It’s Not “Fair” to Mock Obama at the MO State Fair (Open Thread)

Progressives at the Daily Kos and “Show Me Progress” and elsewhere (like the Obama-worshipping, complicit mainstream media) are outraged at a rodeo clown who wore a Barack Obama mask during a performance at the Missouri State Fair.

Despite the allegations of an alleged eye witness, the video above does NOT appear to illustrate that the “crowd went wild” and then “crazy.”   Nor does it appear to me that the announcer was “whipping the audience into a (KKK-like) lather.” He was doing what rodeo announcers typically do, but perhaps these progressives are suffering from a lack of cultural competency.

The anonymous author at Daily Kos just wants “heads to roll” over this incident. (How non-violent!  Sounds like a threat to me.  Pot calling the kettle. How ironic.) It becomes apparent that “Show Me Progress” is behind the capitalizing on this satirical and humorous event for political purposes. (Note that the article is tagged “racism”.)

This story contains two separate videos. Neither seems to show the crowd reacting much at all about references to Obama or this Obama caricature, except when the announcer cracks a joke about Obama acting like a clown, then we hear two or three people, close to the mic, laughing.  However, we easily hear the crowd loudly cheering the rodeo riders earlier on, so it wasn’t a matter of poor audio.  There was relatively little crowd reaction to the Obama satire.

The announcer’s quip WAS funny, but the man apparently must surrender his Constitutional right to free speech when he reports for work. If so, then the same standard ought to apply to the likes of Rachel Maddow.

It’s amusing how the writer at Show Me Progress avers that we have First Amendment rights (thank you very much) but that not all people think alike and that’s something that the performers at the MO State Fair ought to recognize.  Gee, I feel the same way–OFFENDED–when Beyonce, Oprah, the Dixie Chicks, most television “news reporters” and most print media, among others, fawn over Obama and act AS IF the rest of us should, too.  Otherwise, we’re RACIST!!!!  (And “stoopid”.)

btw, isn’t Obama the president of us all?  Therefore, it’s equal opportunity time for mocking him.  President Bush and President Reagan were often mocked, in public venues, and I don’t recall these same progressives complaining that it was “disrespectful”, much less racist or threatening or taunting.

What makes Obama different from any other president of the USA, all of which, from the beginning of our Republic, were MOCKED and satirized?

Senator Claire McCaskill did not miss a beat:

The State Fair is funded by taxpayer dollars, and is supposed to be a place where we can all bring our families and celebrate the state that we love,” she said. “But the young Missourians who witnessed this stunt learned exactly the wrong lesson about political discourse, that somehow it’s ever acceptable to, in a public event, disrespect, taunt, and joke about harming the President of our great nation.

What an amazing double standard! And now they’re stretching it to pretend that the act was a “joke” about harming Obama.  These people really have no common sense and no sense of humor.  They’re clueless. For a woman who CLAIMS to be from the MO sticks, she’s sure out of touch with rural MO.  I’m reminded of similar stereotyping of white rural Americans by an infamous progressive–Obama himself, who said,

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. …

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

CNN took the rodeo story a step further and claimed that not only was the depiction racist but the clown also “stuck a broom up his backside.”  Let’s guess that the rodeo clown probably rode the broom like an imaginary horse, as anybody who was ever a child can attest is probable.

I see nothing of the sort in the videos, but that doesn’t stop them from creating the “narrative” that they want.  As is typical when progressives feign outrage and create a “narrrative”, the video evidence, if any, is highly edited.   A TV newscaster in St. Louis admitted that the video doesn’t show anyone playing with the lips on the mask, or any other of the most incendiary allegations.  If the young man videotaped the entire act, then why not show the entire video?

But let’s get back to McCaskill’s treatise that it’s NEVER

acceptable to, in a public event, disrespect, taunt, and joke about harming the President of our great nation.

When a likeness of President George W. Bush’s head was placed on a pike in the TV program “Game of Thrones”, did the progressives (or Claire McCaskill) gnash their teeth and wail?

When President George W. Bush was portrayed as the (demented) Joker on t-shirts or as a circus clown, did progressives gnash their teeth and wail?

When President George W. Bush’s face was put on toilet paper, did progressives gnash their teeth and wail?

When John Mellencamp wrote and sang a song (probably in many publicly-funded venues) about President George W. Bush as a “rodeo clown” with “bloody red eyes,” did progressives gnash their teeth and wail?

When Hollywood produced a movie about President George W. Bush’s death, did progressives (and especially Claire McCaskill) gnash their teeth and wail?

When masks depicting President George W. Bush as an ape or subhuman (“for ages 8 and up”) were sold, did progressives gnash their teeth and wail?

When protesters at the White House depicted President George W. Bush as Satan, did progressives gnash their teeth and wail?

When masks depicting the late President Ronald Reagan as a zombie or Frankenstein’s monster were sold, did progressives gnash their teeth and wail?

We know the answers and I’ve made my point.

Progressives have their panties in a wad, implying that this funny, satirical rodeo clown act was “racist”.

Then is it similarly racist for Amazon (and MANY other retailers) to SELL that, or any other, Obama mask?  Or is it only racist if the masks are bought and worn by white men?  (Yet, how can that be racist when Obama is as white as he is black?)

Who knows what race the wearer of the mask is, anyway? Are these progressives racially profiling the audience at the rodeo?  Because most of them are white, are they being racially profiled by out-of-touch, big-city progressives who don’t understand rural or “cowboy” culture?  MUST they be racist if they simply laugh at a funny joke about Obama acting like a clown (which he is)?

How racist is it for these progressives to profile an audience of rural white people and assume that, because they laughed at a joke about a joke of a president, then they must be racist?

Does President Putin of Russia feel that it’s “disrespectful” to taunt or joke about him?

[Putin has] “got that kind of slouch, looking like the bored kid in the back of the classroom,” the president said during a 53-minute East Room press conference.

How public was THAT venue?  The East Room of the White House, and broadcast worldwide.

The mask appears to be an ordinary mask. Unlike Bush, Obama was not demonized via the likeness on that mask.  It’s a simple caricature. What other famous and popular characters have been portrayed by rodeo clowns, who, as part of their raison d’être, typically invite the bull to come after them?

A rodeo clown, also known as a bullfighter (US/Canada) or rodeo protection athlete, is a rodeo performer who works in bull riding competitions. Originally, the rodeo clown was a single job combining “bullfighting” – the protection of riders thrown from the bull, as well as being an individual who provided comic relief. Today in the USA, the job is split into two separate ones, hiring bullfighters who protect the riders from the bull, and entertainers, a barrelman and a clown, who provides comic humor. … Typically, the clown carries a microphone and heckles the rodeo announcer, the crowd and anyone else he recognizes. During the bull riding event, the clown supports the bullfighters, including taunting the bulls by calling them names and waving props at them, usually from within the safety of the barrel.Rodeo clowns may also tell jokes and use topical humor

Well, as I said above, they lack cultural competence and they don’t “get” the jokes and they don’t understand the milieu of rodeos or rural state fairs.

And then there’s the double standard. From this day forward, is this the new standard?

Any performance that takes place on any public property or within any venue that receives ANY public money must refrain from mocking, taunting, or joking about ANY politician or office holder?

That will mean that fewer and fewer progressive “comedians” and musicians will be playing at public auditoriums or in public spaces (like the National Mall) or on NPR, because they simply cannot refrain from using Alinsky ridicule against conservatives.

Because most of the media are progressives, progressive politicians are apparently off limits to satire and mockery.  Not so with conservatives, however. (See: Sarah Palin.  Violent?  Threat? I’d say.  Read this story for further evidence of the double standard.)

Obama is supposed to be the first “post-racial” president.  We’re supposed to celebrate that the first white black president is in office.  And yet, apparently solely on account of the color of his skin, we’re supposed to give up our Constitutional right to engage in political discourse and we MUST refrain from criticizing or mocking him.

That’s hardly “fair”, is it?

      Jack Cashill:

“How a Missouri Rodeo Became a Phony Scandal”

“If an eccentric, liberal, nudist musician had not attended a rodeo at the Missouri State Fair a week ago Saturday, the world would be a slightly happier place. The State Fair would not have banned rodeo clown Tuffy Gessling for life. The NAACP would not have asked the Secret Service to investigate Tuffy for a “hate crime.” His clown colleagues would not have been dispatched to sensitivity training. And race tension nationwide would not have ratcheted up another notch.

At this point, the Republican front line did what it almost always does in the face of a Democratic media offensive. It collapsed. The right’s paid professionals — elected officials and media nabobs both — ran for cover. Missouri Lieutenant Governor Pete Kinder, a Republican, was soon imploring Nixon “to hold the people responsible for the other night accountable.”

This happens often. In the face of last year’s Democrat-led Trayvon Martin media offensive, the New York-based National Review took top honors for capitulation. Editor Rich Lowry headlined his piece, “Shocker! Sharpton is right for once,” and NR contributor Robert VerBruggen insisted that “[s]upporters of pro-self-defense policies should roundly condemn Zimmerman’s actions.” Newt Gingrich excepted, prominent Republicans joined the retreat.

… Amidst the ruins of the Obama presidency, the demand for distraction is a constant. When the president falls hard off his high horse, as he often does, they need someone to freeze the opposition and excite the low-information masses. How fitting it was that this time they picked a real rodeo clown.”

      • Brilliant, as EVER. I’m sure the clown was NOT a plant, but equally sure that the outraged rodeo-attender WAS a plant. Probably someone mentioned the act beforehand, and the “eccentric, liberal, nudist musician” staged his outrage, along with that rodeo visit by his multicultural troupe of actors. As Jack Cashill says, the Republicans CAVED, as they usually do, which IS EXACTLY WHY THE DEMONCRATS PULL THESE STUNTS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

  2. Actually, it seems only FAIR that since Obama himself mocked rural Midwesterners, they should feel inclined to return the favor. HUH?

What is he? A KING, immune from mockery? ABOVE them? NOT their EQUAL but their better? I think not. He, and other progressives, need a lesson in EQUALITY. NO AMERICAN is better than any other American. End of story.

Now it hits the big Internet news and look how the informant is that one Democrat operative. Note how he mischaracterizes and adds to his narrative. Now there was a “sense of fear” because of the reaction of the crowd. WATCH THE VIDEO and judge for yourself. They’re once again demonizing the regular folks (in “red” states). What’s new?

I listened to the audio and heard NOTHING like what he says the announcer said. I heard the announcer say that President Obama is here to help. That is, to protect the riders from the bulls, as rodeo clowns do.

The informant/operative says Obama’s name was mentioned 100 times. Listen to the audio for yourself. All rodeo clowns are at risk of being run down by the bull. That’s WHY THEY’RE there, to draw the bulls away from fallen riders.

The narrative gets more elaborate with each telling. THAT’S TELLING, ISN’T IT?

    • btw, the comments are almost universally AGAINST the fool who calls this racist. The people point out how Nixon and Bush were reviled and mocked. They remind us that the POtuS is OUR SERVANT AND WORKS FOR US AND IS NOT OUR KING. The media, as always, are so easily led around like a bull with a ring in his nose by the DEMONCRAT OPERATIVES. All this is is the usual Kabuki theater that the DemoncRATS have turned into an art. LIES, all LIES. Watch the video and listen to the audio. The crowd is NOT whipped into any fearful frenzy. LIARS.

      • Glenn Beck this morning vowed to spend all of tomorrow’s show mocking the president.

        • That would be great. Gateway Pundit has a new story up in which he reprises the Game of Thrones diss of GWB but also points out that a popular TV show had thugs in Obama masks without, apparently, any accusations of racism:

        • Beck enjoys mocking people — like US.

          >>> From January 4, 2010

          Drew Zahn:

“On the air today, popular radio host Glenn Beck mocked “birthers” and claimed there is a concerted campaign to get those questioning Barack Obama’s constitutional eligibility onto the airwaves – a strategy Beck said would actually benefit Obama.

The ongoing dialogue then spun off into ridicule as Beck caricatured those who question the sitting president’s eligibility with straw-man arguments reminiscent of jibes made by Obama’s apologists in other news outlets.”

“With overwhelming evidence, Glenn Beck today (5/16/13) stated that he believes Obama’s birth certificate is authentic. Since we are pretty sure that Mr. Beck has an IQ above 85 there only can be a sinister motive for him to make this absurd statement today…Threatened? Cozying up to left media or cable companies to carry his channel? Friends in high places that are complicit and leaning on Beck try to put the Birther movement into a conspiracy box? I don’t know, but I do know that Beck is too smart to really believe what he said today…My reaction? Stop funding Beck by canceling my Blaze subscription…. – Tony.”

Listen – beginning at 9:40 mark.

      • Air Force Brat!

Apparently it’s OK for them to use posters of Nixon as dartboards; make (and loudly cheer) movies depicting the assassination of President Bush; and photoshop President Bush’s head onto chimpanzee’s body.

The fornicating hypocrites. I’m just about tired of those people. I’d better stop right now; I’m about to start channeling Rahm Emanuel. 😉

  4. Dana Loesch’s take on this, especially the new standard:

” … The acceptance of taxpayer dollars equals the forfeiture of free speech. Democrats should be careful with that rule, considering their policies.

[DemoncRAT] Missouri Governor Jay Nixon called it “offensive.” He perhaps should have appointed a different Fair board and Director of Agriculture, who works with the Fair board. If Democrats are angry, they should look inward. Fun fact: seven of the eight board members were appointed after Nixon took office.

Missouri’s Republican Lt. Governor Peter Kinder demanded that someone be held accountable. … Democrat Jay LeFaver claimed it was a “call for violence” … [LEAVE IT TO DANA TO ANSWER MY QUESTION!]

It isn’t the first time a president was represented at the rodeo:

T.J. Hawkins rolled out the big inner tube, and the bull lowered his head, shot forward and launched into the tube, sending it bounding down the center of the arena. The crowd cheered. Then the bull saw the George [H. W.] Bush dummy.

He tore into it, sending the rubber mask flying halfway across the sand as he turned toward the fence, sending cowboys scrambling up the fence rails, hooking one with his horn and tossing him off the fence.

Was this also racist and “like a Klan rally?” Was this considered a “call for violence?” Did the Secret Service investigate? I didn’t object and still don’t to this, as free speech is free speech and isn’t meant to protect only that with which I agree. …”

So at another rodeo, the first President Bush was made into a DUMMY and mocked, as the bull ran into the effigy of him! Even the BROOMSTICK was in evidence, just as with Obama, so it almost seems like the very same performance. Yet, when this occurred at the Cowtown Arena (I think) we heard NOTHING from the progressives or Claire McCaskill, did we? I actually see NOTHING in the story that criticizes the dummy of Bush being attacked by the bull. Do you? It’s as if that wasn’t anything unusual at all, much less racist or threatening. I wonder why the difference?

  5. FWIW: Infowars cites Yemeni who says there WAS no basis in fact for the red alert about a terror attack on embassies. We could have guessed. If it comes out of the Obama administration’s mouth, it’s not true:

“Rep. William Lacy Clay on clown: ‘Ugly face of intolerance’

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) were among the politicians who condemned the rodeo clown who wore a mask of President Obama and asked the crowd if they wanted to see the president “run down by a bull.” [The announcer did NOT say that.]

The incident took place at the Missouri State Fair over the weekend. Clay issued a statement saying the act showed “an ugly face of intolerance.”

I am amazed that in 2013, such hatred, intolerance and disrespect towards the President of the United States could take place at the Missouri State Fair. Our fair is supposed to showcase the best of Missouri, instead, it showed an ugly face of intolerance and ignorance to the world.” …

The rodeo clown responsible for the performance has been permanently banned from the Missouri State Fair, KVUE News reported.”

INTOLERANCE once again by the progressives and DemoncRATS. The man MUST LOSE HIS JOB and livelihood for simply carrying on what looks like a rodeo TRADITION. Clay is “amazed that in 2013, such hatred, intolerance and disrespect towards the President of the United States could take place.” WELL, SENATOR CLAY, SINCE YOU DIDN’T STOP THIS AT RODEOS BACK IN 1994, WHY WOULDN’T THE TRADITION CONTINUE? IS IT OKAY TO MOCK A WHITE PRESIDENT BUT NOT A WHITE BLACK ONE? HYPOCRITES!

See the story below from Gateway Pundit. He’s talking about the other rodeo, in Pennsylvania, that used a similar dummy of President George H.W. Bush. Clay was in office then, I’m sure. Seems he’s been in office FOREVER.

Anyway, it had this song in it, which I love it:

  9. Here are two important news items about a clown:
and since Libya went so well, we have this:
    Why are we doing this?
More accurately, why is Congress allowing this to be done in our name?

  10. Just a little reminder that when you hear “Benghazi” think Libya.

This is a really good article that Congress should read so to become aware of what we already know.

    • As many of us have been observing since the fall of 2012, the Benghazi outrage — an attack that, due to the Obama administration’s aggressive passivity, became a massacre — is the “scandal” that will never go away. And yet the story never achieves the fever pitch of many past, far lesser abuses of power, because the administration, in cahoots with its propaganda wing in the American news media, always finds a way to tamp down the big questions at the very moment those questions threaten to break loose in the American consciousness.

    • Makes an awful lot of sense, doesn’t it? Seems we predicted this scenario back when this happened. From dave m’s link:

“… A lawyer representing one of the whistleblowers with knowledge of the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi last September says 400 surface-to-air missiles were “diverted to Libya” during the attack and fell into “the hands of some very ugly people.”

In an interview with Washington, D.C., radio station WMAL on Monday, Beltway lawyer Joe diGenova said he “does not know whether [the missiles] were at the annex, but it is clear the annex was somehow involved in the distribution of those missiles,” reported.

Saying his information “comes from a former intelligence official who stayed in constant contact with people in the special ops and intelligence community,” diGenova said the U.S. intelligence community is terrified the missiles might be used to shoot down airliners — and that fear, in part, fueled the closing of embassies in the Middle East last week. …”

Even if it happens, as with Flight 800, they will simply LIE about it some more.

      • This, in itself, sounds like a lie:

“”We have learned that one of the reasons the administration is so deeply concerned” is that “there were 400 surface-to-air missiles stolen, and that they are … in the hands of many people, and that the biggest fear in the U.S. intelligence community is that one of these missiles will be used to shoot down an airliner,” diGenova said, adding that his sources have told him the missiles are in the hands of al-Qaida operatives.”

I don’t believe they were “stolen”. In the first quote, he said “diverted to Libya.” That sounds more correct.

      • and the “lawyer” is no other than ~

He and his wife know ever-y-thing.

Still reading this. It’s pretty funny.

  12. Oh, you have to read that. Osama = Obama.

Look at this part on Jeremiah Wright:

“Near the end of Osama’s race for the 2008 presidential nomination, someone released tapes of his pastor Jeremiah Wright saying, “God damn America,” and, “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” While some perceived vitriolic overtones in Wright’s comments, Osama assured them that Wright was purely discussing management of the local Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet, and furthermore that he could not be Wrong, because he was Wright. Furthermore, since Jeremiah Wright is married – everyone knows two Wrights can not equal a wrong.

  13. If you guys read that link, the stuff about Osama (Obama), click on the top where it says, Oops, did you mean Barack H. Obama?

It’s funny, too. Under the Health Care section, it says:

“Having transformed American industry along the successful Soviet model, Obama turned to the signature issue of health care, to replace unimportant treatment with a system of universal coverage. In one version of the reform bill (S.666):

Page 105 reduces health-care costs by requiring the states of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina, and the City of Detroit, to secede from the union immediately
Page 2356 further reduces health-care costs by ensuring that every American gets an annual rectal exam, administered by a compassionate and gentle IRS employee.
Page 3999 ensures that communicable diseases are not spread aboard airliners by giving the TSA powers to administer a complete physical, including mammography, pap smear and/or prostate exam before boarding is permitted.

The decimated opposition was left to carping that the U.S. Government might not be able to manage everyone’s medical treatment, given that it had already failed to:

Operate a web site to reimburse citizens who had junked their high-pollution cars,
Keep reality-TV gadflies from crashing state dinners, and
Watch obvious hijackers who are on the Watch List.

Obama promised that Americans could keep their favorite doctors, in the same way that they already choose their letter-carriers. “

    • funny, funny, Kittycat….if we can get the TSA to administer all those exams, we might could cut out half the heath care necessities! too funny

  14. The overreaction to the rodeo clown has led to the same type of thing that the attacks on Paula Deen did. The INTOLERANT left forced this rodeo clown to be banned from the State Fair forever, the local paper “outed” him, the man who was falsely painted as the bigoted announcer has gotten death threats (but no apologies that I know of from the media), and the superintendent of schools in one small town has been made to resign because of being an announcer (but not the “offensive” one) at the fair. In addition, the head of the State Fair committee resigned, too, so the DemoncRAT got his wish and “heads rolled”. NOW that they have set the precedent, I look forward to seeing if it holds for when progressives mock conservative office holders at ANY facility that receives ANY public funds. The MO State Fair is subsidized but not completely funded by the state, apparently. Therefore, never more can any TV or radio program associated with NPR mock any Republican. Right? Recently, I posted a story about how public buildings, using taxpayer funds, all across the country (but also in MO) were lit up in rainbow colors for Gay Pride Day (or week, or month, whatever). But this ASSUMES that we all agree, right? And this is our tax money, too, and some find THAT offensive. So does that mean that next year we won’t see a repeat? In addition, I heard on radio this morning a guy who’s gone to rodeos in MO for decades. He said EVERY president throughout his lifetime of rodeo-going has been impersonated by rodeo clowns. Rodeo clowns wear masks and they OFTEN choose the president, whoever he (traditionally) is. What makes Obama different, the man asked? They have got it ABSOLUTELY backwards and I wonder if the ACLU will go to bat for any of these people. It’s the GOVERNMENT that cannot, under the Constitution, infringe upon free speech. It’s PRIVATE BUSINESSES that have a right to enforce speech codes for their employees. So from now on, ANY performer at ANY of the national musical events (like on the mall or at Christmas or in the WH) can NO LONGER SAY ANYTHING REMOTELY PARTISAN OR POLITICAL? I’m sure they will and nobody will bat an eye, because there’s a double standard.

    • At the premiere Winfrey was in good spirits, telling the AP that account of her experiencing racism in a store in Switzerland recently was “just an incident,” and not an indictment of the country. “I’m really sorry that it got blown up,” said Winfrey. “I purposefully did not mention the name of the store. I was just referencing it as an example of being in a place that people wouldn’t expect that you would be there.”

But she stood by her account. “For me, racism doesn’t show up” outside of Facebook or Twitter, the media mogul explained. “For me, it shows up differently…I’m in a store and the person doesn’t know that I carry the black (Amex) card, and they so they make an assessment based on upon the way I look…I guess I didn’t dress up enough.”

          • Did you hear she apologized to the poor Italian/Swiss clerk who she falsely accused of racism? Oh, my. After destroying the woman’s reputation–nevermind. Oh, how the RICH are different. Know what? She only wanted that $38,000 purse to go with the outfit she wanted to wear to Tina Turner’s wedding. Guess who else was there at Tina’s wedding? The lady who owns the purse store! Think there was a little chat between Tina and Oprah about her friend, the purse-store-owning lady? Hmmm. Tina still has to live in Switzerland, after all. Oprah can fly anywhere she wants on her private jet.

        • Is this racist? It’s what Oprah says she has and should have let that Swiss clerk realize that she can afford a $38,000 purse to use for one day for Tina Turner’s wedding. I still wonder how many little African girls can be educated for the kind of dough Oprah drops on a purse? Gee, isn’t it interesting that the Romneys, how give SO MUCH to charity, were demonized for being so rich?

        • Some apology. She still claims she was profiled because of how she looked and she got “turned away” which is not true. She won’t cut the clerk ANY slack. She has her narrative (likely to help promote her movie) and she has her PREJUDICES that lead her (with her huge chip on her huge shoulder) to ASSUME that if there’s a miscommunication because of an Italian/Swiss woman not understanding a woman who isn’t speaking Italian or Swiss then it must be because the European woman is RACIST. Now riddle me this: Aren’t clerks often on commission or don’t you think they get a bonus if they manage to SELL a $38,000 purse? Oprah’s upset that she mentioned Switzerland and people FIGURED OUT THE STORE that she was falsely accusing. So now that her “narrative” (a false one, learned from the likes of the Clintons and Obamas) is exposed for a lie, she’s “sorry”. But not for the right reason. Not because she falsely accused an innocent woman of racism and might have made her lose her job. No, she’s sorry that her fib was found out! But to further protect people like Oprah and Barry, the media “report” things that aren’t EXACTLY true. They say she apologized, but she didn’t. Not to the woman whose small little life she destroyed. Without a ton of money like Oprah, all that woman probably has is her job and her good reputation. Thank goodness that Tina’s friend stood by her employee. The clerk specifically said that she DID offer to let Oprah hold the bag, see the bag, buy the bag.

“In an anonymous interview with Swiss paper SonntagsBlick (which the Daily Mail translated), the Italian woman denied allegations that she refused to show the TV host a $40,000 crocodile handbag because Winfrey is black.

“I don’t know why she is making these accusations,” she said in the interview, according to the Daily Mail’s (and Google’s) translation. “She is so powerful, and I am just a shop girl. I didn’t hurt anyone. I don’t know why someone as great as her must cannibalize me on TV.[Whoops! Is that racist?]

She went on to explain her side of the incident.

“I explained to her the bags come in different sizes and materials, like I always do,” she said. “She looked at a frame behind me. Far above there was the 35,000 Swiss franc crocodile leather bag. I simply told her it was like the one I held in my hand, only much more expensive, and that I could show her similar bags.”

“It is absolutely not true that I declined to show her the bag on racist grounds…This is not true. This is absurd. I would never say something like that to a customer.””

There are other stories out there. Interviews with her boss, etc. Oprah’s an embarrassment. NO CLASS. Like her snooty friends the Obamas. Same chip. Same milieu from which each sprang. It must be something in the water of Lake Michigan.

          • The UK take on it:

“She claims the sales assistant refused to show her the black crocodile leather bag because – seeing a black woman – she automatically assumed she would not be able to afford it.

Now the saleslady has hit back, stating: ‘I wasn’t sure what I should present to her when she came in on the afternoon of Saturday July 20 so I showed her some bags from the Jennifer Aniston collection.

‘I explained to her the bags came in different sizes and materials, like I always do.

‘She looked at a frame behind me. Far above there was the 35,000 Swiss franc crocodile leather bag.

‘I simply told her that it was like the one I held in my hand, only much more expensive, and that I could show her similar bags.

‘It is absolutely not true that I declined to show her the bag on racist grounds. I even asked her if she wanted to look at the bag.

She looked around the store again but didn’t say anything else. Then she went with her companion to the lower floor. My colleague saw them to the door. They were not even in the store for five minutes.

She emphatically denied ever saying to Winfrey: ‘You don’t want to see this bag. It is too expensive. You cannot afford it.‘”

Doesn’t that sound SO MUCH like what DemoncRATS usually say versus the TRUTH of something? Uh, maybe the clerk was reluctant to get it down because it was HIGH UP and she would have to get a ladder? I guess Oprah didn’t even consider that scenario, just jumped right into RACISM!!!

Too bad that store doesn’t have video. Or do they? Maybe this is why Oprah’s apologizing to Switzerland. A shop that carries stuff THAT EXPENSIVE, and especially in Europe where cameras are everywhere, ought to have video. Maybe she’s trying to keep the video quiet and Switzerland will help with that. Movie producers might be leaning on her because it’s distracting from her movie that probably blames people for racism, too. It’s a theme, you see. A neverending story.

          • Over at ZurichMike shared his story of actually going into the store to show appreciation and support for the store over this Ooprah fiasco.

Weiner lets it out. He says Hillary is running in 2016 and HUMA will have a role.

Another topic: That’s a good editorial on this topic:

California law allows transgender students to pick bathrooms, sports teams they identify with

California on Monday became the first state to enshrine certain rights for transgender kindergarten-through-12th grade students in state law, requiring public schools to allow those students access to whichever restroom and locker room they want.

Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown announced that he had signed AB1266, which also will allow transgender students to choose whether they want to play boys’ or girls’ sports. The new law gives students the right “to participate in sex-segregated programs, activities and facilities” based on their self-perception and regardless of their birth gender. [And who can DISPROVE self-perception?]

Supporters said it will help reduce bullying and discrimination against transgender students. [But legalize discrimination against females!] It comes as the families of transgender students have been waging local battles with school districts across the country over what restrooms and locker rooms their children can use, disagreements that have sometimes landed in court.

The National Center for Lesbian Rights and the ACLU of California were among the bill’s supporters. Detractors, including some Republican lawmakers, said allowing students of one gender to use facilities intended for the other could invade the other students’ privacy. …”

Notice that this goes through high school. That means that a biological male can play women’s sports and potentially take away from a talented female a college scholarship. I’ll bet that the law also includes privacy provisions such that the high school cannot reveal to the college scouts that this person is a biological male!

This is a WAR ON WOMEN perpetrated by the progressive left. What if this is your daughter’s best chance for a good college education but hey. A biological boy who identifies as a female can play on her team and win that scholarship that she deserves. That’s IF the “boy” doesn’t just take the girl’s place on the team so she never gets to play at all.

Remember how Elizabeth Warren is an Indian because she says so, even though genealogy proved otherwise? Well, she took some deserving person’s financial perks by falsely “self-identifying” as native American.

So does this mean that henceforth any of us or our children can self-identify as black, so that WE, too, can get set asides and benefits reserved for blacks? Or native Americans? Or hispanics (black or white)?

Note how, in the story, the person does not even have to be diagnosed with gender dysphoria (or whatever they call it). It all goes with self-identification.

This is violation of all the rights of the girls just to please the parents of these so-called transgender children. It’s child abuse, imho. In a rational world, that’s how it would be treated.

Biology is destiny. These children are biologically male. Sports is a physical thing. Being “transgender” is mental; it has nothing to do with physical ability, which is superior (mostly) if the person is biologically male and is competing, UNFAIRLY, in women’s sports.

  16. Weiner is wilting…. Bill de Blasio… steps in big time! video…

  17. Clowns ordered to ‘sensitivity training’…
    Announcer, Rodeo President Resign…
‘I know I’m a clown, Obama just running around acting like one, doesn’t know he is one’…
    ‘It’s entertainment’…
NAACP: DOJ, Secret Service Should Investigate…
    ~ on Drudge ~

    • If the DOJ investigated, they’d find that rodeo clowns have been mocking presidents the SAME WAY since at least 1994, as proven by Dana Loesch.

      • I tell ya what….I spend more time on hear trying to find where you guys are talking about something I was going to address only to lose it entirely. It’s no fun looking back for a comment I find one minute and the next it’s totally gone . I must be horrible at this still, but I don’t think it’s just me/ there’s lots of stuff I figure I’be posted that ya’ll never even see.

        • I wish there were a solution, alfy, but I don’t know what it is. When people comment on older posts, it’s listed on the side of the front page, but then it gets bumped down and eventually off the list. Then nobody even knows somebody said something on that old post. Because I’m a moderator, I can use the search function and sometimes find it. I’m also able to look at a list of comments in the order they were posted, no matter what thread they’re on. I WISH that there was a way to have that option for everyone, OR I wish there were a way to extend the recent comments list to show the older comments, which you could then click on to see. Unless what you’re saying is that you post comments and they never show up. If so, then I don’t know where they go because there aren’t any in “spam” or in the “moderation” file at the moment.

          • I think getting bumped down and off the list is what happens. too bad. I wish there was a way to solve it too. I’m sure lots of people come to your blog because of something they typed in a search, but find it hard to locate in the blog was was relative to their search. Yeah, one time you and Renee were going to rectify this or put something on the side like that. Oh well, such is life.

            • alfy, I can’t think of a way to rectify it. Have you ever tried a “domain” search? It’s usually on the “advanced” search options on search engines. You put in the URL of the site that you want to search (instead of the entire Web) in addition to your search argument.

On the search engine Startpage, for example, this search will turn up every reference to the name nidesand on our blog:

On Dogpile, you put in nidesand and hit the advanced search tab and then select “include domain” and put on the line for the domain name and it will turn up every reference to nidesand on our blog.

Google works the same way, but I don’t use Google. First, you have to search for Google advanced search. Then when you find it, you put in your search argument (nidesand) and in the “site or domain” box, you enter and it will bring up all references to nidesand on our blog. So long as you can remember a good keyword or phrase from what you commented about (like Judith Clark) and you put our blog URL in the “domain” or “site” box on an advanced search, it’s easier to find what you’re looking for than using the stupid search option on the front page of the blog.

Otherwise, if you’re on the page of the post that has comments displayed, you can use the “find” function on your browser to look for a specific word or phrase from the comment you’re looking for. I don’t know what browser you use, so I can’t be more specific. Maybe you already know how to work that function.

I can ask WordPress if there’s a way to extend the “recent comments” list (but I’ve looked before with no luck) or maybe they would have another suggestion.

          • I have been to a couple of sites that Page their blogroll and then have as many recent comments as the side will handle, but don’t know if wordpress has a max number allowed for the widget.

            • Thanks What A Hoot. I’ll look into that. I think what you mean is that it’s possible to put the blogroll somewhere else and then the recent comments list automatically gets longer? If so, I can see if that might work. There are way too many sites on the blogroll, imho. I’ve been thinking of deleting some. Actually, some are dead links already.

              • It doesn’t automatically get longer. You set the number in the widget section. Just don’t know if there is a maximum number limit.

          • Oh and also have seen the blogroll on a widget picture that click on to get to compilation, again giving more space down the side for recent comments.

          • a side bar with recent topics ,Hoot, something like that maybe. I really don’t know. We just talk about so many subjects and then something else comes up and boom –##***! I get lost.

            • Remember that newssleuth or Bridgette, a long time ago, made that tab at the top of the blog for “Daily Comments”? Their idea was that somebody would post a comment to tell people where everybody was discussing a topic on any specific day. The problem with that was that nobody updated it. Nobody had the time. I know I don’t. I’m lucky I find time to write posts to keep things rolling. It didn’t work well, anyway, because nobody seems to even remember it’s there. It’s like our “links” tab. Sometimes we remember to put a good link there (like today, when both Papoose and I added Elle’s link to the PBS photos) and sometimes we forget.

          • You know yur getting old when you can’t even blog well.!

          • Well alfy, I just hope tomorrow I don’t read my comments and be embarrassed. Extreme pain had me doing some pain killers today (something I am not really used to) and I was silly enough to think I am thinking! Hmmmm…..what is my excuse the rest of the time?

          • OK. In the appearance section in the dashboard is the widget section. In the widget section is a recent comment widget and the max is 15. But….you can have a couple of them if you want. HaHa each would probably be the same 15, ya think?

          • yes, I have gone up there on the dash, but like you say things weren’t always updated or I really don’t know how to use it partly because it was inconsistant but partly because I just don’t really know what I’m doing. That domain search sounds interesting or useful. I’ll start experimenting(Watch Out!). Thanks all

            • Do try the domain search. Most search engines with an advanced option have a way to search only a specific site. The problem is narrowing down your search, but if it’s a specific person like Nidesand, you can easily find everyplace that name was mentioned.

          • Hey, Miri, just got to say I am not upset about the comments thingie; just contributing to the conversation. Here is what I do, knowing that if I don’t check in very frequently I won’t see if a new comment went on an old board: I have about six or seven posts I really like and noticed they get new comments occasionally so, each day I pic one of them and scroll through fast, looking for dates that are newer and read. Oh, first I go to the bottom and see if any new comments added at the end then I scroll up looking at the dates; find it easier going up vs down when looking for something. Anyways, that is how I have come to use this blog, stay pretty up-to-date. Sometimes, just for grins and giggles I pick a random topic down the topic list and visit for some casual refreshing of the memory. And…..I discover some recent comments in there, too! I love this blog and have been taken on some pretty good history research rides. Great brain candy.

            • Thanks for the tips. I wish I could figure out an easier way for people to find ALL the most recent comments. It SHOULD be simple for them to allow us to somehow get a list of comments in the order posted. It doesn’t seem like it would be THAT hard to program.

        • He definitely should be impeached. How many times does he have to break his oath of office, ignore the Constitution, ignore the LETTER and the spirit of the law, before they realize he MUST be reined in? The only way to do it is via impeachment, and anybody who won’t vote to impeach, is equally guilty of breaking his or her oath of office. Will they just sit back and allow him to become a dictator? If not, then NOW do they propose to stop him, if not via impeachment? DEFUND might be a way they could try, if they would just have the damned guts to do it. That’s also why the “racism” bs again. To put the fear of being called a racist on them again.

    • They recount incidents where Bush was “disrespected.” Somebody on radio today remembered when there was a “cartoon” of Bush and Cheney engaged in a homosexual act. Yeah, that was REAL funny. The worst part of all this is that the “narrative” in NO WAY matches what they “report” in the stories. Watch the video. The guy doesn’t even SAY what they say that he said AND the crowd does not “go wild” except to cheer for the guy who’s riding the bull.

      • I know, and they treated Bush horrible. Those ill liberals are going nuts over the clown, and that’s so stupid. Always going overboard over the wrong things, never the right ones.

      • Well I go google images for ‘george bush rodeo’ and find this pic, but when I click on article where it is located I just get to the Obama Rodeo clown story.

        • That’s weird. I heard today on radio (a black guest who’s conservative) that there once was a rodeo where a black MALE clown wore a Hillary mask (same exact routine) and there wasn’t ANY outcry. Would be interesting to find photos of all the examples of other officials being similarly mocked. If it’s wrong to mock Obama because he’s black, then DemoncRATS similarly should have been outraged for someone mocking Hillary because she’s a woman.

William Lewis Moore …a WHITE MAN SHOT twice in the HEAD ?

    • We don’t hear about this man, especially from the race baiters who would be praising him to high heaven IF he were a black man martyred for the cause of desegregation. Amazing double standard, isn’t it? btw, did you know the “Medgar Evans” (SIC!!!) was recently memorialized by that great proponent of equal rights–none other than the presumed next potus: Hillary Clinton!

Hillary Botches Civil Rights Hero’s Name
      “Medgar Evans.”

Hillary Clinton, speaking at the American Bar Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco Monday night, botched the name of civil rights icon Medgar Evers. The former secretary of state and first lady was recounting the story of one of her mentors, lawyer John Doar.

“In 1963, in Jackson, Mississippi, John stepped between angry protesters and armed police to prevent a potential massacre after the murder of Medgar Evans,” said Clinton, who was referring to Medgar Evers, a civil rights activist who was murdered while walking into his home on June 12, 1963. …”

This, after YEARS of living in Arkansas, where her husband falsely claimed that he remembers black churches being bombed. And blacks will dutifully vote for her, just becuase. Have you noticed that the meme in the media is to make her presidency INEVITABLE? It’s like Barry’s fake Air Force One. Recently, Kathleen Parker, the WaPo’s supposedly “conservative” columnist wrote as much, saying that Hillary will “save the world.”

  22. Out~rage?…. I have some… and it’s not about a CLOWN!!!!!

  23. Latest on the Clowngate:

The taxpayer-employed treasurer in MO used public time (and presumably resources and money) to call anybody who opposes Obama’s policies a racist. Dana Loesch called upon her to apologize and asked the Mayor to weigh in. He declined. But those taxpayers ought to ask why the double standard. If a clown cannot satirize a politician because he’s in a venue that’s partially funded by tax money, then why can a DemoncRAT who’s paid by taxpayers use public time (which taxpayers are paying for) to demonize the very citizens who pay her salary? Why does the mayor say she has a right to her opinion, but the rodeo clown does not? There’s a Facebook page supporting the fired clown and there’s also a WH petition supporting him. That’s at Gateway Pundit, if you’re interested. (Read the links at the bottom of Dana Loesch’s article. This one is particularly funny and pertinent. The former Governor of the State of MO (a DemoncRAT, of course) once performed IN BLACK FACE and the DemoncRATS defended him! Go figure. )

    • Redstate points out how this is FAR MORE SERIOUS that it may appear on the surface, demonstrating how OTHER autocrats criminalize ridicule of the TYRANTS: The State of MO is not in good company: Venezuela, Egypt, China, Russia, Iran, Malaysia, and India, among others. We, however, are SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN INALIENABLE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH. Where IS the ACLU?

      • And anyone taking taxpayer money now has to obey the speech and behavior rules mandated upon them. All Americans use taxpayer money; for roads, for public education, for membership in a Church that gets non-profit status, for health care, for filing taxes with the IRS whose workers are paid with tax dollars. We have been taxed out of existence. Literally. No identity left. No individual self.

        • If challenged in court, NONE of this would stand. The ACLU is AWOL. I wish Judicial Watch would support this man. They are doing this crap ONLY to intimidate. To create, as Stockman says, a CLIMATE OF FEAR. Somebody at Free Republic wisely said that the reason they allow the NSA spying to be exposed, perhaps even exaggerated, is to MAKE US FEAR that they ARE reading everything and watching everything. It may or may not be true but it certainly isn’t LEGAL if it is true. But that’s not what matters. What matters is that they want to CREATE FEAR, whether it’s based on reality or not. Same with this. They overreact and exaggerate in order to make everyone FEARFUL so that they SELF CENSOR. Then THEY don’t have to do it because THEY CAN’T LEGALLY DO IT. This rodeo clown should sue. It’s unconstitutional. If ANY entity like the MO State Fair Commission can force this upon any performer, then EVERY state commission MUST FORCE THE SAME on ALL PERFORMERS, even LIBERAL ONES. However, they let them get away with it. Across the country, Tea Party groups were treated differently from Occupy Groups. Tea Partiers had to buy permits, insurance, put up bond, clean up after themselves, disperse and not camp out. NOT SO with the Occupiers, who were occupying mostly DemoncRAT controlled inner cities. However, IF the Tea Party groups had sued, they WOULD HAVE WON. Whenever people challenge Obama and his policies in court, the people usually win because he is SO OBVIOUSLY OUTSIDE THE LAW AND STRETCHING LEGAL PARSING BEYOND THE BREAKING POINT. His weapon is fear. It’s mostly UNFOUNDED fear, but it doesn’t matter BECAUSE IT WORKS. He illegally stifled the Tea Partiers. Before election 2008, his “Obama Truth Squads” scared people into not questioning his Muslim faith and his citizenship status. Now, he’s playing on the racism angle again and it’s solely to re-up that kneejerk FEAR that Congresspersons have about being tarred in the media as RACISTS. Why? Maybe Reggie’s blathering gives a clue. They ARE afraid that the truth about his birth is going to come out. Maybe it’s TRUE that the CCP is making progress with VIPs. We can only hope and pray.

  24. Stockman comes through in one regard. Let’s hope he comes through on the BC issue, too:

Rep Stockman Invites Missouri Rodeo Clown Tuffy Gessling to Perform in Texas

Congressman Steve Stockman Wednesday invited the rodeo clowns who performed at the Missouri State Fair, and were banned or ordered into “sensitivity training” when one clown mocked President Barack Obama, to perform at a rodeo in Texas’ 36th District. Fair officials did not reveal the clown’s identity.

“Liberals want to bronco bust dissent. But Texans value speech, even if its speech they don’t agree with,” said Stockman, “From Molly Ivins to Louie Gohmert and every opinion between Texans value free and open political speech. I’m sure any rodeo in Texas would be proud to have performers.”

“Disagreeing with speech is one thing. Banning it and ordering citizens into reeducation classes for mocking a liberal leader is another,” said Stockman.

“Liberals have targeted this man for personal destruction to create a climate of fear.”

“The liberal reaction is straight out of Alinsky. They want to crush dissent by isolating and polarizing anyone who questions Obama, even if it’s a rodeo clown with a harmless gag,” said Stockman. “The idea to create a state of fear and make people afraid to trivialize Obama. No one tried to personally destroy the rodeo clown who wore a George H.W. Bush mask.””

    AMEN!!! He gets it!

    • A commenter at GP:

“Rush had a field day with this clown lunacy today. He quoted CS Lewis:

Only the devil can not endure to be mocked“”

  25. Rush compared the outrage over a clown dissing Obama to the Muslim outrage over dissing of their “prophet”: Then there’s this:

“As WND reported, the Obama-as-god narrative was evident again this week in a video posted on YouTube in which a young boy appears to be praying to the president.

“Thank you for all the stuff that you helped us with. Thank you for taking the courage and all the responsibility for everything you have done for us. And God has gave you special powers and you are going to handle it just fine,” the boy prays.

“You are good, Barack Obama. You are great,” he concludes, throwing his arms in the air and screaming, “Barack Obama!””

Creepy video at the link. “God has gave you a special power.” In addition, the kid begins saying this is a prayer FOR Obama, but it ends up being a prayer TO Obama.

    • btw, people calling in on a radio show this morning, who were AT the fair, said they couldn’t even understand what the clown was saying, what with all the noise. That’s typical and the announcers at rodeos talk fast, too, almost like auctioneers. So nobody even KNEW what was being said and nobody was crying out for the bull to run down the fake Obama.

  26. Draw out your WORST FEARS… (some fun 4 US… open facebook)
4 me… that O gets away with MURDER!!! & folks STAY UNAWARE

  27. Michelle Malkin’s top ten worst images of GWB that are far worse than the routine schtick of an Obama “dummy”.

  28. Cloward-Piven works in so many wondrous ways. Who’d’ve thought that Barry can vacation and bankrupt businesses at the same time?

“According to local reports, roadblocks surrounding the Obama vacation mansion in Martha’s Vineyard are frustrating locals, who can’t get to their businesses. “August is our make it or break it month,” Vineyard Artisans Festivals manager Andrea Rogers said to the Vineyard Gazette, “So this is the worst possible time of the year to block access. It impacts a lot of people.” Obama’s vacation week coincides with the heaviest time of the year in Martha’s Vineyard, known as Fair week. … August, for almost all Island businesses, represents a very significant percentage, maybe 33 percent, of all gross sales annually.”” [Probably WHY this week was chosen! No doubt the policy will be reinstated as soon as Barry’s back in the WH, pretending to lead.]

    • A related story. The optics would be wrong, therefore, a policy change:

Military Reverses Decision After Suspending Meal Tickets, Reducing Hours at Walter Reed’s Warrior Cafe

A veteran says that the military has reversed its decision on shutting down the café.

There are disturbing new revelations about the treatment of wounded troops recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center. The hospital has suspended meal tickets and reduced hours for its only café. The changes are apparently just the tip of the iceberg as the hospital struggles to cope with budget cuts.

Jennifer Griffin reports that earlier this month the military reduced hours at the Warrior Café in Building 62 which is where all of the multiple amputees and long-term recovering patients live….”

(No doubt to be reinstituted after Barry’s safely back at the WH, pretending to work.)
