Ogden Armour.

Alice was born in Buffalo, Erie County, New York, the only child of wealthy felt manufacturer William Edward Silverthorne, of Scottish descent (3 February 1867 – 30 January 1941) and his equally wealthy wife, Julia Belle Chapin (14 August 1871 – 2 June 1907). an heiress to the Armours, the family that owned one of the most well-known meatpacking companies of the time, Armour and Company. Julia was niece to magnate Philip Danforth Armour and daughter to Philip’s sister, Marietta, who left a great part of her property to Julia upon her death in 1897. William and Julia were married in Chicago on 8 June 1892] the city where Alice spent most of her childhood and adolescence, living with her parents in the affluent Gold Coast district. Alice herself became the favorite niece of her magnate uncle, J. Ogden Armour. The great wealth of her family caused her childhood friends to give her the nickname “Silver Spoon”, also an allusion to her surname.

Alice’s mother died of tuberculosis when Alice was only eight, leaving her a large estate. Writer Paul Spicer, who wrote a biography of Alice, argues that Julia Chapin died from complications arising from being locked out of the house by her husband during a freezing night. Alice herself was an asymptomatic consumptive from birth. Contrary to her own wishes, her father re-married as quickly as 1908. From his second wife, Louise Mattocks, he had five children, many of which died at a young age. Alice’s half-siblings included William Jr. (1912–1976), Victoria Louise (died in infancy in 1914), Patricia (1915-?), Lawrence (1918–1923) and an unnamed girl who died in infancy in 1910. Her father later divorced Mattocks and married two more times.

We need to take a look here at China, and a family there. They are connected it seems to the murder of a British businessman by the name of Neil Heywood.

The woman arrested for his murder last week is named Gu Kallai. Her husband is Bo Xilai. He is a former senior official for China that was removed from duty last week. His grandfather, Bo Yibo was one of Mao’s 8 immortals of the Chinese communists revolutionary generation. Bo Guagua, Gu Kalli and Bo Xilai’s son is in school here and lives near Harvard where he attends. Friends describe his parents as very international and multicultural.

Bo Guagua (24) may ask for political assylum here. He does wish to return to China to help in his family situation, but this story is unfolding, and I found other connections as well.

Bo Guagua has well connected friends. Oxford buddies etc..His mentor is a man by the name of Lord Powell. Lord Powell just happens to be the former private secretary to Margaret Thatcher and John Major. Lord Powell’s brother is Jonathan Powell, who was chief of staff for Tony Blair. Neil Heywood’s widow is not allowed to say much about the entire SINdrome it seems. Both Powell brothers seem to have major connections in China, and it looks like the Bo family had money issues with Heywood. We will look at more connections in comments.

Some speculate the television series Dallas had its inspiration in a true Texas saga of oil, money and scandal. Dallas first premiered as a five-part mini-series on the heels of the shocking, headline-making events surrounding T. Cullen Davis, one of the three sons of the founder of a Fort Worth oil empire. Mark Gribben goes as far to say that Cullen Davis was “the model for the villainous J.R. Ewing.”1 In a bizarre twist, Davis’s story was told in a television mini-series, which was a reminder — intentional or not — of Dallas. Cullen Davis, unlike his mini-series counterpart and the supposed Davis-inspired J. R. Ewing, was never one to strut in a cowboy hat and western-style boots or otherwise resemble Hollywood’s beloved Texas stereotype. Davis, who holds a degree in engineering, shares kinship to three American inventors: Eli Whitney, Samuel Morse and Charles Goodyear.2 “Maybe that’s where I get my inventive imagination,” said Davis when I told him of his famous cousins

John Percy de Jongh, Jr. (born November 13, 1957) is the current Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

[edit] Life and careerde Jongh was born in Brooklyn, New York. As a child he attended Sts. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas. After his parents’ divorce, he lived with his mother in Detroit, Michigan while his mother did social work for the Detroit Public Schools. During the summer, de Jongh would return to St. Thomas to assist in his father’s law firm. He earned an economics degree from Antioch College in Ohio.

De Jongh is a product of Catholic schooling, attending such institutions both on the island and in the United States. During college, he was able to study abroad, and completed an urban study in Yugoslavia and The Netherlands. After graduating from college, de Jongh returned to his ancestral Virgin Islands. He worked for several years as a member of the Economic Development Council, during which he helped receive funding for the preservation of historic Virgin Island buildings, before taking a job with Chase Manhattan. de Jongh first worked as an executive in the company’s San Juan, Puerto Rico office before once again returning to the Virgin Islands after earning the position of Consumer Manager of Operations in both the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Under his leadership, Chase placed more emphasis on personal over corporate banking in the Caribbean and increased home mortgage lending.

In 1986, he married Cecile Rene Galiber of St. Croix. They have three children.

In 1987, de Jongh was appointed as Commissioner of Finance by Governor Alexander Farrelly, his first political office and one that had once been held by his grandfather, Percy. He was key in financial reforming and boosting the economy of the territory in the early 1990s. He also worked as an executive assistant to the governor’s office, and he helped to coordinate better interagency cooperation. In 1992, de Jongh left politics and was a powerful and successful businessman. He worked as a consultant for Public Financial Management and was one of the creators of the oversight committee to help Washington, D.C. becoming financially sound. de Jongh has also been an executive at Lockhart and Chilmark Partners, two large Caribbean real estate firms.

The comprehensive investigative report alleges that Governor deJongh, Attorney General Vincent Frazer, and several members of the 29th legislature received more than 20 million dollars in bribes for services to be rendered. Accordingly, the report indicates that there is currently a sealed federal indictment from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) that is in the process of being executed on all parties concerned.

In 1913, the magazine was purchased by the banking firm of White Weld & Co., which organized the McCall Corporation under the direction of president Edward Alfred Simmons. In 1917, the price was raised to 10 cents per issue.[10] In 1922, Harry Payne Burton became editor, and for the first time such well-known fiction writers as Kathleen Norris, Harold Bell Wright, Zane Grey and Booth Tarkington had stories published in McCall’s.[11]

In 1928, the 23 year-old associate editor, Otis Wiese, was promoted to editor. He believed “women were ready for more significant fiction than Gene Stratton-Porter” and suggested that McCall’s sell Burton’s acquisitions of popular fiction to Ladies Home Journal and Woman’s Home Companion. Such radical ideas caused Wiese to be fired at least six times within his first year as editor, but he was always rehired because, as he put it, “there was no one else around the place with ideas.

The eldest of four children, she was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her father was a chemist and her mother a social worker. Her early childhood was spent in a succession of Quaker communities in the mountains of North Carolina and in Raleigh.[1] She didn’t attend a school until she was 11 and this unorthodox upbringing enabled her to view “the normal world with a certain amount of distance and surprise”.[1]

She graduated at 19 from Duke University, and completed graduate work in Russian studies at Columbia University in New York City. She worked as a librarian and bibliographer before moving to Maryland.

[edit] CareerShe is noteworthy among contemporary best-selling novelists, for she rarely grants face-to-face interviews or does book tours, nor does she make many other public appearances, although she has made herself available through email interviews.

Tyler’s ninth novel, Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, which she considers her best work, was a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award in 1983. Her tenth novel, The Accidental Tourist, was awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1985, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1986 and was made into a 1988 movie starring William Hurt and Geena Davis. Her 11th novel, Breathing Lessons, received the Pulitzer Prize in 1989. She has edited three anthologies: The Best American Short Stories 1983, Best of the South, and Best of the South: The Best of the Second Decade.

[edit] Personal lifeIn 1963, Tyler married Iranian psychiatrist and novelist Taghi Mohammad Modarressi, with whom she had two daughters, Tezh and Mitra. Modarressi died in 1997. Tyler resides in Baltimore, Maryland, where most of her novels are set. Her daughter Mitra is an artist and book illustrator.

White, Weld & Co. is a privately held global financial services firm engaged in asset management, investment advisory, investment banking and other capital market activities. Relaunched in 2012, the business is headquartered in Chicago. Previously, White, Weld & Co. was a Boston-based investment bank, historically managed by Boston Brahmins until its sale to Merrill Lynch in 1978. The Weld family name can be traced back to the founding of Massachusetts in the 1630s.

[edit] HistoryWhite, Weld & Co. was founded in Boston in the nineteenth century, originally to finance overseas trade. It developed into a small, well-connected New York investment bank by the twentieth century and a bastion of the WASP establishment. For example, George Herbert Walker, Jr., uncle of the first President Bush, became an executive of White, Weld when his firm G. H. Walker & Co. was bought by them in the early 1970s. Charles J. Fuhrmann II, Paul Hallingby, Steve Hammerman, Harold Janeway, Charles C. Lee, Nigel S. MacEwan and George G. Montgomery, Jr. were Senior Vice Presidents and Roberts W. Brokaw was Vice President when the company was sold to Merrill Lynch. As stock markets became more retail-oriented and investment banking became more capital intensive, the firm decided it could not compete and put itself up for sale. One of the firm’s most prominent transactions in its final period was the IPO of Walmart in 1970 with Stephens Inc. The firm’s employees were known for frequently wearing white bucks as their footwear. Note that they frequently allowed these shoes to become exceedingly dirty and these became a symbol of the firm’s status within the WASP establishment.

[edit] Relationship with Credit SuisseOne of its most successful ventures was an international investment banking partnership founded in 1970 by Robert L. Genillard as a Managing Partner of White Weld & Co, with Credit Suisse , called ‘’Société Anonyme du Credit Suisse et de White Weld’’ – or Credit Suisse White Weld. Sir John Craven, later head of Morgan Grenfell, led Credit Suisse White Weld from 1975 to 1978. Furthermore, Oswald Gruebel, Credit Suisse chief from 2004 to 2007, began his career in 1970 at Credit Suisse White Weld. When White Weld was purchased by Merrill Lynch, it left the partnership with Credit Suisse and was replaced by First Boston thus creating the Credit Suisse First Boston business in London. The Swiss private banking division of White Weld, founded in 1954 as White Weld & Co. AG, lives on as Clariden Bank.

Macaws are small to large, often colourful New World parrots. Of the many different Psittacidae (true parrots) genera, six are classified as macaws: Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca, and Diopsittaca. Previously, the members of the genus Primolius were placed in Propyrrhura, but the former is correct in accordance with ICZN rules.[1] Macaws are native to Mexico, Central America, South America, and formerly the Caribbean. Most species are associated with forests, especially rainforests, but others prefer woodland or savannah-like habitats.

    Edward Cecil Guinness
Around 1880, Arthur Edward Guinness was raised to the peerage as Baron Ardilaun, and sold of his share in the family brewery to his brother Edward.

In 1886 Edward launched the brewery as a public company, in which he remained the largest shareholder. His contributions to hospitals and housing were immense.Edward was created a baronet in 1885, and in 1891 was raised to the peerage as Baron Iveagh. Guinness boss, the Earl of Iveagh (1847-1927), gave each of his three sons £5,000,000 in cash (Over £100,000,000 in today’s money) as a wedding present.Edward Cecil GUINNESS was born 10 Nov 1847. He died 7 Oct 1927. Edward married Adelaide Maria GUINNESS on 20 May 1873.

[Notes] Adelaide Maria GUINNESS died 16 Feb 1916. She married Edward Cecil GUINNESS on 20 May 1873.They had the following children:
Rupert Edward Cecil Lee GUINNESS was born 29 Mar 1874.
Arthur Ernest GUINNESS JP was born 2 Nov 1876 and died 1949.
Walter Edward GUINNESS was born 29 Mar 1880 and died 6 Nov 1944.

Born 10th Nov 1847, St Anne’s, Clontarf, Co. Dublin
First earl of Iveagh, he was educated at TCD. The family business was formed into a public company in 1886 and he became chairman; applications for shares exceeded £100 million in a heavy oversubscription. His benefactions to his native city ran into hundreds of thousands of pounds, devoted chiefly to hospitals and housing for the poor. After 1900 he lived mainly in England. Died London, 7 October 1927, leaving an estate estimated at £11 million.

The Elveden Estate Elveden Eriswell Icklingham
A brief outline of the development of Elveden Estate during the ownership of the Guinness family 1894 – to the present day.The First Earl of Iveagh, Edward Cecil Guinness, purchased the Elveden Estate from the Executors of Maharajah Duleep Singh in 1894. Lord Iveagh’s main interest was in the Shooting and Elveden was reputed to be one of the best Sporting Estates in the country. Throughout the Edwardian period the fame of the Elveden Shoot became widespread. Many notable people came to Elveden to enjoy the shooting and the Earl’s hospitality, among them Edward, Prince of Wales, later to become King Edward V11, and his illustrious friends, all conveyed by carriages and later cars, from Thetford Station, together with their personal servants, and a huge quantity of trunks and boxes.

Lord Iveagh increased the number of people employed, building new cottages to house the expanding population. New roads were laid and a brick-works established in which the distinctively stamped ‘Elveden’ red- bricks were made; a light railway was constructed to facilitate the movement of the bricks and equipment to the various building sites. Lord Iveagh more than doubled the size of the Hall; a wing was built to match the existing hall and the two were joined, centrally, by an imposing copper-domed edifice. An impressive servants’ quarters was built and connected to the Hall’s eastern end. A branch railway line linking Barnham Station to Elveden was established – so that a locomotive and trucks could transport materials, including marble and stone, to where it would be needed for the construction of the Hall.

Edward Cecil founded and endowed the Chadacre Agricultural Institute in 1921. This was one of England’s first agricultural institutes and its purpose was to provide agricultural education to the sons of farm labourers, small holders and farmers in Suffolk and surrounding counties. The First Earl was a great philanthropist, amongst his many gifts was included a large sum for scientific research and another to the Jenner Institute of Medicine. He also gave his Kenwood House and the priceless collection of paintings it contained to the nation.

Deepwell Situated in the south Dublin suburb of Blackrock on Rock Hill. The house, originally called Fairy Hill, was built on this site in 1810. Re-named Deepwell it was “substantially renovated” in 1840. It stands on a 1.2ha site overlooking Dublin Bay with Howth Head on the skyline. In 1842 a lease of the lands at Deepwell was awarded by the Hon. Sydney Herbert to Richard Samuel Guinness Esq. who occupied the house for some years. His daughter Adelaide married her cousin the 1st Earl of Iveagh in 1873. The house was acquired in 1942 by the present owners.

Prince Ali Salman Aga Khan (June 13, 1911 – May 12, 1960), known as Aly Khan was a son of Aga Khan III, the head of the Ismaili Muslims, and the father of Aga Khan IV. A socialite, racehorse owner and jockey, he was the third husband of actress Rita Hayworth. After being passed over for succession as Aga Khan, he served as Pakistan’s representative to the United Nations, where he became a vice president of the General Assembly.

His first name was typically spelled Aly in the press. The titles of prince and princess, which are claimed by children of the Aga Khan by virtue of their descent from the Qajar king Fath Ali Shah of the Persian Qajar dynasty, were recognized as courtesy titles by the British government in 1938.[1]

Birth and educationBorn in Turin, Italy to a father of an Iranian origin (Aga Khan III), who was born in Karachi (then under British colonial rule), and Italian mother. He was the younger son and only surviving child of the Aga Khan III and Cleope Teresa “Ginetta” Magliano, a dancer with the Ballet Opera of Monte Carlo.[2] He had two brothers: Prince Giuseppe Mahdi Aga Khan (who died in 1911) and, by his father’s third marriage, Sadruddin Aga Khan.Aly Khan was educated by private tutors in India and France during his childhood and later trained in England as a lawyer.

    First marriage
He married as his first wife the Hon. Joan Guinness (née Yarde-Buller, 1908–1997). She was the former wife of Group Capt. Thomas “Loel” Guinness, a Member of Parliament, and a daughter of the 3rd Baron Churston. The wedding took place in Paris on May 18, 1936, a few days after Joan Guinness’s divorce became absolute. Before the wedding, the bride converted to Islam and took the name Tajuddawlah .“I had been involved with several women”, he said of his playboy period of his life, which included high-profile lovers such as the British debutante Margaret Whigham and Thelma, Viscountess Furness, an American who was simultaneously involved with the Prince of Wales.[3] “I was tired of trouble. Joan was a sane and solid girl, and I thought if I married her, I would stay out of trouble.”[4]

He had been named co-respondent in the “Guinness vs. Guinness and Khan” divorce suit, with Loel Guinness citing as evidence that his wife and the Prince had occupied a hotel room together from 17 May until 20 May 1935 and that his wife had told him that she “had formed an attachment for him and desired her husband to divorce her”. The case was uncontested, and Aly Khan was ordered to pay all costs.[5]

The couple’s first child, Prince Karim, was born in Geneva, seven months later; they also had a second son, Prince Shujah Uddin Amyn Mohammad Aga Khan. By this marriage, he had a stepson, Patrick Guinness.

They divorced in 1949, in part due to his extramarital affairs with, among others, Pamela Churchill.[6] After the divorce, Joan Aly Khan (as Princess Tajudowlah was popularly known) became the longtime mistress and eventual wife of the newspaper magnate Seymour Berry, 2nd Viscount Camrose.
