are wearing military-style uniforms,” she said.

It’s important to note, before gun-control nuts begin bloviating yet again, that DC has among the most stringent gun-control laws in the entire country. Nevertheless, their many laws did not prevent this cold-blooded murder.  How many lives might have been saved, if even one witness had been armed?

Unlike with Benghazi, Barack Obama has already been briefed multiple times and has already found his way in front of a camera to comment.  Coincidentally or not, recent news stories decried the fact that gun control has been shoved to the back burner and that Obama hasn’t made any traction with his attempts to impose “common sense” gun control on the country, despite the murders at Sandy Hook.

FOX News cites an official who stated, ominously, that this incident is not over.  It was just announced that 12 are confirmed dead.  A spokesperson says that quick action by the police saved lives.  Again, if armed civilians had been present, how many more might have been saved before the cops arrived?

Presently there’s a man hunt for two other suspects–a white man and a black man, both wearing military-like clothing.  The FBI is leading the man hunt.

Pray for the victims and their families.  Pray also that justice is meted out to the perpetrators.

  1. Miri, this is either the father of Aaron Alexis of the brother being a Jr.

Scan down the page, the post is posted Monday, August 14, 2006 just below the We Spoke Too Soon post –

Adams and Alexis in the 20th District

We hadn’t included the 20th Senate District, which abuts the proposed “Atlantic Yards” site, in our “Atlantic Yards” Voter Guide because we felt that both candidates were wafflers and weren’t really sure where they stood.

    We should have known better.

Both candidates–Eric Adams, co-founder of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care and Anthony Alexis, former council legislative director for Ratner-fueled 18th district candidate Tracy Boyland, support the project until we hear otherwise PUBLICLY from them. (There are three others running, but don’t seem to be actively campaigning and we have no idea where they stand on anything.)

This morning Gotham Gazette takes a look at the 20th, a seat vacated by Ratner supporter Carl Andrews who is currently running in the 11th Congressional primary race.

Even though the proposed Atlantic Yards project is not in State Senate District 20, the project is a central issue in this year’s Senate race. The high rises and basketball arena will not be built in the district itself, but they will be a few blocks away.

Anthony Alexis, who served as legislative director for former New York City Councilmember Tracy Boyland, supports the Atlantic Rail Yards project because, he said, it will “support job creation for our community.” But while he supports the plan for high rises and a basketball arena, Alexis is opposed to one of its central aspects: the use of eminent domain. “I don’t support taking people’s homes or property,” Alexis insisted, “There are ways of sitting at the table with the developer and ensuring that the project happens without taking the homes of people.”<

Eric Adams, the co-founder of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care, has not taken a position on the Atlantic Yards plan. He says he wants to look at the issues of environment, affordable housing and labor before reaching a decision.

Adams and Alexis are competing for the seat being vacated by Carl Andrews, who is running for Congress. As of the July filing deadline, Adams raised more than $86,000; Alexis almost $24,000. Two other candidates – Democrat Guillermo Philpotts and Conservative James Gay – are also running, but neither could be reached for comment and they do not seem to be actively campaigning…

Ambiguous words from Alexis and confounding prevarication from Adams.

Let's tackle Alexis first. His support of the project is because of "job creation for our community." Yet by Ratner's own admission, the arena jobs would go first to those who hold them now due to union rules. The orginally announced 10,000 jobs are now down to about 2,300 only a third of which, or about 750 might be new. (Not a glowing number for a $2 billion public investment.) And how many will go to "our community?" Very few. And those who are struggling the most for employment, unfortunately, do not have a lot to hope for in this project if it's built. Yes, it is stated that there will be an average of 1,500 contruction jobs over a ten year build out period, but the building trades have not been kind to "our community" nor had Forest City Ratner fulfilled their bloated construction-jobs-for-locals promises with Metrotech, Atlantic Center or Atlantic Terminal Malls. So Alexis' sole reason for supporting the project is on VERY shaky ground.

Alexis says he supports the project, and then says, "I don't support taking people's homes or property." Mr. Alexis should understand that "Atlantic Yards" cannot be built without taking homes and properties by eminent domain, (or rent-stabilized units for that matter) and it is the threat of eminent domain that has been wielded insidiously by the developer for the past three years. Meaning eminent domain has already been used and abused and the only way for the project to be built is further use and abuse of eminent domain. So while Alexis talks a good game about not supporting eminent domain, he supports the project, and in so doing, tacitly supports eminent domain for its construction.

As for the frontrunning Eric Adams, his story is more disappointing and disturbing. Adams has thought a long time about this project. How do we know? Well Adams emceed and spoke at all of the Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn (DDDB) sponsored rallies since 2004. At each he spoke against the project. (Here he is at a June 2005 anti-"Atlantic Yards" rally and here he is at DDDB's walkathon/rally in November 2005.) Now, a month before the primary he tells the Gotham Gazette that he has not taken a position on the Atlantic Yards plan. He says he wants to look at the issues of environment, affordable housing and labor before reaching a decision. This would make Adams a one-of-a-kind political animal–the only politician or candidate who opposed the project and then supported it. Because, at this late date, such equivocation and fence-jockeying is de facto support.

We'll leave it to Dope on the Slope's sage comment on this blog's first Hakeem Jeffries post (3rd comment down); a comment we wholehearedly endorse and base this blog upon:

The question should always very clearly be stated as "Do you support THIS proposal as it CURRENTLY stands?"

Not "Do you support affordable housing?" or "Do you support FCR?" or "Do you support development of Atlantic Yards?"

Hakeem can't equivocate on this question. There is no "on the other hand." You either support the project described in the DEIS and the process, or you don't.

There are no do-overs folks, and the only possible relief is in the courts if this thing goes through.

The same applies to Adams and Alexis.

Anti-"Atlantic Yards" voters in the 20th, we are sorry, but when it comes to the Ratner plan we guess we have to leave you to choose between the lesser of two weasels.

Tracy Boyland's brother, William Boyland, Jr. –

    William F. Boyland, Jr.
Member of the New York State Assembly
    from the 55th district
    Incumbent
    Assumed office
    2003
Preceded by William F. Boyland, Sr.
    Personal details
    Political party Democratic

William Frank Boyland Jr. represents District 55 in the New York State Assembly, which comprises Ocean Hill, Brownsville, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights and Bushwick.

Chosen to represent this district in a special election held in 2003, he currently serves as a member of several standing committees in the lower legislative body of the New York State Legislature, including the Committee on Aging, the Committee on Cities, the Committee on Economic Development, and the Committee on Job Creation, among others.

Boyland Jr. comes from a long line of Brooklyn politicians. His father, William Boyland Sr., occupied a seat in the New York State Assembly for two decades, while his uncle, Thomas S. Boyland, was a member of the Assembly from 1977 to 1982. His sister, Tracy L. Boyland, is formerly the Chairwoman of the Women's Issues Committee on the New York City Council.

Prior to his election to the Assembly Boyland Jr. served as an intern in the offices of several United States Congressman, including those of fellow Brooklynites Edolphus Towns and retiring Congressman Major Owens.

On March 10, 2011, Boyland was among eight individuals (including another State legislator) who surrendered to face charges in a federal corruption case accusing the lawmakers of taking bribes over the course of a decade in schemes large and small.[1] On November 10, 2011, Boyland was acquitted of federal corruption charges.[2] On November 27 he was arrested on separate federal bribery charges, with prosecutors claiming to have secretly recorded the assemblyman soliciting $250,000 in bribes even while the previous charges were pending trial.[3] The assemblyman's chief of staff, Ry-Ann Hermon, was also arrested on related charges.[4]

On March 18, 2013, Boyland was charged additionally with three counts of mail fraud regarding falsely securing tens of thousands of dollars in travel reimbursements.[5] On May 14, 2013, Boyland pled not guilty to federal mail fraud charges.[6]

And this is Eric Adams, co-founder of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care (from first link)

Eric L. Adams is a Democratic State Senator in the New York Senate. He represents the 20th Senate District, which includes the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Flatbush, Crown Heights, Park Slope, Sunset Park and Prospect Heights.

Prior to his election to the State Senate, Adams served as a police officer in the New York City Police Department for 22 years,[1] during which time he co-founded 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care, an advocacy group for black police officers, and often spoke out against police brutality and racial profiling.[2]

In his continued attempt to enforce his anti-gun views, he is now the Co-Chair of New York's State Legislators Against Illegal Guns.

On March 3, 2013 on the steps of Brooklyn Borough Hall, he announced his candidacy for Brooklyn Borough President in 2013.

    Education
He was raised in Brooklyn, attending Brooklyn Tech, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He has a master's degree in public administration from Marist College.[3]

    Civil Rights
    Stop and Frisk

Senator Eric Adams has been vocal with regard to the current "stop and frisk" policy that has predominantly targeted young Black and Latino men. He has sought to stop the New York City Police Department from gathering data about individuals who have been stopped but not charged.[4] In 2000, the U. S. Commission of Civil Rights concluded the City of New York’s street-stop policy constituted racial profiling[5] Adams supported the calling for a federal investigation into current "stop-and-frisk" practices.[5]
    Stand Your Ground

Senator Adams along with fellow state lawmakers wore hooded sweatshirts in chamber March 12, 2012.[6] The demonstration was performed in solidarity with the family of Trayvon Martin, a Florida teen who was gunned down by a neighborhood watch officer who told police was "acting suspicious".[6]

Just a humm on Kenton Pate/Kathy Vick

This raised a large flag with me. Possible a tennis connection/family connection to Ruth’s boy’s?

    Just say’in 😉

    • Seem rather over-educated for restaurateurs. Are you sure it’s the same Kathy?

      • Krist? Yep. Wife of Oui Suthamtewakul

        • oop’s – Kristi, with an i 😉

        • I meant the same Kathy Vick. Meaning is the tennis player connected to this family?

Anyway, here’s more about Anthony: http://www.gothamgazette.com/searchlight2001/dist45.html

“Anthony Alexis is on the staff of City Councilmember Tracy Boyland. A cofounder and former president of Brooklyn Young Democrats, he did constituent work for Assemblymember Rhoda Jacobs. He is also on the board of the Flatbush YMCA and president of the 26th Street Block Association. …”

I can find no photo of him online, but there must be one somewhere. Also, in that same article, they talk about how his candidacy was supported by Trinidadians. So, can we assume the French-sounding name is because they’re from Trinidad, somewhere back in time?

More about him: http://www.taxexemptworld.com/organization.asp?tn=168809 Possibly. Charity called Caribbean American Museum of Cultural Arts

          http://www.regents.nysed.gov/Summaries/0304summary.htm

          • Not 100% positive she is the same Kathy Vick (the tennis expert), will 80 percent do? wink.

I also thought of the Caribbean connection sounding name Miri. After you mentioning it I found this which would sure lead too some rather large connection’s also.

Trinidad’s Troubling Islamist Yasin Abu Bakr

            6/30/2010

The twin-island Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago would seem to be the last place to raise alarm bells over the threat of radical Islam. Trinidad was briefly catapulted into the spotlight in June 2007 when reports surfaced that one of the suspects linked to an alleged plot to attack New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport was a Trinidadian national and that the suspects reached out to Yasin Abu Bakr, the leader of Jamaat al-Muslimeen (JAM, Association of Muslims), for assistance in executing their plan. JAM is an enigmatic Trinidadian Muslim militant group that is implicated in violence, organized crime, and terrorism. While a JAM link to the alleged JFK plot was later refuted, questions still emerged about Muslim extremism in Trinidad and in the wider Latin American and Caribbean realm (see Terrorism Monitor, June 21, 2007; see Terrorism Monitor, July 30, 2009).

            Snip ~

Abu Bakr’s foray into militant politics provides crucial insight into the nature of radical Islam in Trinidad and the underlying social and political currents in the Caribbean that gave rise to the group in the 1980s. Born as Lenox Phillip, Abu Bakr is an Afro-Trinidadian who converted to Islam while living in Canada in the 1970s. Abu Bakr also served in the Trinidadian military and later as a police officer. His worldview was shaped largely by the pan-African nationalist Black Power discourse popular in North America, the United Kingdom, and English-speaking Caribbean in the 1960s and 1970s. Because of the nature of the Muslim experience in the Americas, Islam always had a wide appeal among those who espoused an identity of Black Power. The first Muslims in the Americas arrived during the slave trade, only to eventually be stripped of their respective Muslim cultures and identities as they adopted the Christianity and customs of their owners. In this regard, many Afro-Trinidadian Muslim converts—and Afro-Muslim converts elsewhere in the Americas—see their conversion to Islam as an assertion of their lost identity. A consideration of Trinidad’s ethnic and sectarian character is also central to understanding JAM’s emergence on the scene. Trinidad is roughly divided between Afro-Trinidadians and Indo-Trinidadians (known locally as East Indians), the descendants of indentured laborers from South Asia, along with a range of other ethnic and racial minorities. Bitter rivalries between Afro-Trinidadians and East Indians played out in Trinidadian politics and society engendered a sense of resentment, particularly among poor Afro-Trinidadians residing in impoverished urban centers in and around Port of Spain. Moreover, Muslim converts in Trinidad represent a small fraction of Trinidad’s larger Muslim community, which is dominated by East Indian Muslims. Relations between JAM and the East Indian Muslim establishment have historically been fraught with tension.

In spite of his early reliance on an Islamist discourse, Abu Bakr has always seen himself as a revolutionary struggling on behalf of impoverished Afro-Trinidadians and other marginalized communities in Trinidad, including Muslims and non-Muslims—the latter constituting the vast majority of Trinidad’s population. In spite of JAM’s radical Islamist pedigree and allegations by his detractors of links to international terrorism and even al-Qaeda, Abu Bakr’s revolutionary anti-imperialist rhetoric is far more emblematic of his true worldview. Abu Bakr’s personal friendships with neighboring Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a self-styled champion of the poor in the Americas, and the perpetual Third World agitator Colonel Muammar al-Qaddafi, a relationship forged during a period when Tripoli actively supported radical revolutionary movements in the Caribbean, are two of myriad examples that showcase the image Abu Bakr seeks to portray among his followers (see Terrorism Monitor, July 30, 3009).

        • Yes, I held my nose a voted for what I considered to be just another elitest. I would never vote for the obamanation. I was so distraught that evening of the election. I could have used that bottle of wine. I guess it was just out of a sense of hope, but I had hopefully tried to buy into the polls that Romney might actually win. I still think he did, but the election was stolen. I’m not sure we would have been alot better off, as the powers that be seem to be controlling things now. At least I would not have doubted that Romney loved his Country. I’m hopeful again that maybe people are finally waking up. I just hope were not to late.

        • We had to vote for the much lesser of evils. Unfortunately, the evils won cheated their way in, again. It’s not that we liked him; we hated the other worse. Whatever you think of Romney, he would be far better than this.

Treasury, bankrupt the nation, remove our borders, give away all of our

jobs, shred the Constitution…and take our Twinkies? ~ (les ismore)

    • Rosemary Woodhouse

Yes. And he’s doing it too. Only God stopped WWIII from occurring with the Syrian situation. It will occur when He decides. All in His time, not the timetable of that pathetic little man in the WH.

    • Right On.

American Presidents should have innate respect and revere an American’s birthright to freedom, liberty, right to privacy and choice.

To fundamentally transform is spy, control, deprive, enslave, force, and re-educate, fracture tradition and national pride. Its to own you and your property and labor and health to benefit the Chosen, Protected Class.

World War Three is in the making. And WTP don’t even have any trustworthy representatives, legislators, judges, pentagon brass, journalists, etc.
Time Magazine did it again. A USA magazine censoring in America by deception what they’re publishing every where else in the World.

      • That’s an interesting one, isn’t it? I saw that the other day. Then the apologists came up with the excuse that TIME often has international versus national covers. I’ll bet. The Putin/Syrian thing was the BIGGEST STORY of the week, and they ditch that front page for something sports oriented.

    • All of the above.

    • The Egyptians are doing the job that OUR TROOPS probably would LOVE to do: Clearing out the Islamists wherever they are found. They’re going in full force, shock and awe. Not fighting with one hand tied behind their backs. Guess they know their enemy a lot better than the “folks” in the current WH do. Or maybe the WH does know who they perceive their enemy is. As Pogo said …

    • We need to bookmark that story for 2016. Here’s another:

FEATURED STORY: Top Muslim Brotherhood Adviser Worked For Bill Clinton

“Disturbing as the El-Haddad family ties are to the Muslim Brotherhood and to the Clinton Foundation, Gehad El-Haddad is not the only individual employed by the Clinton family whose relationship to the Global Muslim Brotherhood should raise concerns. The New York Times reported on Thursday that long-time aid to Hillary Clinton Huma Abedin was working, among other side jobs, as a consultant to the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation while still employed by the US State Department.

Our predecessor publication was the first to report on the ties of Huma Abedin’s family to Saudi Arabian Islamists and which have since become part of the political firestorm that began in 2012 when a group of House representatives sent letters to five federal agencies demanding investigations into alleged infiltration by the Muslim Brotherhood. Many of these ties center on the Journal of the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs (IMM) edited by Human Abedin’s mother Saleha M. Abedin (aka Saleha Mahmood) and which has Brotherhood supporter and Saudi-funded Georgetown professor John Esposito on its advisory board. Huma Abedin was listed by the IMM Journal as an Assistant Editor from 1996 until 2008, a time period during which she was working for Hillary Clinton in various capacities including as a White House intern in 1996.

The IMM itself was founded by Syed Z. Abedin, Huma’s father, and has been described as having had ”the quiet but active support” of Dr. Abdullah Omar Naseef, then General Secretary of the Saudi Muslim World League (MWL), established in 1962 as a means for the propagation of Saudi “Wahabbi” Islam. Muslim Brothers played an important role in its founding and, to date, the League has been strongly associated with the Brotherhood. Saleha Abedin has additional ties to Saudi Islamists and the Global Muslim Brotherhood including:

Serving as an adviser to the college President and founding member of the Dar El-Hekma women’s college in Saudi Arabia. A pre-911 archived list of the college’s ”Establisher’s and Trustees” included prominent Saudi Islamic bankers, a member of the Bin Laden family, and Yaseen Abdullah Kadi (aka Yassin Abdullah Kadi) who on October 12, 2001 was added to the list of designated terrorists by the U.S.Treasury. In February 2010, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke to students at Dar El-Hekma.

Serving as a board member of the International Islamic Council for Dawa and Relief (IICDR), an umbrella group for 86 Islamic organizations, many of which are associated with the global Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas fundraising, or support for Al Qaeda. The IICDR was banned by Israel in July 2008 as one of a group of organizations belonging to the Union of Good, a coalition of charities headed by Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi that help to raise funds for Hamas.

Serving as a representative of the Muslim World League (MWL). …”

Hmmm. Does she “serve” with Malik? Apparently the group to which he belongs is under the umbrella of Abedin’s group: http://www.globalmbwatch.com/2013/09/03/featured-story-truth-obamas-brother-muslim-brotherhood/ So yes, they serve together.

Ms. Abedin began working for then-First Lady Hillary Clinton while simultaneously (a) working at an Islamist journal with top al Qaeda financier Abdullah Omar Naseef (the funding device, a “charity” called the Rabita Trust, which Naseef ran with al Qaeda founder Wael Jalaidan, is a designated terrorist organization under U.S. law); and (b) serving on the executive board of the Muslim Students Association’s George Washington University chapter. (The Muslim Students Association is the first building block of the Brotherhood’s American infrastructure, and the late, unlamented al Qaeda operative Anwar al-Awlaki – an MSA alum, like Morsi, Jalaidan and Ms. Abedin – was the “chaplain” at the GWU chapter at the same time he was providing, er, spiritual advice to some of the eventual 9/11 suicide-hijackers). …”

And she was almost first lady of NYC. How ironic would THAT have been?

  10. apologies if you already saw this:

The Navy Yard gunman self-styled “Mohammed Salem”
    DEBKAfile September 19, 2013, 5:52 PM (GMT+02:00)

NBC News quoting law enforcement officials revealed Thursday that Aaron Alexis, who murdered 12 people in the Washington Navy Yard this week, created a webpage in the name of “Mohammed Salem.” The officials said “he never did anything with it” and they found nothing else that “might indicate any interest in violent jihad or even Islam.” So how would they describe the deadly attack on the Navy facility – if not “violent jihad?”

The reason most Blacks cannot comprehend the actual facts about how one acquires wealth (hard work, intelligent and wise decisions, etc) is because the average Black IQ is 15 points below other races. With 100 being the norm, 15 points down is 85. People with IQs that low are not capable of making decisions on their own & believe what others tell them. Now you know why. ~ Enough said.

    • I’m glad Cashill brought up Dorner. Remember him? I was thinking about him the other day, in the context of how often you hear black people (and “comedians”) pointing out (FALSELY, as we see) that mass murder sprees (or serial killings) are typical of whites and not blacks. Au contraire! But they never let reality get in the way of a good meme (or myth). Just ask Oprah.

Let’s remember Christopher Dorner and also John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo as well as Colin Ferguson. Those are the ones that come to mind. I know there are others, but oddly enough (or not) online lists of mass killers often seem to omit these guys. I wonder why. Ok. I found a slide show that includes some others: http://www.theroot.com/multimedia/rare-gunmen-black-mass-shooters

Still, I know there are others.

      • From Cashill’s story: “Although the most visible point of comparison is race and gender — black and male — both [Dorner and Alexis] were born in New York City within a month of each other in the spring of 1979, graduated high school, attended college, moved more or less comfortably in the larger integrated world, and joined the Navy Reserve.”:

Now THAT’S a coinkidink for you! Or is it?

        • Having seen another black get away with it, BHO Jr. tried it!
“The real fraud, of course, was Haley, who plagiarized large sections of the book and made up what he didn’t steal. Neither a punishing lawsuit for copyright infringement nor the unraveling of Haley’s fake genealogy dimmed his star. The book and video remained a staple in history classes across America,” wrote Cashill.
