  1. Nice digs, huh? Even more opulent than Bernie Madoff’s. Isn’t this how all dictators behave? They pretend to be for the little people, the poor, the put-upon middle class (if there even is a middle class) and yet THEY, the elites, live like kings.

Wagyu beef at the WH, anyone? btw, how long before Mugabe gets a state dinner? Probably will be ushered in the front door of the WH, unlike our allies.

And speaking of allies, have you heard this one:

“Now, contrary to U.S. human rights law, the covert counterterrorism and intelligence unit that many say already views itself as being above the law is about to go into business with the U.S. government.

The administration of President Barack Obama has begun negotiations with Indonesian military officials to establish a special training program for Kopassus troops, despite legislation known as the Leahy Law.”

Kopassus considers itself above the law? Sounds like a natural fit for Obama. Supposedly, he wants to enlist the Kopassus to fight Islamist terrorists, although it seems from their history that they would most likely be sympathetic to that cause.

    More about Kopassus:
    http://www.etan.org/news/2008/04brikop.htm

“The Komando Pasukan Khusus is Indonesia’s Special Forces Command. Formed in 1952 in the wake of Indonesian independence from the Dutch, Kopassus conducts special operations missions, including intelligence gathering, counter-terrorism, deep penetration and other specialized missions.

The unit is notorious for its severe human rights violations, especially in suppressing Indonesia’s independence movements, but also against civilians including trade unionists, students and human rights activists. In the cases outlined below and in the attached document, their perpetrators have consistently escaped accountability with light sentences, no punishment at all, or even promotion.

In West Papua, which remains largely closed to journalists and independent monitors, its forces have been implicated in human rights violations including kidnapping, rape, and violent sweeping operations to root out members of the ragtag Papuan independence movement (OPM) or those who express opposition to the central government.”

It appears these guys typically operate in areas that try to become independent of the mainly Islamic government of Indonesia. East Timor and West Papua are largely Christian. These are special forces to deal with rebellious folks.

    More about their atrocities:
    http://www.etan.org/news/2009/07kopassus.htm

A private army, within the Indonesian government, with funding and training equal to the military. Sound familiar? Who will be training whom?

Is this in some way related to the postponement of his trip to Indonesia? Curiouser and curiouser.

On a whim, I searched the Web for “Soetoro” and “Kopassus”. Lookee see what turned up:

    Kopassus: Obama’s “Reformed” Indonesian Killers

Soetoro involved in the bloody invasion of Papua and genocide perpetrated by jihadist troops?

  2. You know you’re on the wrong side when even the HUFFPO is in opposition:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/amy-goodman/obamas-bad-prescription-f_b_510803.html

fyi, Aceh is the part of Indonesia that purportedly is the “homeland” of Islam, being the first place it appeared. So, Muslims in Indonesia hardly want to see a secular independence movement there succeed.

This is ALL about Islam. Something that most news reports contort themselves into pretzels to avoid admitting. Do the research and you will see that it all comes back to Islamism. So which side would you EXPECT Obama to take. He has already said that he will always stand with the Muslims.

  3. Renee: Regarding that article at The Nation, maybe Obama wants to gather tips from Kopassus on how to put down secessionists. 🙂

  4. “The killings were, according to the officials with knowledge of the program, an attempt to disorient PA supporters and pressure the party to not discuss independence.”

To pressure them to not DISCUSS independence. How to pressure them to not DISCUSS restoration of OUR Republic? Just sayin’.

  5. And this is the world in which he spent his formative years. Nice.

  6. “The general also suggested that the training was good for the Americans too, since it enabled TNI and the US military to ‘learn lessons from each other . . . ‘”

I just love it when my suspicions are confirmed. 🙂

  7. More from The Nation:

“That being said, Kopassus does indeed have a special swagger and symbolic potency. During the recent Obama-TNI aid negotiations in anticipation of his trip, the Kopassus commanding general came to Washington and was welcomed by the Obama team. Back in Indonesia, also during the talks, a Kopassus man felt confident enough to attempt to board a commercial flight out of Aceh while carrying a pistol fitted with a silencer–a classic assassination weapon. This was of interest to the Indonesian official who described the incident, because one victim in Aceh had apparently been executed with a silenced pistol, at night (the victim’s roommate didn’t awaken).

An airport security man affiliated with the air force took the Kopassus man’s pistol away, but later, a Kopassus delegation arrived and made him give it back.”

Welcomed by the Obama team. What I said. Natural allies. Welcomed at the WH. Unlike Netanyahu.

Special swagger? Birds of a feather.

I do believe now that these articles about his plans to support, fund, train the Kopassus made it uncomfortable for him to go to Indonesia at the end of March. So the stories in the lamestream media are meant to soften up the target for him. Put out his excuses and pave the way for him to do what he plans to do, anyway, in Indonesia, in June. We’ll see.

On this issue, the obots OUGHT to side with us, because they all profess to be for human rights.

  8. Renee, sorry that I took it so off topic. I think he and Mugabe are birds of a feather, too.

  10. Obama plan assumes capitulation by all who might,
in the last hour, oppose him.

    One who might not:

    debka

Replying to reporters’ questions aboard Air Force One on their way back from Prague, Friday afternoon, April 9, Barak Obama’s National Security Adviser James Jones said the administration was discussing how to jump-start the Middle East peace process but “doesn’t have a new US plan to offer.” These are ongoing discussions, he said, adding “we don’t intend to surprise anybody at any time.”
But he did not deny the intention to impose a future plan.
The reporters’ questions were prompted by DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s exclusive disclosures this week on Obama’s “borders first” plan for an Israeli-Palestinian accord and by debkafile’s earlier report this Friday on the reasons for the Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s last-minute decision to cancel his attendance at the US-sponsored summit on nuclear terror, opening in Washington Monday, April 11.

The White House is furious over the withdrawal, coming as it did shortly after the US and Russian presidents signed a 30 percent warhead reduction treaty in Prague.
Intelligence-atomic energy minister Dan Meridor will represent the prime minister.
Relations have gone from bad to worse since the flare-up between US president Barack Obama and the Israeli prime minister at their White House meeting on March 23. They have since dropped another notch over a new falling-out between the two governments, focusing this time on the absence of security borders in the new US Middle East plan, our sources reported.
Washington took his withdrawal from the nuclear summit as a message that Netanyahu would no longer cooperate with the US on security matters so long as the Obama administration pursued a policy Israel regarded as detrimental to its security interests.
debkafile’s Jerusalem sources say the prime minister acted out of two motives:
    1. Israeli government circles were advised to read two reports leaked to US newspapers ( Washington Post: Obama weighs new peace plan for the Middle East and the New York Times: Should US design Mideast peace plan?) which appeared to herald the White House’s intention to impose a peace settlement on Israel.

Our sources in Washington and Jerusalem named National Security Adviser James Jones as the source of the leaks.
One senior source said the leaked reports were serious because “President Obama has his mind set on getting the borders of Israel and the future Palestinian state negotiated and settled in four months. This process leaves no room for any discussion on the security frontiers promised Israel for decades, yet the US president expects the Netanyahu government to accept Washington’s borders-cum-Palestinian state package without demur. His planners have shaped a Palestinian state within borders that make no provision for Israeli security. That is something the Netanyahu government will never accept.”
    2. At the end of their stormy conversation in the White House, Obama handed Netanyahu a list of 11 issues on which he asked Jerusalem to respond. The prime minister continues to withhold his replies having been convinced from close study of the issues/queries that they were clever formulations designed to trick him into endorsing the new American plan for the Middle East.
Without answers to Obama’s eleven puzzles, Netanyahu does not feel his trip to Washington is necessary, especially when the only promises he expects to be kept are those of Egyptian, Turkish and other Muslim rulers to slam Israel for its presumed atomic arsenal.
Equally unnecessary is the US Middle East envoy George Mitchell’s umpteenth shuttle between Jerusalem and Ramallah. His next trip scheduled for April 11 was also called off.

This episode alone illustrates the depth of discord and mistrust clouding relations between the two governments, originating on Israel’s side from disappointment over the Obama administration’s failure to make good on his high-sounding pledges of tangible steps to abort Iran’s nuclear arms program.

Friday, too, President Obama said he is working with allies to develop new sanctions on Iran, but can’t yet say what they are and whether they might be effective in dissuading Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons. In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopolous, Obama said: “Do we have a guarantee as to the sanctions we are able to institute at this stage are automatically going to change Iranian behavior? Of course we don’t.”
This was the first time the US president admitted that his Iran policy was at least just as likely to fail as to succeed.

  11. HUNGER

    June 25, 2009
ROME – High food insecurity persists in Zimbabwe in spite of improvements in agricultural production and a more liberal import policy this year, according to a report issued today by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

Good rainfall meant 2009 production of the staple crop, maize, is estimated to have more than doubled — to 1.14 million metric tonnes — an increase of 130 percent on the record low harvest of 2008, the report said. But the report also includes forecast production of winter-season wheat of only about 12,000 tonnes, the lowest ever, reflecting the high cost of fertilizers and quality seeds, farmers’ lack of financial liquidity and the uncertainty of the electricity supply for irrigation.

In March 2009, the Government of Zimbabwe abandoned the Zimbabwe dollar and announced the liberalization of most sectors of the economy. Adoption of the US dollar and South African rand as legal currencies has brought the annual rate of inflation down to zero from its 2008 high, calculated by the World Bank at 56 million percent.

Grain market reform includes free movement and buying and selling of grain in the country, removal of import duties and designation of the government Grain Marketing Board as a buyer of last resort to maintain a floor price for maize and protect domestic producers. This has filled the shops with products and reduced prices. Still, for most households without access to foreign currency, basic necessities remain out of reach.

“Liberalization of the grain market is the most important change in a decade for the improvement of agriculture sector in Zimbabwe,” said FAO Economist Kisan Gunjal, co-leader of the UN mission to Zimbabwe in early May that produced the report. “But the full impact of the reform on production next season remains to be seen, especially in light of financial liquidity constraints and other problems of economic transition.”

“This year’s improved harvest comes after two consecutive years of poor production,” said WFP’s Jan Delbaere, also a co-leader of the mission. “Having depleted their food stocks and sold livestock and other assets to cope with the effects of recent crises, many rural households are still struggling to survive.”

    The Dinner Roll

Once upon a time I was invited to the White House for a private dinner with the President.

I am a respected businessman, with a factory that produces memory chips for computers and portable electronics.

There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the administration, but I paid it no mind. I live in a FREE country. There’s nothing that the government can do to me if I’ve broken no laws. My wealth was EARNED honestly, and an invitation to dinner with an American President is an honor.

I checked my coat, was greeted by the Chief of Staff, and joined the President in a yellow dining room.

We sat across from each other at a table draped in white linen. The Great Seal was embossed on the china. Uniformed staff served our dinner.

The meal was served, and I was startled when my waiter suddenly reached out, plucked a dinner roll off my plate and began nibbling it as he walked back to the kitchen..
“Sorry ’bout that,” said the President. “Andrew is very hungry.”

    “I don’t appreciate…” I began, but as I
looked into the calm brown eyes across from me, I felt immediately guilty and petty. It was just a dinner roll. “Of course,” I concluded, and reached for my glass.

Before I could, however, another waiter reached
forward, took the glass away and swallowed the wine in a single gulp. “And his brother, Eric, is very thirsty,” said the President.

I didn’t say anything. The President is testing my compassion, I thought. I withheld my comments and decided to play along. I don’t want to seem unkind..

My plate was whisked away before I had tasted a bite. “Eric’s children are also quite hungry.”
With a lurch, I crashed to the floor. My chair had been pulled out from under me. I
stood, brushing myself off angrily, and watched as it was carried from the room.

And their grandmother can’t stand for long.”

I excused myself, smiling outwardly, but inside feeling like a fool. Obviously I had been invited to the White House to be sport for some game. I reached for my coat, to find that it had been taken.

I turned back to the President. “Their grandfather doesn’t like the cold.”

I wanted to shout, “that was my coat!” But again, I looked at the placid smiling face of my host and decided I was being a poor sport. I spread my hands helplessly and chuckled.

Then I felt my hip pocket and realized my wallet was gone. I excused myself and walked to a phone on an elegant side table.

I learned shortly that my credit cards had been
maxed out, my bank accounts emptied, my retirement and equity portfolios had vanished, and my wife had been thrown out of our home.

Apparently, the waiters and their families were moving in. The President hadn’t moved or spoken as I learned all this, but finally I lowered the phone into its cradle and turned to face him.
“Andrew’s whole family has made bad financial decisions. They haven’t planned for retirement and they need a house. They recently defaulted on a subprime mortgage. I told them they could have your home. They need it more than you do.”

My hands were shaking. I felt faint I stumbled back to the table and knelt on the floor.

The President cheerfully cut his meat, ate his steak, and drank his wine. I lowered my eyes and stared at the small grey circles on the tablecloth that were water drops.

“By the way,” he added, “I have just signed an Executive Order nationalizing your factories.

I’m firing you as head of your business. I’ll be operating the firm now for the benefit of all mankind.

There’s a whole bunch of Erics and Andrews out there and they can’t come to you for jobs groveling like beggars…we need to spread YOUR wealth around…”

I looked up. The President dropped his spoon into the empty ramekin which had been his crème Brule.

He drained the last drops of his wine. As the table was cleared, he lit a cigarette and leaned back in his chair.

He stared at me. I clung to the edge of the table as if it were a ledge and I were a man hanging over an abyss. I thought of
the years behind me, of the life I had lived. The life I had earned with a lifetime of work, risk and struggle.

Why was I punished? How had I allowed it to be taken? What game had I played and lost? I looked across the table and noticed with some surprise that there was no game board between us.

    What had I done wrong?

As if answering the unspoken thought, President Obama suddenly cocked his head, locked his empty eyes to mine, and bared a million teeth, chuckling wryly as he folded his hands.

“You should have stopped me at the dinner roll,” he said.

  13. متاسفم

    Yeah. We’re sorry, too.

  14. Miri, What does it mean ?

  15. It’s interesting that this post from April was picked up and discussed on a Farsi language web site recently, resulting in a surge of traffic and some comments coming from IP addresses in a variety of countries, including Iran. Other moderators chose not to post some of those comments, but “متاسفم” was one that came from Iran, and appears to mean “sorry” or “I’m sorry”.

  16. Red Pill,
We had a comment from someone who said only that, “Sorry.” I didn’t want to approve it lest it be from someone who we couldn’t later on “uninvite” from the blog.

This message came from someone named dayi38. I found a Farsi translator for that word, meaning “sorry”. I don’t know what else it means, other than that.

I tried to track “dayi38” but came up with only a Turkish social networking site.

dayi38, if you want to come back, please do; but you need to say more, although maybe you can’t.

If that’s so, then we really ARE sorry and we hope that relief will soon come to the brave people of Iran.

I think everything up until the “Cancel” comes from the normal stuff surrounding posts on that site, so the net of this post is that the author is just as disgusted with Mugabe as we are.

In a free market economy, I have nothing against people working hard, succeeding, and enjoying the fruits of their labor. But Mugabe is a thief, and we see what life is like for him, and what life is like for the people of Zimbabwe, after he “spread the wealth around”.

To the commenter from Iran, please know that we are praying for the people of Iran.

    • One of the comments under the post says:

عکسی از موگابه و عنتر آسیاییش..

      Which translates to:

A picture of Mugabe and baboon Syayysh ..

      and it hyperlinks to:

It appears that commenter feels the same way as we do about Mugabe and Ahmadinejad (and maybe even about Obama, too, but who knows?)

    • Another comment:

      Translates to:

Inflation more than one hundred thousand percent.

      Hrfhast much more than this:

Affiliated with 30 years ago (1980) Zimbabwe Dollar value than the U.S. dollar has had (ZWD 1 = USD 1.47), but now (ZWD 12,625,817,298 = USD 1)
S the most interesting to know that this reduced value of money in the last decade after 2000 (and effectively in a very severe 3-4 years) made so that the inflation rate 55.22% in 2000 with the exponential growth in more than 231 million percent in July 2008 (latest official announcement) is reached. In recent years, so almost double the price by 24 hours! (Source: Wikipedia and a few other sites)
I said that to know these (and of course I know you know) without a government program logic and how can a country’s economy within a short time to face the wind.

      You forgot something else: Hyperinflation.

It is usually caused by political or social upheaval, and we’ll have both if we elect “the one.”

“The Cato Institute’s Senior Fellow Steve Hanke released a document estimating Zimbabwe’s annualized inflation rate to be 10.2 Quadrillion percent as of October 24, 2008.[1]”

In other words 10,200,000,000,000,000 per cent per year.

  19. Master Mugabe will sell the countrys’ massive reserve (est. $1.7 Billion+) reserve of diamonds!!!! Why doesn’t he just sell that palatial mansion pictured above and knock out half the debt !

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Zimbabwe’s president said Tuesday his nation will sell its massive reserves of diamonds despite not receiving authorization from the world’s diamond control body.

A defiant President Robert Mugabe on Tuesday told lawmakers diamond sales have “huge potential” to revive the shattered economy. He said Zimbabwe can account for one-fourth of the world’s diamond supply.

The Kimberley Process diamond certification scheme has not authorized international sales amid allegations of killings, human rights violations and corruption in the massive diamond fields discovered in eastern Zimbabwe in 2006.

“No one should doubt our resolve to sell our diamonds,” Mugabe told lawmakers at the ceremonial opening of the Parliament in Harare.

Criticism by Western nations and human rights groups deadlocked a Kimberly Process meeting in Israel last month that sought approval for the sales after a regional monitor of the control body reported Zimbabwe had met minimum international diamond mining standards.

Mugabe said Zimbabwe’s Western adversaries wanted “absurd” conditions put in place to block the diamond sales.

“We have to remain rooted in the reality we are the sole guarantors of our economic emancipation,” he said.

Critics of Mugabe say his economic policies have contributed to precipitous economic decline in a decade of political turmoil that included the often violent seizures of thousands of white-owned farms that disrupted the agriculture-based economy.

Mugabe acknowledged Tuesday that key infrastructure — including power and water utilities, roads and transport services — had fallen into disrepair and housing programs had come to a standstill over the past decade.
