  1. Global warming nuts anyone?

    Just say no.

    • we have had a little over 11 inches of rain where i live in the last two weeks. the last time we had that it was winter and it froze, knocking out power for about a week to several hundreds of thousands of people.

    • Just read at WND Holdren previously warned of coming ice age.

  2. Anna Nicole Smith Investigated for Murder

MIAMI — The FBI investigated whether Anna Nicole Smith plotted to kill her tycoon husband’s son as they battled for his father’s fortune, newly released files show, but the former Playboy Playmate who died in 2007 was never prosecuted.

Smith’s FBI records, obtained exclusively by The Associated Press, say the agency investigated Smith in 2000 and 2001 in a murder-for-hire plot targeting E. Pierce Marshall, who was at the center of a long legal fight to keep the starlet, model and stripper from collecting his father’s oil wealth, valued in the hundreds of millions. The younger Marshall died three years ago of natural causes.

  3. Oh, Bertha, Bertha, Bertha, We are so past the racist accusations! How she relates back to the Bush administration for all their problems is truly amazing. Her speech is truly a lesson for all non-community organizers to understand how they are trained in deflecting, blaming, and distorting facts. Corruption and being caught in such a tangled web..blame Bush, of course.

ACORN’s Lewis suggests opponents are racist

“ACORN’s Bertha Lewis charged Tuesday that accusations about the embattled community organizing group are racist, alleging that a coordinated political effort started by former Bush adviser Karl Rove sought to stop the group from registering minority voters.”

“She also labeled as racist the infamous videos that show ACORN workers advising a man and young woman posing as pimp and prostitute how to circumvent the law.”

  4. Tossed in the Trash! A truly non-partisan voter registration group. All of us voters are thrilled these charges are being brought against this group. Democrats may have a much harder time winning the next election…unless they put their SEIU thugs and Panthers at the front doors.

Additionally, I heard O’Reilly suggesting that ACORN might possibly be responsible for Franken’s win in Minnesota. Something to watch. Who will pick up on this in Minnesota and investigate?

ATLAS EXCLUSIVE: ACORN Threw Out Republican Voter Registrations …An Atlas exclusive with a former ACORN employee.

In February of 2008, Fathiyyah Muhammad of Jacksonville, Florida, heard that ACORN was paying three dollars for each vote you could register. Fatiyyah claims she registered voters for Acorn there (at three dollars each), but that the group threw out her votes and fired her when she brought them GOP registrations.

This is another nail in the coffin of the community organizers and their stealth agenda.

  5. ACORN and SEIU Have Been Going Steady a Long Time: Did They Break Up?

Now that ACORN is drowning is an ocean of adverse publicity, its longtime ally the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) claims to have broken with the embattled radical left-wing activist group.

Last week SEIU international secretary-treasurer Anna Burger dropped this political bombshell that has been ignored by the mainstream media.

In response to a question from Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) posed during a meeting of the House Financial Services Committee, Burger casually noted that her union “cut all ties to ACORN.”

In an interview Monday night I asked SEIU spokeswoman Michelle Ringuette what Burger meant when she said SEIU had cut all ties with ACORN.

Ringuette replied, “We have suspended all contracts and active work with ACORN,” pending the results of a panel of inquiry looking into ACORN. SEIU boss Andy Stern sits on that supposedly independent panel.

SEIU Divorces ACORN? Snips – A must read

I will get that information for you for the record,” she said. [Anna Burger] Called the “queen of labor” by some, Burger is an officer of George Soros’s Democracy Alliance, a left-wing billionaire donors’ collaborative that has steered funds to ACORN. She also chairs the powerful labor federation known as Change to Win.

Yesterday, Burger did supply the requested information to McHenry. Her letter (available here) states that in 2008 SEIU paid $190,000 to ACORN for “Contributions (including General Support and ACORN Projects like Voter Registration).” The figure for 2009 was $25,000.

The letter states that SEIU paid ACORN $1.4 million in 2008 for “Contracted Services (including services such as the Organizing Apprenticeship Program and Childcare Worker Organizing Campaigns).” The figure for 2009 was $220,000.

    The Louisiana subpoena states:

Current high ranking members of ACORN have publicly acknowledged that embezzlement did in fact occur, but the exact amount of the embezzlement was unknown until it was recently acknowledged in a board of directors meeting on October 17, 2008 by Bertha Lewis and Liz Wolf that an internal review had determined that the amount embezzled was $5,000,000.00 (FIVE MILLION), and it is still unclear if some of the monies embezzled are from state, federal or private funds.

The Rathke family repaid about one-quarter of the stolen money and Drummond Pike, founder of the left-wing Tides Foundation, covered the rest out of his own pocket when the embezzlement came to light last year. Like SEIU’s Burger, Pike is an officer of the Democracy Alliance.

Blogger Note: Anna Burger is Andy Sterns’s ex-wife. The have been close since they helped form SEIU 668 PA Social Services Union in 1974 or there abouts. Later they went to the big time at SEIU HQ in Wash. DC at the invitation John Sweeney, no less, and worked on recruiting new members and unaffiliated Unions to the SEIU flag.

  6. Anita Names Connections and their Backgrounds

Part II of a Leftist Love Story: ACORN’s Seemingly Scandal Proof Friends

October 2, 2009 by Anita MonCrief

Unfortunately for America, the media has been filtering news for years and this practice has allowed some of the main figures in the Teamstergate scandal to assume top spots in the Democrat party. Part 1 of this series reviewed the history of the scandal and its strong ties to ACORN and President Obama. In order to help readers fully appreciate the connections, I discuss below some of the major players in the Teamstergate saga who were named in indictments and a Congressional report on in a scheme that reached all the way into the White House.

The Congressional report, on Teamstergate, reached a number of damning conclusions that implicated organizations like Project Vote and Citizen Action. It also raised a number of questions about campaign finance and “soft money” donations. Something that ACORN seemed concerned with as detailed in a spring blog post here.

“William McNary, co-director of Citizen Action/Illinois, a coalition of labor, community and citizen groups, says, ‘Barack was not just willing to meet with community-based groups, not only to be a good vote for us, but he also strategized with us to help move our position forward.’

Gerald Kellman, who first recruited Obama, taught him the basics, and he also learned from organizing trainers associated with the Gamaliel Foundation and the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). Both organize community groups, primarily religious congregations, and trace their lineage to Saul Alinsky.” “Gregory Galluzzo, a Gamaliel founder, was one of Obama’s teachers.”

    Obama, ACORN, and the churches
Presidential candidate Barack Obama has extensive experience in community organizing. In the 1980s, Obama was lead organizer for a campaign funded by the Catholic Church in Chicago that was formed on the principles of radical Saul Alinsky.

    Obama and Mentor Gregory Galluzzo
    5/29/08 | Stephanie Block

Gregory Galluzzo – a former Jesuit priest
Using donations for the poor to help power-seeking politicians attain their ends is pure Alinskyianism. One of Obama’s Chicago mentors, Gregory Galluzzo – a former Jesuit priest, now married and Executive Director of the Gamaliel community organizing network – was interviewed by a writer to whom he showed the training manual he uses with new organizers.

  7. The Obamanation plans to force unions down the throat of the airline industry, too. The current rule is that over 50 percent of employees have to vote to unionize. But Obama’s administration wants to change the rule to be over 50 percent of those who vote. So, if only 1 percent of the employees vote (maybe the others will be afraid to vote?), then one half of one percent of employees (plus one person) can decide for the other 99.5 % (minus one person).

The worst part of this scheme is that the way the rules are set up, once the union is in, it’s in. The vote cannot be rescinded. The union can’t be ousted.

They plan to pull this scheme, aided by “card check”, throughout the country. End result: forced union dues, which will then be handed over to the Democrat socialists, which will help to ensure that they remain in power forever.

Another story on the union front: At least one big stimulus project requires that all contractors use union workers. As with the rules for “minority” participation, they will use our money to reward special interests who just happen to vote for them.

    Isn’t that special?

  8. ACORN update: They’re going to start getting OUR money again on Nov. 1:

    God bless Michele Bachmann.

    • What an outrage! Who would have thought that the funding only stopped for ACORN until October 31st! Will Congress answer to this? I wonder which government entity will be funding them?

Will Homeland Security reverse their decision and get the money back and into the right hands of Louisiana?
The head of Homeland Security did another ooops or was it intentional? Such glaring incompetence.

  9. Safe Schools Czar- On Fox news now. What a joke ! Like a piece of used toilet paper given as a gift ! Hahahahaha ! Have you seen his picture? A creepy looking piece of trash. The next nut to fall out of this nasty tree…. He is disgusting. Like rotting meat…He has no business around our innocent kids or involved in education. A creepy looking thing. We have a name for things like this, but I am sure you all get it. Slime…..

  10. Charging $40 for job applicants Smosska’s ACORN Smoke Screen
    October 12, 2009 Snips

“Back in July I reported on a corporation that swept into Florence, South Carolina promising all sorts of new jobs with wonderful new benefits. Naturally none of these jobs have materialized. Looking into this Smosska, Corp. proves that the company is a sham group formed to serve the needs of the criminal ACORN organization.

Of course, this didn’t stop this sham group from charging $40 to each person that thought they were applying for a job with Smosska. This fee was supposedly for an “aptitude test” that the applicants took in order to qualify for these non-existent jobs.

The links between Smosska and the troubled community group weren’t openly admitted, to be sure. The Florence Better Business Bureau looked into the company after questions were raised about its odd characteristics. The BBB found that Smosska is being backed by a group called Organizers for America, which itself is a subsidiary of the National Organizers Alliance, which itself is affiliated with ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, the nationally troubled group associated with massive voter fraud, financial irregularities. Of course, all were heavy Obama campaign backers. ”

  11. When Nuts Collide: ACORN Power Struggle in New Orleans
    October 13

Since it’s hard to fire an unpaid volunteer, the Big Wigs from HQ showed up on Tuesday and sacked Beth Butler, longtime executive director of Louisiana ACORN.

Butler, who has worked for ACORN for 37 years, said her real sin in the eyes of the national organization’s leaders was a failure to concede (sic) to their demands. In particular, she said, she had led resistance to a demand to turn over the land trust, called the ACORN Community Land Association of Louisiana, to the national group.

“We were told by national ACORN that we had to give it up to them, ” she said. “We got e-mails threatening our jobs because we didn’t push the land trust people to hand over property and money to the New York people who took over ACORN.”

Butler passed along an e-mail message from Lewis calling Butler’s behavior regarding the land trust “unacceptable.”

The national entity is also making a play for roughly $90,000 in hurricane relief money controlled by the local group, Butler said

The last scandal resulted in the ouster of Wade Rathke, who also happens to be the longtime companion of Butler. The two have lived together for decades and raised two children together, Butler said.

The moral? Never trust a Community Organizer.

  12. Some insight into Anita!

    “Anita Dunn’s Psychiatric Profile SNIPS

The Communications Director of the White House has a few problems with communicating. Most obvious, to even an amateur, is that she has a medical condition, called Tardive Dyskinesia, (Features of the disorder may include grimacing, tongue protrusion, lip smacking, puckering and pursing of the lips) which results from using anti-psychotic drugs, like Thorazine, Resperidol, etc over a period of time. This is a dead give away that she has mental problems. Now, while that should never preclude a person from a meaningful life, the White House, in selecting her as its Communications Director, has shown the World again, just how amateur they are.

According to researchers of Li Zhisui’s (Mao’s personal physician) The Private Life of Chairman Mao Mao was a “narcissist with a borderline personality,” and was, as well, a homosexual, as well as a rapist, who had his people bring in peasant girls. In fact, according to Philip Short’s Mao: A Life, ” it was the girl dancers in the conservative Red Guard troupe who frequented Mao’s bed that successfully “persuaded the Chairman” in supporting their cause. Because of their inducement, the Cultural Revolution took an unexpected turn as the conservative Red Guards regained power and prolonged the struggle

My take on this whole fiasco is that Ms. Dunn has been “thrown under the bus” as another distraction, ”

  13. Bob Bauer has been Obama’s personal attorney who has worked on so many of the eligibility cases.
More of the tangled web. (See Anita Dunn in the above article.)

    by John Charlton

(Oct. 17, 2009) — In a stunning blow to the impartiality of the American Judicial system, Federal Judge David O. Carter, who is hearing the case Barnett vs. Obama, in the Central District, Southern Division Court at Santa Ana, California, has just hired a lawyer who works for a law firm where Robert F. Bauer, one of Obama’s top lawyers is a partner. And that, just days before the Oct. 5, 2009 hearing on the Motion to Dismiss, in which his demeanor radically changed, according to Dr. Orly Taitz, esq., lead counsel for the Plaintiffs.

Siddharth Velamoor is the lawyer chosen by Carter to serve as one of his two official clerks, from Oct. 1, 2009, till Sept. 30, 2010, according to Wikipedia. Velamoor is listed as an associate with Perkins Coie, LLP’s office in Seattle, Washington. It is not clear if he has broken his relations with the firm. Perkins Coie, LLP did represent Obama in a previous case litigated by Dr. Orly Taitz last winter.

Mr. Bauer’s wife is none other than Anita Dunn, the Whitehouse Communication’s Director.

  14. Hot off the press… well on the news.. And the Secret that Beck alluded to yesterday when he got the anonymous phone call telling him…Ooopppps a leak WH! I think we’ve got a new Deep Throat! Anybody see a conflict of interest or perhaps a huge payoff, monetarily or otherwise for Bauer. Or is it blackmail..after all, Bauer has been handling all of the nasty “birther” lawsuits for Obama. Why would we think anything about this after one of his people from his frim was just made a aide to the Judge in CA. Our new throaty person needs a name or several of them need names..any suggestions?

Bob Bauer, Lawyer to Obama and Democratic Party, Eyed as New White House Counsel

Robert (Bob) Bauer, the top lawyer for the Democratic National Committee and personal lawyer to President Obama and his chief campaign counsel, is emerging as the top candidate to replace Greg Craig as White House Counsel, Fox News has learned.

  15. Democrats Vote To Give ACORN Regulatory Authority Over Financial Institutions
    Fri. October 23, 2009 SNIPS

WASHINGTON – During consideration of H.R. 3126, legislation to establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA), Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee voted to pass an amendment offered by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) that will make ACORN eligible to play a role in setting regulations for financial institutions.

By making representatives of ACORN and other consumer activist organizations eligible to serve on the Oversight Board, the amendment creates a potentially enormous government sanctioned conflict of interest. ACORN-type organizations will have an advisory role on regulating the very financial institutions from which they receive millions of dollars annually in direct corporate contributions and benefit from other financial partnerships and arrangements.

A recent inquiry into bank funding of ACORN activities by three House Committees found that institutions that would be regulated by the CFPA have provided millions of dollars to the organization in the form of direct donations, lines of credit, cash, and other assets over the last 15 years.

Maxine Waters Amendment: ACORN Regulatory Authority Over Financial Institutions

Isn’t that a lot like Al Capone writing the tax code and what constitutes a violation?

During the debate of H.R. 3126 which is the bill creating a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, an Obama brainchild, the brilliant Maxine Waters offered an amendment that would add 5 members to an oversight board…..

Michael Savage said it best, “Liberalism is a mental disorder.” Maxine Waters is mentally deranged, either that or she is so beholden to ACORN that the potential blow back from this in no way compares to the support she receives from ACORN and groups like ACORN.

In case you wondered, the amendment passed 35 -33. When Barack Obama proposed the creation of a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, the thought of fraud and corruption never entered your mind, did it?

  16. Ali, you can say that again!

If Michele Bachmann’s correct, ACORN will start being funded again on Nov. 1.

Do you remember how Anita Dunn praised Mao’s plan to basically, “take over China” (which of course he did)? Didn’t that remind you of Maxine’s very similar comment during that hearing where she started to say she’d like to socialize companies, but then she backed off and changed it to “basically, take over your companies?” I might be paraphrasing but the similarity in those two comments struck me.

Birds of a feather, for sure.

Anybody want to clue us in as to what exactly it means if Anita’s husband becomes chief White House counsel? (Other than a payback, that is. That much is obvious.)

  17. Miri
    Maybe they are expecting litagation????
    Donofrio maybe?
The relationship between him and the Pres changes. BHO may want to invoke more executive privilege or attorney/client privilege.
Looks like he may be circling the wagons!!

There was a question of whether or not the DOJ has a conflict of interest in representing BHO in Orly.

    • Could be. Maybe the previous guy agrees with the view that DOJ shouldn’t represent Obama. Or it might be that the previous guy (forgot his name) is yet another Mao sympathizer. Isn’t he? I thought I saw that on Beck.

Thank God for Glenn Beck. I remember somebody at TD’s predicting last year that a Mormon will save the country. That came out of left field. Beck wasn’t even on FOX at the time, as I recall. I hope that “Nostradamus” is correct.

About the media, I do think that little chihuahua Beck uses as the media “watchdog” (actually a lapdog) MIGHT be getting to them. Most of the last-legs media folks ARE egotistical elitists. My guess is they don’t like being called out for what they truly ARE, which is lapdogs, drooling on Obama’s creepy shoes.

  18. I wish Leo were blogging so he could tell us what it means if Bauer becomes the WH legal counsel…I don’t know which one is higher in position, the AG or WH legal counsel. I think you are right about circling the wagons! Both know all the secrets about BO too, so if one can’t put the kabash on lawsuits, maybe the other can…or they can ignore them, just like the AG has regarding Orly’s request for him to recuse himself and appoint an independent attorney. As we can see it is all being set-up for a win on their side and a loss on ours. There are so many conflicts of interest, they don’t worry.

Isn’t that ACORN legislation infuriating!!! I swear the corruption we are seeing is so totally unbelievable.. my jaw drops every time I read another article. So much for all the checks and balances that are supposed to keep us safe from this.

Who is the other attorney that blogs..Apuzzo. He might answer the question, or maybe Orly has.

Dang, I wish I were an attorney, .a rich one, semi retired, so I could slam them with everything I had and would have the time and resources to do it.

Here’s hoping Glenn calls them out.

  19. Did you note that the ACORN story was another one to hit on Friday afternoon..when the news dies! They ought to have a newscaster assigned to watch just what happens on Fridays.

    • AOne, Clean pc. All ok for me here so far.

    • AOne,
I edited your 10:34pm comment in an attempt to figure what was going wrong. I think it may have something to do with formatting characters in the text that look like “whitespace” but really aren’t spaces. I’m not 100% sure. If you get funkyness again, try cutting and pasting your text into something like Notepad, then cuttting the text out of Notepad and pasting here (that should leave you with just “regular”, unformatted text).

Yet I do believe that “opposition” blogs are under attack. There are too many going silent. Just as with the assault on FOX, are they also targeting blogs?

    ACORN’s Campaign to DeFox America
    By Matthew Vadum on 10.29.09

Unwilling to admit it’s an ongoing criminal conspiracy to defraud the people of the United States of America, ACORN has retained Bolshevik Brave New Films to do some of its dirty work for it.

The leftist propaganda factory headquartered in Culver City, Calif., has launched a new website,, which is an effort to shoot the messenger. Fox is the only television network that has taken much of an interest in covering the ACORN scandal which some commentators say is bigger than Watergate. Needless to say the network has pissed off the far left mightily, especially George Soros’ minions at Media Matters for America.

ACORN crime family boss Bertha Lewis is trying to make a buck off the effort. She sent out a fund raising email accusing Fox of being “extremists.” That’s pretty rich even for a leftist thug and serial liar.

  29. What took them so long? The AG ” bought a misleading version of events”, so he raided their offices. Mmm, mmm, mmm, gotta love that change, huh Bertha!

State investigators taking dozens of computers from ACORN office on Canal Street
    November 06 Snips

Attorney General Buddy Caldwell has served a search warrant at the ACORN office at 2609 Canal Street, [New Orleans, LA]…

Early last month, Caldwell’s office issued subpoenas for records from ACORN’s New Orleans office, where the organization — now moving its national headquarters to Washington — has long been based.

Today’s search is an outgrowth of those subpoenas, which stemmed from an investigation by Caldwell’s office into the embezzlement of ACORN funds by Dale Rathke, a brother of the organization’s founder, Wade Rathke, Herring said.

In a statement, ACORN’s attorney, Pamela Marple said the group was told the raid was ordered because of reports that workers loyal to Beth Butler, the recently fired head of ACORN’s Louisiana branch, had been taking computer data and other items out of the office.

An ACORN official also said Caldwell’s investigators will copy the hard drives from ACORN’s computers and return them next week. The computers contain all payroll information for the national organization, the official said.

But in the subpoenas, the state attorney general’s office suggested that the embezzlement may have been on the order of $5 million, and that ACORN’s current CEO, Bertha Lewis, acknowledged as much at an Oct. 17, 2008 board meeting, soon after she assumed the position.

But Lewis, reacting to the subpoenas, said that Caldwell apparently bought a misleading version of events that she said was being peddled by two dissident former board members for ACORN.

  30. ACORN Sues Over ‘Unconstitutional’ Funding Cuts By Congress Snips

Representatives for ACORN sued the federal government Thursday morning in an attempt to regain the millions of dollars in funding the community organizing group lost after filmmakers videotaped its workers offering advice on how to commit tax fraud and various other felonies.

The suit charges Congress with violating the Constitution when it passed legislation in September that specifically targeted ACORN to lose federal housing, education and transportation funds.

That qualifies the legislation as bills of attainder, according to the Center for Constitutional Rights, which filed the suit on behalf of ACORN. A bill of attainder punishes a person or group without the benefit of a trial, and is illegal under Article 1 of the Constitution.

Thursday’s lawsuit claims that Congress violated the right to due process enshrined in the Fifth Amendment — declaring the group guilty of a crime and punishing its members without completing an investigation within the Department of Justice or the IRS.

“It’s not the job of Congress to be the judge, jury, and executioner,” said Jules Lobel, an attorney representing the Center for Constitutional Rights.

“We have due process in this country, and our Constitution forbids lawmakers from singling out a person or group for punishment without a fair investigation and trial.”

The lawsuit itself singles out three defendants — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner; Director of the Office of Management and the Budget Peter Orszag, and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.

The three were responsible for facilitating the defunding of ACORN by Congress, according to attorneys for the Center for Constitutional Rights.

ACORN claims it has been badly hurt by the congressional actions, and has had to fire workers and close some of its 1,200 branches around the country.

Though it remains unclear precisely how much money the national organization was receiving from federal sources and aid programs, a lawyer pressing the suit said ACORN has already lost an amount “in the millions” since the freeze took effect.

  31. Local GOP Questions State Atty. General’s Link To ACORN

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Republicans are raising questions about the link between ACORN and California Attorney General Jerry Brown
    Nov. 11

Local Republican leaders, including county GOP Chair Tony Krvaric, visited ACORN’s National City offices and questioned the current investigation into the community advocacy group and whether or not the investigation is being mishandled.

GOP leaders said they are concerned about an audiotape recorded during an East County Democratic Club meeting last month where local ACORN chief organizer David Lagstein spoke about Brown’s investigation into ACORN

..10News spoke to the ACORN chief organizer Wednesday.
“The Republican Party is trying to create a new scandal out of nothing. I asserted ‘my belief’ that the investigation will find fault with the videographers and not with ACORN because no one at California ACORN broke the law and the videographers did,” Lagstein said in a statement.

    • Hannity announced on his radio show today that there will be another video coming out next week !!! Can’t wait!

    • A new tape surfaces, casting doubt into the investigation of ACORN

On the tape, Mr. Lagstein asserts that he has been in contact with the Attorney General’s office and suggests that they have been assured that “the fault will be found with the people that did the video – not ACORN.” Lagstein is also heard claiming that a serious investigation is “completely not what’s happening.” In words and in tone, Lagstein appears to suggest that Attorney General Jerry Brown [D – CA] would turn a blind eye to ACORN’s alleged misdeeds and focus instead on the actions of the individuals who uncovered those misdeeds, according to Krvaric.

These two clips suggest the investigation of ACORN announced by California Attorney General Jerry Brown already has a pre-determined outcome.

  32. California Labor Wars
A rival union charges Andy Stern’s SEIU with election fraud.
    Oakland, Calif. Nov. 11 Snips

For the past 10 months, the SEIU has fought to hold on to 150,000 members in its Union of Healthcare Workers affiliate, or UHW. The challenge comes from a group of former UHW leaders and Stern confidantes.

Speaking in an interview over a sandwich at a hotel in the Bay Area late last month, Mr. Martinez says he was instructed by superiors to tell the workers that if they voted against the SEIU, they could lose their medical benefits, see their green cards or citizenship revoked and possibly be deported. He says he and other staffers were also told to pressure voters to spoil ballots that had been filled out for the NUHW. In other instances he filled ballots out for them. He says he even took some to the post office, as did other SEIU campaign workers.

All of these actions, if true, are a violation of state or federal laws governing union elections. In all, he adds, he visited 550 homes. “We scared people. We took the secret ballot away from these people,” he says. “It was wrong.”

  33. Keep closing those offices Bertha! May they all be closed by the 2010 elections!

GOP claims ACORN in financial trouble

An internal memo from the Republican staff of the House Oversight and Government Reform committee claims that ACORN has serious financial problems and may be “ready to file for bankruptcy.”

But ACORN officials are dismissing the memo as a partisan slap, asserting that the housing and community organizing group remains fully operational.

Brian Kettenring, the Deputy Director of National Operations for ACORN, says the bankruptcy claims by Rep. Darrell Issa, the top Republican on the committee, are inaccurate.

Issa’s staff alleges that the three main offices of ACORN are engaged in a “civil war” and CEO Bertha Lewis has taken custody of hundreds of bank accounts with funds totaling roughly $20 million, in order to consolidate assets. ACORN is shutting down local offices nationwide and the national apparatus has informed satellite offices that they will no longer receive money from the headquarters, the memo claims. ACORN would not comment on these allegations, and Kettenring declined to discuss the prospect of bankruptcy

  34. ACORN Goes for Broke
    By Matthew Vadum on 11.16.09 @ 6:08AM

As its financial resources dwindle, radical advocacy group and organized crime syndicate ACORN may have to file for bankruptcy protection before Christmas, ACORN insiders say.

As of Nov. 11, ACORN and its affiliates owed at least $2,328,596 in long overdue back taxes to all levels of government. Many of the tax liens, which are only issued by creditor tax agencies after a tax debt has become seriously delinquent, do not appear in the Nexis database, so the actual total may be much higher. ACORN has been negotiating with tax collectors to have interest on its tax debts waived and to have some of the debts partially forgiven.

Out of desperation the group filed a lawsuit last week against the federal government making the argument that in effect it has a constitutional right to receive public funds. The action was filed by *********the allegedly terrorist-funded Center for Constitutional Rights, whose Che Guevara-loving president, Michael Ratner,****** has a vested interest in the success of ACORN.

This is the same dubious argument Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), a longtime ally of ACORN who funds and has been endorsed by the group’s partisan arm, the Working Families Party of New York, has made based on the Constitution’s ban on bills of attainder.

Nadler heads a congressional subcommittee that may be investigating ACORN in the not-too-distant future and has been providing advice to ACORN’s lawyer. Ilan Kayatsky, Nadler’s communications director, refuses to return my calls to comment on the apparent conflict of interest.

Must look into Center for Constitutional Rights…anyone with information?

  35. Does ACORN trail lead to White House? Snips

Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) thinks it is curious that Dunn abruptly resigned from her White House post, just four days after Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell raided ACORN’s national office, seizing paper records and computer hard drives.

He says Dunn’s husband, Robert Bauer, has been a staunch defender of ACORN.

King believes Bauer’s letter was a contributing factor in convincing the Justice Department not to investigate ACORN. But he says with the Louisiana attorney general’s action, the administration appears to be in damage-control mode.

“Are they trying to cover up a trail? Are they severing ties? Is the investigation [of ACORN] in Louisiana…going to lead all the way up through Robert Bauer and perhaps his wife in the White House?” King wonders. “Because I believe the ACORN ties do go right to the White House in multiple ways.”

King believes that as the newly named White House counsel, Bauer will be in a position to help President Obama erase his ties to ACORN.

  36. I wonder whether by pulling Bauer into the WH, Obama has given him cover. Meaning, can they avoid Congressional or other subpoenas based upon attorney/client privilege or executive immunity? I had thought this was Bauer’s reward for his “achievements” in getting eligibility cases dismissed, but maybe the ACORN angle is the real (or even just another) reason why he’s not in the WH.

  37. The reason we can’t figure out all of the angles to this novel that is being written is because we aren’t liars, thieves, thugs, or con men. We aren’t used to thinking like criminals, therefore what they are doing makes no sense to us normal, rational, logical, and law-abiding citizens.

Is there an attorney on the blog to answer Miri’s query and who can tell us about executive immunity or client/attorney privilege as it pertains to this situation with Bauer going to the WH?
