US Orders News Blackout Over Crippled Nebraska Nuclear Plant

A shocking report prepared by Russia’s Federal Atomic Energy Agency (FAAE) on information provided to them by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) states that the Obama regime has ordered a “total and complete” news blackout relating to any information regarding the near catastrophic meltdown of the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant located in Nebraska.
According to this report, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant suffered a “catastrophic loss of cooling” to one of its idle spent fuel rod pools on 7 June after this plant was deluged with water caused by the historic flooding of the Missouri River which resulted in a fire causing the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) to issue a “no-fly ban” over the area.
Located about 20 minutes outside downtown Omaha, the largest city in Nebraska, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant is owned by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) who on their website denies their plant is at a “Level 4” emergency by stating:
Russian atomic scientists in this FAAE report, however, say that this OPPD statement is an “outright falsehood” as all nuclear plants in the world operate under the guidelines of the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) which clearly states the “events” occurring at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant do, indeed, put it in the “Level 4” emergency category of an “accident with local consequences” thus making this one of the worst nuclear accidents in US history.
Though this report confirms independent readings in the United States of “negligible release of nuclear gasses” related to this accident it warns that by the Obama regimes censoring of this event for “political purposes” it risks a “serious blowback” from the American public should they gain knowledge of this being hidden from them.
Interesting to note about this event was the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chief, Gregory B. Jaczko, blasting the Obama regime just days before the near meltdown of the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant by declaring that
This report further notes that the “cover-up” of this nuclear disaster by President Obama is being based on his “fantasy” of creating so-called green jobs which he (strangely) includes nuclear power into as his efforts to bankrupt the US coal industry proceed at a record breaking pace.
Unknown to the American people about Obama’s “war” on the US coal industry is it’s estimated to cost them over a 60% increase in their electricity bills by 2014 and cause over 250,000 jobs to be lost in an already beleaguered economy.
More ominous for those American people whose lives depend on the coal industry that is being deliberately destroyed is the Obama regime’s massive “security exercise” currently ongoing in the major coal mining States of Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, and as we can read about, in part, as reported by InfoWars.Com:
“If you’re still living under the delusion that the TSA is just restricted to airports then think again. A joint VIPR “security exercise” involving military personnel has Transportation Security Administration workers covering 5,000 miles and three states, illustrating once again how the TSA is turning into a literal occupying army for domestic repression in America.”
The TSA, in alliance with a whole host of federal, state, local agencies as well as military personnel, is currently conducting a massive “security exercise” throughout Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.
“The participating teams are composed of a variety of TSA assets including federal air marshals, canine teams, inspectors and bomb appraisal officers. They will be joined by state and local law enforcement officials to supplement existing resources, provide detection and response capabilities. The exercise will utilize multiple airborne assets, including Blackhawk helicopters and fixed wing aircraft as well as waterborne and surface teams,” reports the Marietta Times.
Obama’s fears of the American people turning against nuclear power, should its true dangers be known, appear to be valid as both Germany and Italy (whose people, unlike the Americans, have been told the truth) have turned against it after the disaster in Japan and vowed to close all of their atomic plants.
Perhaps even more sadly for the American people is this report stating that the Obama regime is “walking in lockstep” with Japan in their attempts to keep the truth of nuclear accidents from their citizens; which in the case of the Japanese can only be labeled as horrific as new evidence points to them knowing within hours of the Great Tsunami that their atomic reactors had melted down, but have only today ordered an evacuation of pregnant women from what are called “radiation hotspots.”
With a country that some scientists are now warning may soon become uninhabitable due to radiation damage, and with reports of mutant rabbits and radioactive whales now being reported, one wonders if in knowing the truth the American people would really want to follow Japan’s “example” instead of those people in Germany and Italy?
But, with an already documented 35% increase in the infant mortality rate for American mothers living in the western coastal regions of the US caused by radiation blowing onto them from Japan being ignored by these people there doesn’t seem to be much hope for them.

An article written on Sunday, June 19, “Several Levees in N. Missouri Breached” reported that “several levees in northern Missouri have been breached and are failing to hold back the surge of water being released from upstream dams.”
Authorities said water — some of it from recent rain — began pouring over levees Saturday night and Sunday morning in Holt and Atchison counties, flooding farmland and numerous homes.
Meanwhile, the Nebraska Public Power District issued a flooding alert Sunday for its Cooper Nuclear power plant near Brownville, Neb., as the Missouri River continues to rise. The declaration is the least serious of four emergency notifications established by the federal commission. The plant was operating Sunday at full capacity, and there was no threat to plant employees or to the public, said Mark Becker, a spokesman for the Columbus, Neb. based utility.

The Fort Calhoun Station, another nuclear plant along the river in eastern Nebraska, issued a similar alert June 6. That plant near Blair, Neb., has been shut down since April and will not be reactivated until the flooding subsides.
Mark Manchester, who is the deputy director of emergency management for Atchison County, said the river level has reached 44.6 feet, the highest on record and about 4 to 5 inches higher than 1993 flooding levels. He said minor flooding starts at 33 feet and major flooding at 43 feet. He said residents in the area had already evacuated their homes, and officials who operate the levee went up in a helicopter and saw several “pretty good size holes starting to form.”
The officials are predicating another breach, which could displace up to 200 more people.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced Monday afternoon that it was investigating the “unplanned radiation exposures” of three workers on April 3, a week earlier, at the Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville, Neb.
The NRC said it did not believe the exposure exceeded its limits. “Workers removed a long tube contaminated with highly radioactive material through the bottom of the reactor vessel, rather than through the top as is usually done, triggering radiation alarms,” the NRC reported. “The workers set the tube down and immediately left the area.”
The Cooper plant has a single boiling-water reactor of General Electric design. (GE is a part owner of NBCUniversal, which owns half of msnbc.com.)

Slow but massive flooding … when will it stop?

A lot of people have been asking the same questions, why so much flooding and when is it going to stop?
You never get a good answer. Sometimes you’ll hear “excess Snow in Montana”, or “excess Rain”. But, those answers are so vague, that it is hard to understand that their applicable to the current situation by and large. Have we had record rain? Possibly, but only in certain places. Not enough to cause this type of flooding, or is it? Why is the flooding this year, in 2011, not only condsidered “historic”, but why hasn’t it occurred in the past?

Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) officials of the private nuclear plant in Nebraska say they want to dispel rumors about the plant and that photographs and videos don’t tell the whole story.
OPPD officials explained today that the “giant donut” of water, that others called an ocean now surrounding the plant, was put there to keep the plant from flooding. It’s technical term is aqua-berm. OPPD officials showed news reporters a video they had made two weeks ago to explain how they are keeping the plant safe according to KETV. “I want (people) to understand the plant is safe (and) will continue to be safe,” said Dave Bannister, one of the OPPD nuclear plant officers.
In April, OPPD asked for a no fly zone over the plant because they shut down the reactor for routine refueling the privately owned nuclear facility officials have stated.
“It has nothing to do with radiation. There is no release of radiation from the site,” Bannister said.
Smoke, no fire? Some say there was no fire at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station. The Pilot-Tribune reported on June 8 that firefighters said there was no fire: “The Blair Volunteer Fire Department was called to the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station on Tuesday when smoke in an electrical cabinet set off an alert. No flames were seen and the building was aired out with fans and employees were allowed to return later in the day.”

Cooper was near flood shutdown

Operators of the Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville said they are optimistic that floodwaters will not force the plant to shut down — at least in the next few days. The southeast Nebraska nuclear station came within about 18 inches of shutting down early Monday, when the Missouri River level at the plant rose to 43.8 feet.
The Missouri River must reach 45.5 feet (902 feet above sea level) before officials will shut down the plant, which sits at 903 feet. The plant is operated by the Nebraska Public Power District. NPPD spokesman Mark Becker said the river dropped to 43.1 feet by mid-day Monday and was expected to continue to ebb.
Becker said a problem with the National Weather Service gauge at Brownville led some to conclude that the plant was within 3 inches of a forced shut down. “We’re operating at full capacity,” Becker said. “What we’re seeing is the river leveling itself off, but we continue to watch and add protection around the plant.”
The Columbus-based utility sent a “Notification of Unusual Event” to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission when the river reached 42.5 feet about 4 a.m. Sunday. The declaration is the least serious of four emergency notifications established by the NRC.
Becker said workers have been preparing the station for flood conditions by filling sandbags, constructing barricades, stocking materials and supplies, and reinforcing the access road plant staff use to get to the station. More that 5,000 tons of sand was brought in for constructing barricades, such as Hesco barriers, around the station’s switchyard of transformers and other electrical equipment.

Most interesting are all of the citations used and I read all of them. I am not ashamed to publish stories, because our great researchers either prove them true or false. The President does not have authority to order a news blackout for such an event — Obama may be better than the average president, but he has no additional powers or authority. So the answer is, no, Obama did not order a news blackout.
There are two nuclear power stations in Nebraska affected by the floods. Fort Calhoun has been offline (for refueling) since April 9, kept offline for the flood. Cooper is still above the flood waters. We know this because it’s been extensively reported by the Omaha World-Herald, Associated Press, local CBS and NBC affiliates, and the national wires of CBS and NBC. AP reports have appeared around the world.
So it’s clear there is no news blackout.
Is this a dramatically different event? Compared with past years’ reports of events, no.

And how exactly do you know what powers this president has? Did you notice a news blackout on his eligibility for a couple years? Have you noticed all of his Executive Orders that try to circumvent Congress? Those marching orders were initially suggested by John Podesta and good old leftist money bags, Soros.

Each of our major networks is owned and operated by, and tilts with the views of, conservatives. If you don’t believe NBC, look at CBS. If you don’t believe CBS, look at the other networks. Check Bloomberg News and Dow-Jones (still relatively accurate despite being owned by uber-conservative, Obama-hating Rupert Murdoch).
I went to the Omaha newspaper, a Pulitzer Prize-winning paper that is generally neutral on Obama, except when they are anti-Obama. It’s a newspaper successful in Nebraska. That should dispel any fears of political bias.

Do you think that Pakistani newspaper that alleged the news blackout might have a political axe to grind against Obama? The source of the blackout story is well beyond the pale in terms of bias. Plus, the paper cited a Russian nuclear regulatory agency? I didn’t follow the story either, until a leftist acquaintance sent it to me — I think he was mistaken as I was in thinking it was the U.S. magazine, The Nation, and not a foreign newspaper (the typeface on the masthead was even pretty close).
Right away I noticed it was generally unsourced.
IAEA was meeting this week in Europe to discuss power plant safety. The entire world is, literally, watching every power plant with an issue. Nebraska’s plants are not a great concern at the IAEA (all plants are a concern,but they don’t raise alarms unnecessarily, historically).
I think we need to be skeptical of all reporting about safety at all nuclear power plants, and we should always ask, “Is this accurate.” But we can check to see. All the checks I ran said the flooding is a problem, but there’s been a lot of preparation to make sure it doesn’t go beyond “we’re flooded.”

It’s likely the reactor is a GE design — GE did so many of them — but that is not likely to skew the news. One, that work was done three GE presidents ago, prior to Immelt. Two, GE has always been a very conservative, nearly neo-Nazi organization (which is one reason airlines so trust their jet engines). Three, Immelt and Obama are not close (I think Immelt contributed to Bush a lot, and then McCain). Four, the plants are the responsibility of the local utilities that own them, now, not GE. Five, NRC is wide open to the public. If there is something in NRC files not known to the public, it’s only because the public has not looked. Nothing is secret.
Why do you say the story hasn’t been covered? I found stories in Canadian papers, on the AP wire (which goes to 300 U.S. newspapers), and on two national networks; Reuters covered the story pretty well, and Reuters has about 1,500 major clients around the world.
Why should they report a non-accident, especially with the memory of Rep. Weiner still with us?

About his ineligibility: You do yourself no credit by dragging out the tired old mantra about how McCain’s and Clinton’s opposition research would have shown Obama ineligible if he was ineligible (which he is) and they would have sued. Right. ROFLMAO. Would they have standing? Why would they when others, including Keyes, didn’t (so far)? While it’s a point, it’s not the whole argument. It rests on speculation, assuming that there are/were no other factors in play, like Clinton being pressured (blackmailed?) to step aside and accept the Sec. of State position, biding her time because the powers that be chose otherwise. As far as McCain, RINO that he is and always will be, he is inscrutable. Much of what he does or does not do makes little sense. Is inconsistent. For example, his rabid support for this Libyan debacle. Your argument also ignores other possibilities, such as one of them (more likely Clinton) has the goods and prefers to hold them, to play the card at the most opportune time. Executive orders, you say, have to be based upon law. But if a POTUS ignores law, then what?
Ordinarily, we have a POTUS who RESPECTS the law and the Constitution, and also the PEOPLE who RULE, not the POTUS. But what do you do when a POTUS thumbs his nose at the law and the Constitution? I know what you’ll say, sue or impeach. This is very concerning, whether or not the story about a news blackout is true. If the plant was within inches of being shutdown on account of flooding, one has to wonder about the wisdom of CAUSING such flooding. Did the Corps of Engineers even take this into consideration before releasing all that water?

“Hundreds of miles north of my little place here, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has made plans to flood my home all summer long. Call it a forced vacation. … since 2008, we’ve increasingly found that the corps has made agriculture a challenge.
We understand snowfall and rain. We know there’s been more of it in the Dakotas and Montana. It all translates into extra water in the river.
More than a year ago, friends in South Dakota talked about standing water, snowfall and overfull reservoirs. Some farmers in South Dakota were unable to plant crops in 2010 because of snow-melt water in fields along the Missouri and its tributaries. Here at Langdon, in the northwest corner of Missouri, we’ve had flood scares in three of the last four years. This year, flood fright has culminated in corps “inundation maps” — color-coded aerial photos indicating a record high flood potentially 10 feet deeper than the massive floods of 1952 and 1993. … The corps does everything by an operations manual. This is supposed to de-politicize the river so that everyone knows what to expect — even in the face of unusual events. Special interests and politics have rewritten that guide through the Missouri River Compromise so that it now seems to create more of these unusual events than it solves.
Two reasons stand out for the reasons that our home will sit empty this summer. The first is the revised Endangered Species Act first signed into law by Richard Nixon in 1973. At first, economic consequences had to be considered in plans to protect endangered species.
But during the Reagan administration, economic impacts were excluded as important considerations. That led to lawsuits against the corps as environmentalists demanded a place at the table to help write its manual. Then Gov. Bill Janklow of South Dakota sued the corps to keep reservoir levels higher following serious droughts earlier in the decade and fostered a plan to sell Missouri River water to dry Western states.
Janklow’s plan to pump water over the Rockies never came to pass, but unrealistically high water levels in lakes intended for flood control have neutralized flood prevention. One of our nation’s greatest flood control projects, one that protected our farm from river floods for more than 40 years, now seems to guarantee a flood one mostly because of what the manual says.
That’s because competing interests in recreation and the environment have eliminated the corps’ basic ability to prepare for excessive runoff by drawing reservoirs down to levels capable of absorbing more.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ River Manual is the equivalent of what an average citizen could expect if he allowed special interests to plan his vacation.”

Ed, we’ve seen how far people get in the courts when they sue about any grievance they have in opposition to this administration’s policies. See the Chrysler dealers, for example. Or those who owned stock in companies that went under or were bailed out, but their place in line was taken by connected ones and the little people lost their investments. Notice how the people are ruled to have no standing when they ask this president to simply present his eligibility documents TO THE COURT. Now, supposedly, he’s presented them to at least one select member of the media, but how about having his lawyer enter them into evidence in a court (instead of mentioning them in a footnote)? How about NOT sending a man to prison when all he had to do was to show LTC Lakin that original certified long-form birth certificate that he ALLEGEDLY AND BELATEDLY showed to one select member of the media and had his peeps flash at another select group of media?

On June 20, the Omaha, Nebraska World Herald reported that flood waters from the Missouri River came within 18 inches of forcing the Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville, Nebraska, to shut down. Officials are poised to shut down the Cooper plant when river reaches a level of 902 feet above sea level. The plant is 903 feet above sea level. The Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant, 20 miles north of Omaha, issued a “Notification of Unusual Event” to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on June 6 due to local flooding. That plant is currently shut down for refueling, but will not restart because of the flooding. Compounding worries over these two plants is a shortage of sand needed to fill massive numbers of sandbags to hold off Missouri River floodwaters. One ton of sand makes just 60 sandbags, and hundreds of thousands of sandbags are needed to help save towns along the river from flooding. Sand is obtained from dredging the riverbed — and the companies that sell sand can’t dredge the river while it is flooding. These plants are already in a risky situation, and the flooding in Nebraska could easily be worsened just by a summer afternoon cloudburst.”

The rising Missouri River last night breached a levee just three miles upstream from the Cooper Nuclear Power Station in Nebraska.
Nearby Mills County, Iowa, and Atchison County, Missouri, have ordered some residents to evacuate the area due to rapidly rising flood waters.
“This is a large breach and water will be moving rapidly. Persons should stay out of this area if previously evacuated due to danger,”Atchison County Emergency Management said in a statement.
The Cooper plant is one of two nuclear power stations in Nebraska that remain threatened by the rising waters of a severely flooded Missouri River. Both are under “notification of unusual event” alerts, the lowest of four nuclear emergency classifications.
The Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) which runs the Cooper power station says the plant is safe despite still-rising floodwaters. Unlike the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Station upstream, which has been shut down since April for refueling, the Cooper plant is still in operation.
The Associated Press is reporting that rather than putting the plant in greater jeopardy, the breach in the levee has had the positive effect of lowering the level of the river around the Cooper plant.
While the water level at the plant on Thursday was seven inches short of that at which plant owners have said they would shut down production, the breach in the levee caused the river level to fall by nearly two feet this morning, allowing plant officials to breathe a much-needed sigh of relief.
Gregory Jaczko, head of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Washington national nuclear power watchdog, is scheduled to visit the two plants on Monday.””
It occurs to me that this fortuitous levee breach keeps them from having to take any extraordinary steps, in the public eye, to save the plant, which would only call more attention to the FACT that these nuclear plants are at risk in the first place, despite of (or because of) somebody’s well laid plans. Incompetence, stupidity, or cupidity (by the NWO)? You be the judge.

Well, the first executive order he made in January 2009 was a good one yet goes to show you what a hypocrite he is , revoking bushes executive order about past presidents past presidents having executive privilege,disallowing archivists and the public from presidents records. He couldn’t wait to slap George in the face and says if you want to keep records from the public , y0u’ll have to go thru me or take it to court, trying to puff up his transparency, while not one single record of Obama’s is available to us. Not even his past senate records. I have read almost his entire 77 executive orders and most seem benign, the usual, but don’t be fooled. Executive orders have always been a way to circumvent congress. And no,while most may have roots in previous statutes this simply is not entirely correct. Presidential memorandums , orders ant the like are ways to further a presidents agenda, like the many he has made with large numbers of new staff to further his health care agenda, or his civic volunteerism or environmental agenda.Once they are made they rarely are challenged because of many factors. Like Obamas orders to leave a huge number of administrative people in Afganistan and Iraq to keep the fires going.Just watch and see what happens now that congress wants us out of Libya. See what the next EO will be. Clinton took us to Kosovo with an executive order.

What law school did you say you went to? Year please. Bar affiliations please? Since when do you accept uncertified documents as evidence of anything? Since you are acting as judge and jury here, maybe you should take judicial notice of the facts and information that are documented throughout the pages of this site. As it stands, YOUR lack of knowledge on the issues you raise is glaring.

In fact, it was so bad that he had to shut his fund down because he had promised his investors that he would give them all of their investment money back if the fund lost more than 30% in one year. Executive Order 13233 renee, and that’s not exactly it. I’ve read Bushes and Reagan’s executive order, which is the one that Obama’s executive order revokes. While I don’t have time(or really care to) explain all the distinctions of these orders, Bush’s Order made it so basically the President and the Past President can order his records not disclosed to the public, and the main thing is ,if that president should die, an appointed person, such as a family member(a wife, children, attorney,ect.) could have the executive power to still not allow priviledge to the archives of these records. Reagan’s order was similar,but Bush took it this much further. Everyone thinks Obama’s Order to revoke these powers was an act to show that his administration (he) was coming in under the most transparency. That’s why I say, so hypicritical.He still has the power to keep us from seeing his records. This is his executive priviledge.
Often presidents pass EO’s when congress isn’t in session. Another way to lessen the scrutiny of these orders. Ed may understand how individual states and governors pass proclamtions and State Executive Orders, as they are more apt to follow legislation, but the Presidents can be more evasive and can give a President more powers. One would have to study for a long time all Orders to see which ones have been benign and which ones have proved consequential and overstepped legal bounds.Often EO’s, like the ones where Obama orders up committees of 20-30 or so people of his choosing,some administrative and many unpaid to keep up with, say ,health issues, or environmental issues, at first seem benign and Congress is not having to order funding for his orders, but two years from now those same committees have become a strongarm of policymaking and suddenly become a funded intity within government to further the president’s agendas.

Renee, that article is very interesting — but there was no Executive Order issued on June 14. The EO issued on June 13 was wholly unrelated to the “Dream Act” as introduced in Congress, and the EO issued on June 15, was also unrelated.

No, the deportation of legal soldiers is a shameful request. There is no requirement that one be a citizen in order to join the U.S. Army, or Navy, or Air Force. For 200 years American immigrants have joined the military to fight for freedom, in the hope, and sometimes in the understanding, that they can get a fast track to citizenship.

It’s only a smear if we assume, as you appear to, that the solder herself is not a a member of her family and not subject to deportation. Your assumption would be contrary to ICE rules. That assumption on your part does not change the facts, and does not make my pointing out the nefarious end result of your favored policy, “a smear.”
Do you really think that just deporting the families of our soldiers would have no effect on morale, or their ability to secure freedom?
Obama did the right thing in telling ICE to concentrate on getting criminals, and leave soldiers and their families, and hard-working, degree-seeking students, and other law-abiders, alone. Those who claim contrary are no friends of any American, nor of America.
Ed, you must subscribe to the Bill Clinton rule of language. It all depends upon what the meaning of is is. What person would refer to himself or herself as one of his/her own “family members?” Nobody. It’s a clear sentence: “do not have to deport illegal aliens … if their family members have volunteered for U.S. military service.”
THEIR family members. The “their” is the illegal alien. Any family member who may or may not have volunteered for U.S. military service is not the person who’s being discussed with regard to deportation. That volunteer may or may not be an illegal alien. That’s not the person ICE is talking about deporting. It’s the known illegal alien who might have a family member who volunteered for the U.S. military. IF it were the illegal alien himself or herself, it would read, “do not have to deport illegal aliens if they have volunteered for U.S. military service.”
I have to remember to add to my daily prayers thanks to the Lord that I was blessed with the great teachers I had in elementary school, high school, and at university.

well just a quick check to find something to show you sort of how it works. The UN does have much influence on any national monument ,park, historic site , from the Taj Mahal to our dinky small coastal parks. Just cruise around any National park Website and you’ll find the UN or Unesco symbols. And they do coerce and help control what goes on with them.
The website Renee posted is at least spot on about losing land and control of it. Whether an EO exists recently, I don’t remember one, but some of the last ones I didn’t read in their entirety. Not only are we influenced and moved to do the UN’s bidding though, the government often gives grants to non profits that are buying up huge swaths of land whether for the sake of ecosystem protection, marine science and geo studies and these groups partner with the UN. so more and more the general public can only access state or federal properties under UN controlled conditions.
I’ve witnessed it. And almost all state properties are now federally funded properties so they fall under just about as many sanctions of the UN’s. Here’s just a quick sample and you can see that in the 1970’s, which is when sustainable living and the like was first introduced. I remember when counties had sustainable living centers(many still separately exist)which were funded by the fed.

The United Nations has zero say on the designation or operation of any U.S. National Monument. The UN has zero say on the designation or operation of any National Park, or any other component of the National Parks System. The United Nations has zero say on the designation of any state or local park.
That is by law in the U.S., and under the UN Charter. You claim the UN has some influence? Please offer some evidence.
Check the management plan for any component of the NP System, you’ll find zero influence from the UN. We write those plans in the local offices of the unit, after public hearings in which stakeholders get a fair say. By law, those plans must reflect the views of U.S. citizens — and in many cases, U.S. citizens have sued to change those plans when they didn’t think they got a fair say. The National Park Service bends over backwards to accommodate stakeholders in the Parks — citizens, inholders, neighboring communities, the states in which they are located, landholders next door, landholders and residents in the larger ecosystem when appropriate — but there is no provision for the UN to have any say in the management of any land in the U.S. (other than UN headquarters, and even then they have to get permission of the City of New York and the U.S. Government).
The UN confers “heritage” status on lands that have great historic or scientific value, but under the UN Charter that status may not interfere in any way with local land management, nor is there any money appropriated (nor can there be) to do anything with regard to management of the land.
I’ve been deeply involved in these issues for several years, officially and unofficially. I can tell you that no UN functionary has ever showed up for a hearing in any town at any time, and I’ve been to dozens of these things.
Moreover, while I don’t doubt that some of the prized lands we treasure as components of the U.S. National Parks System have earned recognition under the UN’s heritage lands program, it is untrue that the UN log appears at most NPS websites, or any website that I have found in a half-hour of searching. I ask you please to offer the URLs for any such logo’s appearance. And if you find such a logo, can you offer any indication, from that website, or from any other source, that the UN has anything to do with the management of the lands? On this issue I’m from Missouri — from the Truman Library and Museum — show me.
Plus, there is no Obama Executive Order which changes that arrangement in any form.
Our National Parks belong to us, to you and to me. The UN is prohibited by treaty and by its own rules from owning land. There is no reason we would offer National Parks as collateral to the UN. That’s complete hooey.

The more serious question is this: Just what actions do you claim the UN has taken with respect to management of any piece of land in the U.S.? Got any documentation?
Frankly, from a legal standpoint, the designation of a building as an Historic Building by the National Trust for Historic Preservation has actual legal effect — owners need to inform the National Trust when they plan to tear down the building — and that is much more powerful than designation by the UN, which carries no legal effect, no appropriations, and by U.S. law and the UN Charter, can carry no legal effect.
So, if there is a logo of the UN at any website, it’s an indication that the land is special. Here in the U.S., we love our National Parks, and we know that — and we take that designation as a point of pride, sort of like the Seal of Approval of the American Dental Association on a tube of toothpaste. Same legal effect, you know — zilch.
But then, you may think toothpaste is a UN conspiracy, too.
Got information? I’d sure like to see some.
I’ve been to many of those meetings where citizens supposedly give input, too. You know what happens in too many cases? It’s Kabuki theater. They give lip service to obtaining public input. They allow a number of chosen people to speak, often for a limited time, and then they ignore what the majority of the people said and go ahead and do what they planned to do all along. The community input phase exists simply to make people BELIEVE they had a say in the process and the result they see is from consensus. It’s not. It’s make-believe consensus.

Oh yeah, Renee, have you ever heard of the good steward or farm stewardship program? I don’t know that much about it but My friends have huge tracks of farmland and they get a tax break if they become partners through the county in this good steward program. They have to of course meet lots of criterea and plan not to use it except for certain purposes. They are proud of there farm and they see nothing harmful about it. They are just tickled they get the very discriminating tax break. I warned them ,but hey ,they consider themselves good stewards of their property and they are proud of their very self sustaining piece of farmland. This program has all the signs and bells and whistles of a UN inspired project.

Can you imagine? A law enforcement agency that sets “priorities” concerning the law. I didn’t think, when Congress passed laws, they imagined that those charged with carrying out the LAW (who are sworn to uphold it) would pick and choose which provisions to enforce and would “prioritize” via “discretionary enforcement decisions.”
This memorandum is especially galling because it flies in the face of Congress, which did NOT pass the so-called “Dream Act”. Whatever you want to call it, it’s an executive fiat that gives permission to do an end run around Congress and the express wishes of the American people. To top it off, they blame their actions on scarce resources (brought about, of course, by the Obama-caused economic crisis). Notice that if the agency is going to use “executive discretion” in a particular case, they’re advised to do it at the earliest possible stage. My guess is this means: Don’t even apprehend. If you find a “student”, just ignore the student. Don’t even bring the student into the system. That way, NOBODY knows that “students” are being let go. There’s a reason. Politicization of ICE. Pure and simple.

The Purposeful Flooding of America’s Heartland

Some sixty years ago, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) began the process of taming the Missouri by constructing a series of six dams. The idea was simple: massive dams at the top moderating flow to the smaller dams below, generating electricity while providing desperately needed control of the river’s devastating floods.
But after about thirty years of operation, as the environmentalist movement gained strength throughout the seventies and eighties, the Corps received a great deal of pressure to include some specific environmental concerns into their MWCM (Master Water Control Manual, the “bible” for the operation of the dam system).
Things turned absurd from there. An idea to restore the nation’s rivers to a natural (pre-dam) state swept through the environmental movement and their allies.
The Corps began to utilize the dam system to mimic the previous flow cycles of the original river, holding back large amounts of water upstream during the winter and early spring in order to release them rapidly as a “spring pulse.” The water flows would then be restricted to facilitate a summer drawdown of stream levels. This new policy was highly disruptive to barge traffic and caused frequent localized flooding, but a multi-year drought masked the full impact of the dangerous risks the Corps was taking.
This year, despite more than double the usual amount of mountain and high plains snowpack (and the ever-present risk of strong spring storms), the true believers in the Corps have persisted in following the revised MWCM, recklessly endangering millions of residents downstream.
At the time of this writing, the Corps is scrambling for political cover, repeatedly denying that it had any advance warning of the potential for this catastrophe. The official word is that everything was just fine until unexpectedly heavy spring rains pushed the system past the tipping point.

Floodwaters surround nuke plant after breach

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A tear on Sunday in a temporary berm allowed Missouri River flood waters to surround containment buildings and other vital areas of a Nebraska nuclear plant, but reactor systems were not affected. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said the breach in the 2,000-foot inflatable berm around the Fort Calhoun station occurred around 1:25 a.m. local time.
More than 2 feet of water rushed in around containment buildings and electrical transformers at the 478-megawatt facility located 20 miles north of Omaha. Reactor shutdown cooling and spent-fuel pool cooling were unaffected, the NRC said. The plant, operated by the Omaha Public Power District, has been off line since April for refueling.
Crews activated emergency diesel generators after the breach, but restored normal electrical power by Sunday afternoon, the NRC said. Buildings at the Fort Calhoun plant are watertight, the agency said. It noted that the cause of the berm breach is under investigation.

Crazy! Is this a different levee or berm than the one that broke the other day and made the water go down? I suspected that was a convenient breach, which might have taken pressure off the plant without them having to blow the levee themselves, thus admitting that they screwed up, big time. Now there’s suspicion that the berm was breached to endanger the plant again?
btw, this is barely mentioned on the TV nightly news, if at all. Do you notice? Maybe a self-imposed blackout to favor the chosen one. I’ll answer my own question. The berm was inflatable, so it isn’t the one that accidentally (?) ruptured, relieving pressure on the nuke plant. But then somehow the inflatable berm got a slice in it and voila! Back to worry about that plant. The thing is, if there’s no blackout, there’s still some weird stuff going on. Links aren’t working. That’s a great article by Michelle Malkin about the stealth attempt to institute the “Oceans 21” bill, which Congress won’t pass, by fiat. Dang..Meet the OBOT, Ed! Holy cow, he lives in my neighborhood if that is true! He is from Dallas! This history teacher works in the Dallas Independent School District. Yet, he looks so normal.
If Ed is still teaching at Molina High School…these are his students. Very telling.
The attendance rate for students at the school is 92%, in contrast to a state average of 96%. 80% of the students at Molina are economically disadvantaged, 7% are enrolled in special education, 9% are enrolled in gifted and talented programs, and 22% are considered to be “limited English proficient.”
The ethnic makeup of the school is 89% Hispanic American, 9% African American, 1% White, non-Hispanic, 1% Asian/Pacific Islander American, and less than 1% American Indian/Alaskan Native.

One can’t tell, but I’m seated in front of Lincoln’s cabin, or the reproduction of it, in the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois. Yeah, I work with students who are majority minority — they are, as all children of that age are, the future of our nation. It’s a task I gather you would find distasteful? Why bother to comment on the racial makeup if it didn’t bother you? In any case, those kids are smart cookies, if lazier than my generation (aren’t they all? I know my teachers regarded our generation as lazy . . . as did Aristotle’s teachers regard him, and he those he taught). Their parents or grandparents are immigrants, often. Still, with that makeup in the students in the classes, their families have often been in this land longer than mine. I’m only third generation on my father’s side. My grandparents and great, great grandparents came to this nation in the same condition and for the same reasons the ancestors of my students did. It’s a joy, often, to teach U.S. history to kids who opportunities, and who have a genuine desire to learn the facts.
My classes had attendance of 98%, by the way — higher than my old schools in Utah. Molina High leads Dallas district for general education high schools in achievement on state tests. We get beaten only by a couple of the magnet schools — you may have read about them recently in Newsweek.
In short, I teach some of the best students in the nation, though they have been regularly suppressed in their drive to achieve.
So I feel a strong obligation to getting history right, to getting the facts right, to avoid being snookered by voodoo history, bogus history, and simple error. We owe it to the memory of Lincoln, and more, we owe it to those students.
I hope you’ll see the wisdom in striving for accuracy.
Ed, one reason it might be pertinent to examine the make-up of the school where you teach is so that people understand better where you’re coming from. A person’s environment often informs his or her opinion. Don’t you think? Why do you assume Bridgette finds the make-up “distasteful” AS IF that’s the only reason she could possibly have for mentioning it. Why does the government compile the stats in the first place? Because they’re distasteful?

Miri, it is a teaching theology method known in the teaching workshops at Theater of the Opressed. Large teacher workshops for social justice and CHANGE, a major theme in their teaching methods. Sounds like Ed has been to some. In their own words, they say “Saul Alinksy would be proud of us”. I have the original teacher’s workshop summit in Rio de Janeiro from the 70’s and they go on in Universities and other various places around the country,today, like University of Texas and so on.

Second, and probably third: There is the minor kerfuffle of the hoax report out of Pakistan that nuclear power plants in Nebraska are either near meltdown, or already melted down, and you don’t know about it because President Obama ordered a news blackout to avoid panic but at the same time condemning hundreds of thousands of Midwesterners to radiation poisoning deaths. It’s an absurd story on several fronts and several levels — news of the flood plight of the power plants has been reported around the world, for example — but those bent on being suckered by every conspiracy claim to come down the pike, or bent on criticizing President Obama no matter how much they must twist the fact to do it, cannot be dissuaded.
Take for example this odd blog: A discussion of the imagined meltdown quickly disintegrates into defense of holding on to birther views despite Obama’s release of his “long form” birth certificate (no good information goes un-urinated upon). [CLASSY, Ed!] Then discussion veers off into all sorts of paranoia — UN “control” of U.S. lands, occupation of several states by rogue Transportation Security Agents (you didn’t hear about it due to the news blackout, most likely), Obama’s being controlled by or controlling GE (‘didn’t GE have something to do with the design of those nuclear reactors?’), Army Corps of Engineers plots to flood the Midwest (????), Obama’s overturning the Constitution through the use of executive orders (which no one there can find at the moment, but they’re sure they exist, somewhere . . . gee, did we misplace it?) including a wholly imaginary order to take over all rural lands in the U.S. (why?), and complaints that the U.S. is not deporting U.S. soldiers or their families quickly enough.
Such a ball of delusional paranoia and errors of history, law, and other facts! One might imagine these people so involved in tracking down misinformation and distorting real information that they forget to kick their dogs. (Seriously, I’d tend to think these people could be helped by having a dog or a cat, except for the very real fear I have they’d forget to feed the creatures; like a drowning person, fighting all efforts to save them.)
A PRIME EXAMPLE of a PROGRESSIVE WHO is teaching someone’s children how to adhere to the party’s ideological line..whatever that may be right now! May you, Ed, be kicked to the proverbial curb. Hopefully, some student’s parents will see what you are teaching and bring your “scholarly” ass in front of an educational review board that isn’t unionized. I get visited by the local and state authorities several times a year — checking for accuracy, that we stick to the state standards, etc. I’m happy to report, state standard-wise, I had a 100% pass rate for my kids in U.S. history. It’s an odd calculation required by our Republican overlords in Texas — not all the special education kids count in the pass rate — but about half my special ed kids got “commended” on the test.
I’m teaching the facts of U.S. history, and how to find them and keep them accurate, every day.
Most of the comments on this board wouldn’t muster in Texas. Mind you, Texas is a Republican state, and those standards are quite conservative. But your comments don’t measure up.
I tell students early in the year that I can’t push them through the test, that they must learn the facts. Same here: All I can do is show you the facts. You have to learn them yourself.
Prime example of a progressive? As a leader in the conservative movement in the West, as a Reagan administration appointee, I’d hope so.

As much as I hate to do it I’m going to apologize to Ed now that I see he’s wondered out of his pasture again. Ed , on the issue of UN logos on some of the state and national parks websites, I can’t find them anymore. So Ed, for now you are right. But Ed, I wouldn’t have said that unless I thought I could show you. First thing I did was go back to Cape Hattaras National seashore and Cape Hattaras Light House’s website, also it’s where Kitty Hawk and THe Orville Wilbur Wright memorial is because that’s where I first saw this phenomena. The UN emblem was on the top left of the site. I spoke about it to friends and showed it to my husband. Well now the department of the interior’s emblem is on the right and no UN symbol anymore. I looked and looked for info showing maybe a reason the emblems were removed and could find nothing either. So you now are right, but I did not make this up. I did find some blogs and sites where people were talking and asked this same question as they had seen these logos and emblems also on Park websites. My family and I have been going to the Cape hattaras light house and seashore since the 70’s and I have checked their site for most the years they have existed, checking on different aspects of that area. They are a UN biosphere area and global heretiage site. UN policies along with Audabon society have just about ruined the livlihoods of all the people living their. We have friends that have lived there for years and have businesses there. UN’s funded infuence is ruining their lives. Till I get to the bottom of why the logos are no longer there you are correct in saying they aren’t there, but they were there. There are States that have passed resolutions as UN Free Zones vowing no logo of any kind may be present in their cities , which would seem to imply that their logos may have been more prevalent till some people complained of their influence. I don’t know really.

But climate change? Please. These fires have been around for millenia. They’re important for plant diversity, btw.
for the last several weeks we have had two, actually three separate large forrest fires near us, sort of contained. The large and small ashes, the damp stinch , and pure burning smell has left many coughing and waking up with head aches and such. Depending on the wind or lack of wind , sometimes it looks like hazy California smog, with an orange pinkish glowing ball for the sun. I think both fires were started by lightning. One fire is really the smoldering and burning of a peat bog that stretches for miles. This is a natural phenomenon and is actually very healthy, as long as it can be monitored. The other fire has burned many hundreds of acres of forrest and detoured traffic, but is still about 40% out of control. Hoping a few more rains will help. And one fire was a somewhat controled burn, but not completely confined. The whole spring and summer you wake up thinking its foggy out and discover upon opening a door or window, no, it’s still the fires burning.

Report: North Carolina nuclear facility with superheated uranium leaking ten gallons of radioactive cooling water per hour

A nuclear research reactor at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, NC, was recently shut down after it was discovered that the plant has been leaking about ten gallons of nuclear cooling water per hour for at least the past week. Officials from the university, however, claim that the leak, which stems from the 15,000 gallons of water used to cool the superheated uranium reactor core, poses “no public health threat.”
The announcement comes on the heels of several others involving US nuclear plants, including the potentially ill-fated Fort Calhoun Nuclear facility near Omaha, Neb. (http://www.naturalnews.com/032870_F…), and the Los Alamos National Laboratory that was threatened by wildfires last week (http://www.naturalnews.com/032871_w…). In the NC case, reports do not indicate why radioactive cooling water is leaking from the facility, but its operators insist, just like the experts associated with the other nuclear plants are doing, that everything is just fine.
“The leak is the size of a pinhead,” said NCSU spokeswoman Caroline Barnhill concerning the incident, in an attempt to quell concern. The school insists that the radioactive water poses no threat whatsoever to humans or to the environment because exposure to it is allegedly the equivalent of undergoing an X-ray. The school also says that because the leak is under 350 gallons per hour, it did not even have to notify the public about it (but decided to anyway).
It is interesting how every time there is a radioactive discrepancy, experts insist that it is harmless — and they almost always, especially in recent days, refer to it as being no different than an X-ray.
Worried about the radiation emitted by naked body scanners at the airport? Do not worry, they say, it is just like getting an X-ray. Radioactive water is leaking from a nuclear facility? No worries — it is no different than an X-ray.
Even in Japan, just after the massive earthquake and tsunami hit Fukushima, experts basically ordered people not to worry because the radioactive fallout was no different than “a chest X-ray,” they falsely said (http://www.naturalnews.com/031759_r…).
If radiation was not the serious, deadly substance that it is, such idiotic propositions about its safety would be humorous. Every disaster, after all, whether it is a small water leak or a three-core nuclear meltdown, ends up being the equivalent of an X-ray and nothing more. And as silly as it sounds, experts routinely use the line about X-rays in their attempts to placate the public and rock it back to sleep.
Reports do not indicate very many details about the situation at NCSU, other than to denounce that it is of any danger whatsoever. But clearly this statement alone is untrue based on the X-ray explanation, because X-rays themselves are dangerous and are known to cause cancer (http://www.naturalnews.com/X-rays.html).
So to suggest that the radioactive water leak in NC poses absolutely no threat is itself a lie by default. And if experts are willing to lie about the little things, there is no telling what else they might be hiding from the public.
